Pretty sure that would sink any aspiration Pence would have for the Presidency.Takers?
Hmm.Takers?
That's not enough for Trump. He needs not only Pence's pardon, he needs a general pardon from all Governors also (or at the very least from Cuomo). He may threaten to repeat the yesterday stunt to get that pardon.Takers?
Yep, I just don't see Pence doing that. Unless he truly believed it would be better for the country. He clearly is not about to do anything for Trump. One positive sign for Trump is that Pence was not even taking Pelosi's calls when she was interested in seeing if he was willing to go the 25th Amendment route.I doubt it after trump threw Pence under the bus leaving him potentially at physical risk from the rioters who were looking for him by name.
Well we don't want to take away all of the fun of the end of Trump's ill fated reignThat's not enough for Trump. He needs not only Pence's pardon, he needs a general pardon from all Governors also (or at the very least from Cuomo). He may threaten to repeat the yesterday stunt to get that pardon.
I'm not betting against the Nixon-Ford scenario.Takers?
That would probably be the optimum solution for everyone. I would like for Trump to face justice for the crimes that he did as President, but it would heal the country more if he was persuaded to resign. If a pardon for his recent activities was part of the deal I could accept it.I'm not betting against the Nixon-Ford scenario.
As I said above, that's not enough for Trump. He'd go to prison for his crimes committed before the presidency and no presidential pardon would save him from that. That would probably be the optimum solution for everyone. Nothing done at the federal level protects Trump from the various states that are set to punish him for deeds done before he was President. I think that Trump did not want to lose because there are all of these lawsuits waiting for him. Just in case you did not know a sitting President cannot be charged with state level crimes. So if he say cheated the state of New York on various income taxes they could not prosecute him until his term was over. Last time I checked that is noon EST on January 20th. Even if Pence wanted to pardon him he cannot pardon him for those crimes either. A President can only pardon federal crimes. As I said above, that's not enough for Trump. The "optimum" solution from a pure utilitaristic point of view would be if Trump fled the country.
Yep. That's exactly why I said that a pardon from Pence or Biden isn't enough for Trump. He goes to prison anyway.Nothing done at the federal level protects Trump from the various states that are set to punish him for deeds done before he was President.
