Queen's Gambit

Just finished watching the seven episodes of Queen's Gambit (Netflix). I liked it a lot.
Haven't seen that, but what my wife and I have started watching [3 episodes thus far] is Outlander on Netflix, and it's quite good ioo.

It almost makes chess look interesting.
But I was uncomfortable with all the booze & drug use.

I used to play tournament chess. The way the show depicts tournament chess was VERY ACCURATE in my experience. We loved it!

As for the drugs and alcohol, the show surfaces actual bad practices in some orphanages in the 50s :(

I once watched a few episodes of Outlander.
Then it slowly jumped the shark...it dawned
on me that it was a bodice ripper.

So, we started watching Outlander on your recommendation. We really enjoy it. Thanks.
And it really touches base with me for another reason as it covers the Mackenzie Clan whereas part of my Celtic ancestry was of the MacDonald Clan that was nearby but were rivals (what's new!) even though they both were in favor of supporting the Jacobites. The former took more of that struggle but also more of the decimation on that clan under the reign of King George II whereas the Redcoats eventually won out.

My parents visited the MacDonald Clan area on the Isle of Skye and the highlands adjacent to it, and were blow away as to how beautiful it is-- today at least.

We're on the 6th program of the 1st season tonight, and our daughter, who has already seen it and is into season 2, says that it just keeps getting better and better.

Anyhow, we love it, and I'm glad you're enjoying it as well!

If Ancestry.com is to be believed, I am 28% Scottish, including a frustrating* link to the Crockett Clan.

* Volume IV of Historical Southern Families claims that I am a direct descendant of one of Davy Crockett's sisters. Sadly, that claim has been debunked.

Interesting aside; Years ago I purchased a gift for my daughter's friend whose family is from Scotland, I wanted an authentic Scott's plaid. He actually refused to sell me a shirt until I identified which clan he belonged to!
