Everything but politics

Don't tell anyone, but tis actually the opposite.
If never drunk, then one never sobers up.

I have proof!
I bang on the door but you won't let me in,
'Cause you're sick and tired of me reeking of gin.
Locked all the doors from the front to the back,
And left me a note telling me I should pack.
I walk in the bar and the fella's all cheer,
They order me up a whiskey and beer.
You ask me why I'm writing this poem,
Some call it a tavern but I call it home.

{censored}

You've given me an option, you say I must choose,
Tween you and the liquor, then I'll take the booze!
Jumping on Western down to the south side,
Where I'll sit down and exercise my Scottish pride.
Please excuse any errors.
That is from memory.

The wonder and awe of "all things".
Following the current trends, I though it would be fun to create a thread where each one can say whatever comes to mind (respecting RF rules, of course). You can chose anything except politics.
Let's get creative.

I'll start:
Today I went for a run and it was -2 °C(28° Fahrenheit). I was literally freezing my behind, but I did it anyway because I've been eating too many carbs and I felt guilty. I was wearing a beanie, gloves and warm clothing, and there were people out there running in shorts and t-shirts. How did they manage not to freeze to death is beyond me. In the end I wanted to stop by a coffee shop and relax with a warm beverage, but most of them are closed and all you can get is take-away. I'm not paying 4 bucks for a coffee if I can't have a warm chair and background music so I went home, where I ate a bag of peanuts just because. Now I'll have to go for another run because I had, again, a bunch of extra calories I didn't need.
I've been watching Netflix the entire afternoon so my plans are not going very well today.
I miss the times when I used to have a lot of discipline
That reminds me. I used to walk with a mp3 player, way back, so I could listen to a downloaded podcast while I walked. Now a days one could do something a lot like that with a smartphone. Maybe I should try that out!

Okay, you said "everything but politics." ;) I have a tenant that owes me $9832. He was far behind on his rent long before Covid-19, but now it is even worse, as the debt has mounted precipitously since the eviction moratorium went into place on March 1, 2020. Through the Landlord Assn I belong to I found out about a program through the Cares Act that will pay for part of the rent debt, up to $7200. I told him I could live with the remainder of the debt for a while, which I consider reasonable.

I sent my tenant an e-mail about that last night telling him to contact me for the contact number of the program coordinator for rental assistance, but so far I have not heard back from him. Usually my tenant answers my e-mails but I have not heard from him since the end of October.

The rental house is over two hours away from here so I cannot drive over there, but I know he is still there because a former tenant went to check on the house a few days ago and there were two cars in the driveway.

This eviction moratorium is utterly ridiculous. How are landlords supposed to pay their mortgages and expenses? Now the governor has extended the moratorium through the end of March 2021. and there is also a bill in congress that would forgive all the accumulated debt. If it passes that would mean that any rent debt incurred since March 2020 would be wiped clean and the tenant would not have to pay any of it back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I sure hope that bill does not pass, but if I could get that $7200 before it passes it would not affect me much although it would affect many other landlords. My issue is that it just is not fair to consider only tenants and not landlords... It is terribly UNJUST.

I am very taken with these two kids. (Kids to me, anyway.) They make me feel optimistic for the future of humanity when I see them in interviews. Especially, seeing real artists being happy and doing well. I have known many artists in my life (visual mostly, and some performing), and have witnesses how incredibly difficult it is to be an artist of any kind in a culture that is so absolutely money-obsessed. I wish these two the best, and I thank them for helping lift my spirits in these dark days.

I attempted to complete a 300 piece 3D puzzle my friend got for me for Christmas.
I ended up getting drunk instead. But I got a good portion complete.

Yes...it is understandable, since breakfast is more important than lunch in those countries.
And the climate, also.
I think the climate principally. In the days before central heating a big breakfast was what you needed to get going in the morning in winter. And then, indeed, lunch is a briefer affair. The Dutch take that to extremes: boterhammen -sandwiches - is what they expect to eat.

I just looked up the federal moratorium and it only goes to the end of January, but your governor extended that to the end of March. I haven't heard about, and was unable to find on-line about forgiving accumulated debt. Are you sure about that?

Yes, our governor extended it through the end of March, and he most likely will extend it again. Apparently he thinks that it is okay for people to live rent free just because they lost their jobs, which is his fault, because he shut everything down because of Covid-19. But the grocery stores and some other businesses are hiring and they are desperate for workers, so those people could get a job if they wanted to work.

The bill that would forgive accumulated debt has not passed yet. I do not know all the details but I think you can read about it on the WLA website, https://www.walandlord.org/ although I am not sure, as you might need to be a member of the association to access the document.

The WLA attorney is suing the State of Washington for what he has done to landlords so it is possible that the small landlords will get some money from that if he wins the case.

Sorry, my bad, but it did not start out that way. It was just me venting, and what I have to vent about is a lot different than what most people consider serious. Nuff said because I do not want to offend anyone.

It was 28° here today. I just walked up to the store to buy some peanuts to feed the squirrels in the park on the way home.

The store was out of peanuts so I bought bagels instead. The squirrels didn't seem to mind the change of menu.
