Satanists denied opening prayer for the third time in Boston.

Satanic Temple Sues Boston Over Opening Prayer Policy

I'd rather see no prayer in government institutions, but am not against traditional practices.

I do side with the Satanists that it is religious discrimination solely on the basis they are not aligned with Abrahamic doctrines.

Otherwise I think the policy should end.

Should they be allowed opening prayer?

I think so.

I don't know. I'd say no because it's tradition and it doesn't harm anyone nor discriminates against anyone. Ideally other countries don't change their core traditions because a minority sees otherwise. I don't agree with America being open as so far we loose all of our traditions. I can see why it's taken as a discriminations but I'd assume they'd do the same for Muslim prayers as well.

Also, I'm sure the government has to go by population as well... if majority of people are christian or have a god-related belief, it would be off to tell thousands of people that they have to acknowledge another religious source(s) because they are excluded. That's like the argument of children in school "forced" to say the Pledge with the word god. Keep the word god and just keep silent until that part is over. That's how I did when I was younger. Even when I was at Toastmasters, I didn't mention god in the Pledge but we said it every meeting. Some things just can't "just give."

In the article, it doesn't look like they willingfully told satanist they can't have open prayer as ministers do. They just said no. I don't believe in taking religion out of the government, I just don't care for it used to enforce others to "follow the rules."

So "tradition" makes preferential treatment and discrimination okay, even bypassing the establishment clause of The 1st Amendment of The U.S. Constitution? Nah, that's ignorant, kid.

Weren't you the one praising religious liberty in that other thread like a minute ago?

What happened? Did you change your mind?

Not at all. You know the expression, "When in Rome, do as the Romans do" does not mean do the opposite of the Romans in Rome.

America's Christian culture is under assault. A main avenue of attack is what I call THE PERVERSION OF EQUALITY. Satanism is as opposed to Christian principles as you can get. The very EXACT opposite of liberty is embracing Satanism. Name one society based on the principles of Satanism in all of human history.

know the truth, and the truth will set free you.
John 8:32

You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
John 8:44

For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
2 Corinthians 3:17

Isn't bearing false witness a sin? Tell us how the tenets of the ToS (the group behind the lawnsuits) conflict with freedom.
Also, scriptural quotes are nothing but meaningless spam to those who don't consider the bible to be a legitimate, valid authority.

Reminds me of the time I did the prayer before bed in boot camp, and they did not like my Satanic inspired prayer (other recruits that is, the drill instructors were professional about it).

Well, good. Then I trust you're for the religious liberty of Satanists.

I mean, you wouldn't be hypocritically using the term "religious freedom" to mean "religious persecution for everything other than Christianity," would you?
When it comes to conservative christians, "freedom" only extends to things they agree with, making their usage of the term arbitrary and meaningless.

Many of them aren't even interested in religious freedom for other Christians. Just look at how many of them are eager to ban the same-sex marriages that other Christian denominations uphold as sacraments.

Well, I can't. Satanism has only been around since the 60s, and it's impact on the world is tiny.

I also can't name any holy wars satanists have started in the name of their religion, nor genocides that they enacted on people. Satanists didn't conquer large swaths of land, rip it from the hands of the native populations, and set up re-education boarding schools like the christians did to brain wash people into giving up their old indigenous beliefs or ways of life.

Tribes confront painful legacy of Indian boarding schools

American Indian boarding schools - Wikipedia

Did you know that the last boarding school where things like this happened only closed in the 1970s in my home state? They would beat kids when they spoke in their native Lashootseed languages or talk about the Raven and the Sun. The last person to speak the Twana varient of the Lashootseed language fluently died in the 80s. Now only fragments of that language remain; same with many of their traditions or languages from neighboring tribes in the area.

What have satanists done that's worse than to eliminate the identity of entire peoples, let alone their lives?

Unlike Christianity, Satanism is ethical enough not to impose itself on non-adherents.
