Was the Occupation of the Capitol Yesterday an Act of Sedition?

Here is the definition of seditious conspiracy according to US law: 18 U.S. Code § 2384 - Seditious conspiracy

If two or more persons in any State or Territory, or in any place subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, conspire to overthrow, put down, or to destroy by force the Government of the United States, or to levy war against them, or to oppose by force the authority thereof, or by force to prevent, hinder, or delay the execution of any law of the United States, or by force to seize, take, or possess any property of the United States contrary to the authority thereof, they shall each be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than twenty years, or both.
By at least two measures, sedition did indeed occur yesterday.

Whatabout insurrection?

Well, if incitement is part of the crime of insurrection, then Trump appears to be guilty, his sons obviously more so.

18 U.S. Code § 2383 - Rebellion or insurrection

Whoever incites, sets on foot, assists, or engages in any rebellion or insurrection against the authority of the United States or the laws thereof, or gives aid or comfort thereto, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.

To be fair, those who were not violent, but occupied anyway were probably not aware that they had crossed the line the instant they crossed the police barriers. Ignorance of the law is no excuse.

It's definitely Terrorism...

The FBI defines domestic terrorism as violent, criminal acts committed by individuals and/or groups to further ideological goals stemming from domestic influences, such as those of a political, religious, social, racial, or environmental nature.[2]
Domestic terrorism in the United States - Wikipedia.
Under current United States law, set forth in the USA PATRIOT Act, acts of domestic terrorism are those which: "(A) involve acts dangerous to human life that are a violation of the criminal laws of the United States or of any State; (B) appear to be intended – (i) to intimidate or coerce a civilian population; (ii) to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or (iii) to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination, or kidnapping; and (C) occur primarily within the territorial jurisdiction of the United States."[3][4][5]

Looks like a veritable smorgasbords of charges that could be brought.

IMO, sedition & insurrection are a much better fit than "terrorism".
The FBI definition is overly broad.
But terrorism would apply to whomever set any bombs.

I agree with your assessment.
I just find the FBI definition overly broad.
Moreover, violent treason & insurrection are worse (IMO).
Funny, I think it is not broad enough. If I was writing it I would have included the threat of violence.

(but so far the FBI has not contacted me for a consult)
