...Was it really that bad that all the vendors had to cancel Parler the social media site, to the point that it was forced to shut down..?
First I have heard of it. I gather Parler benefited by hosting these groups?

If someone's planning something stupid like trying to overthrow the US capital they can get a forum up (URL, hosting and all) for less than 25$ a month. The software is free. You can also get a Discord channel for free. You don't need to use somebody else's site. Parler chose to support whatever so that it could get the traffic.

I'm not saying you can start a 'Good' forum that way, but good enough for government work.

No, it's because they allow unmoderated posts, many, many posts, inciting violence, calling for murders, calling for riots, etc. That's why. Amazon will not allow their equipment to be used for those purposes, as it clearly states in their rules of usage contracts.
Meanwhile, on the right, eg, a friend, OAN....
They're claiming censorship destroying free speech.
All I'm seeing is what's been going on forever, ie,
private venues will prohibit speech they deem
inappropriate. The free market is working.

I have not been active on Parler (will from now on, as I find the Jack Dorseys censorship unacceptable), but I remember their terms of service does not say they are unmoderated. They allow free speech, as long as it is not illegal. Inciting violence or calls for murders would not fall within those bounds.

Can you point me to some of those "many posts, inciting violence, calling for murders" that you saw? Thank you!
I'll add the letter that Amazon sent to parlor, specifying the case of 98 violations in recent weeks. The screen shot of the posts was not attached, but this letter is legitimate. They aren't making up lies.

Additionally, you have further information on this here: Amazon, Apple and Google Cut Off Parler, an App That Drew Trump Supporters

In a letter to Parler on Saturday, Amazon said that it had sent the company 98 examples of posts on its site that encouraged violence and that many remained active. “It’s clear that Parler does not have an effective process to comply with” Amazon’s rules, the company said in the letter. Amazon “provides technology and services to customers across the political spectrum, and we continue to respect Parler’s right to determine for itself what content it will allow on its site. However, we cannot provide services to a customer that is unable to effectively identify and remove content that encourages or incites violence against others.”

On Friday, Apple gave Parler 24 hours to clean up its app or face removal from its App Store. Parler appeared to take down some posts over that period, but on Saturday, Apple told the company its measures were inadequate. “We have always supported diverse points of view being represented on the App Store, but there is no place on our platform for threats of violence and illegal activity,” Apple said in a statement.

um...
Wouldn't that be good enough for anti-government work?

I do not know about the app, but the Parler website has been down since yesterday (01102020)

As someone under the influence of computer programming I tend to rely upon standard idioms, though rewording them is occasionally rewarding. Relevant idioms are "Close enough for government work" and "Close enough for engineering purposes."

I've never heard of Parler before now. Its probably a bunch of entrepreneurs trying to break through the stranglehold of big tech, and they made the stupid decision not to kick out these folks. Either that or they actively were supporting them. We don't know. Possibly they are also working for homeland security and have shut down in order to retain legimacy among anti government forces. It wouldn't surprise me, Spruce Goose and all that. If I were homeland I'd of course have been tapping Parler.

Thanks, but I only see the letter, not the 98 cases. Neither are are any screenshots in the link that you gave.
I would really be curious to see what Amazon bases its claim here.

By the way, Amazon just concluded a contract with Twitter to host them instead. Nice, how California big tech moguls work together.

Censorship is NOT destroying free speech?? Can you elaborate?

Ah yes, if you dont like the censorship here, go make your own platform. Is that not exactly what Parler did? So how did that advise work?

The "attached screenshots" were in the email sent to Amy at Parlor. They were not attached to the PDF file the letter was included.

Lest you doubt they actually were ban-worthy, I'll point out that Parlor has not contested the proofs that Amazon attached in that email to Amy at Parlor. If they were nothing, you'd bet your sweet patootie that would be all over the news. Their business's very survival was at stake.

Yet, not one, "No they weren't violent posts!", objections were raised by them. They were violations of their terms of service, not questionable if they were or not. No one contested they weren't. Case closed.

I'm disagreeing with their claims that free speech is being destroyed.
No venue should be forced to host inappropriate speech.
And Trump has other ways to air legitimate speech.

Parler did not make their own platform.
They used someone else's, & violated the terms.

What was so bad about it?

Parler CEO announces their entire system has been shut down, no vendors will touch them, and that will be offline for the foreseeable future.
Parler CEO says the service will be down 'longer than expected'

Why did parlor demand all of your personal info to run

Lol it was a bigger spy app than google

Were people afraid Donald Trump might start talking there..? So they shut it down just in case..?
They relied on sponsorship, ad revenue, etc., and it was in these companies best interests to distance themselves from this garbage. The right was damaging it's own reputation over the last four years. Drinking the kool-aid ended badly for Jim Jone's followers, now we see it ending badly for Trump's. They're squealing, pointing fingers, and playing victim, but it's all self-inflicted. When you forgo honesty and integrity, it catches up.

FYI, Censorship is when the government suppresses dissenting positions. It has nothing to do with what privately owned businesses allow to be said on their public platforms.

For instance, Religious Forums can ban you for saying you want to kill someone. That has nothing to do with the 1st Amendment. Congress has nothing to do with RF, or Amazon, or Apple allowing or disallowing content on their services they provide.

So it is just second-hand information. I have not seen them, and apparently neither have you.
I remember clearly that the Parler TOS say it is not Wild West. If you say something illegal, they will let the FBI investigate it. The difference to Twitter is that they do not censor opinons, i.e. the follow article 230, unlike Twitter that claims to be a platform yet acts as a publisher.

That sounds like a timing problem, and yes I take your sweet patootie bet that the mainstream media would not be all over a news story they don´t like. That would be free money.

I have to admit I never heard of it myself until this thread.

I have heard of Parler before this thread.
As well as Gab and Voat and Thinkspot...

I'm just waiting to see which one is next in needing to change their name to "Evidence"...

Parler have been around for a while, and if you look around on conservative sites, you find that it is are mentioned often.

Fundamentally it is a Twitter clone without the opinion censorship of Twitter. There is a constant debate among conservatives if they should leave the leftist echo chamber that Twitter has become and move completely to Parler. The counter-argument is that then Parler would become a conservative echo-chamber, and then what? No communication between the two tribes.

Please note that Amazon, Google, and Twitter had no problem with Parler until the moment the all together decided to muzzle Trump. Amazing how great minds think alike.
