How consistent are you in your beliefs (rules you live by)?

Beliefs in this thread is not only as in religious beliefs; general beliefs (rules you live by)
We had a few threads on abortion (yes or no), but what you do if the meds that could save you contain tissue from aborted fetuses?

1) IF you're vegan/vegetarian would you take meds with (dead/killed) animals on the ingredient list? *)
2) IF you're vegan/vegetarian would you take meds with (aborted) fetus on the ingredient list? *)
3) IF you're non-vegetarian would you take meds with (dead/killed) animals on the ingredient list *)
4) IF you're non-vegetarian would you take meds with (aborted) fetus on the ingredient list? *)
5) IF your religion does not allow it (kosher, halal, X) would you take meds with a 'no go' ingredient list? *)

*)

And what would you do IF this would be the only way to not die if you get the disease (80% don't die)
(Or do you stick to your resolution not to eat animal/fetes/X, and accept living in seclusion)
(To make the choice interesting; living secluded will keep you 100% safe, while meds give 80% safety)

Note: I am vegetarian, and was googling on ingredient lists of meds, and discovered that they use stuff in it, that I never would have expected. Hence it got me thinking. I know that other vegetarians can be quite strict, but what if your life gets in danger, you dare to stick to it? And I know that some religious people are forbidden to eat certain stuff (suppose it's not kosher or not halal or aborted fetus in it). What would you do?

Note: With food I had been thinking about it before. Being vegetarian, I just don't go to north pole and south pole. And when stranded on an island with only option to eat humans, I'll pass on such meal, even if it is crispy well done not visible human.

Note: Maybe better not to read this thread, because what you don't know, won't bother you.

The best I know how to answer is breaking it down into two different sections -

Political beliefs - I find these less easy to persuade than my religious beliefs. The first six months I was here, I tried out multiple religious faiths, but I haven't switched from Democrat to Republican despite some rather intense persuading that made me think. Now that more has gone on since then in the political world, it's unlikely I'll be looking at GOP politicians in an overly positive light for awhile.

Religious beliefs - I now feel pretty confident in Hinduism. If I do some day split from this path, it will probably be something extremely similar to Hinduism.

I don't know. Interesting question - does it matter?

We live in a universe that is constantly changing and where uncertainty is frequent. Expecting (perfect) consistency in an inconsistent universe strikes me as... peculiar? Wouldn't consistent responses to inconsistent and changing circumstances actually be somewhat maladaptive? Or is there something to be said for the converse? Does the answer depend?

Pretty inconsistent. It depends on the mood I'm in, who I've been talking to, and so on. And in my experience beliefs and opinions are often more of a hindrance than a help in trying to understand things. Better to keep an open mind, or just say "I don't know".

Your reply is consistent, as I see as "Religion: Not sure"

And what about taking meds that could save your life but had e.g. tissue of aborted fetuses in it (I came across that today ... never expected that).

Good question. It'd probably make more sense if you asked someone anti-abortion :)
I am not anti abortion, but getting it into my body is a different issue for me, fetus eater (when I had to swallow a pill ... yak) ;).

1) I'm not a vegetarian I can't answer
2) I'm not a vegetarian I can't answer
3) yes I do not have a problem whit it, as long as I am not responsible for the disease (I mean an example: smoking I am not willing to undergo any treatment for my decision to smoke)

I think I'm more consistent than most.

As far as harm to animals, I don't eat them, wear their skins or eat food containing potential parts not clearly labled vegetable-sourced. -- such as mono or diglycerides, polysorbates, &c. So bread or pickles are generally all out.

Meds don't usually come with ingredient lists. You have to google. Those that clearly are animal-sourced, like gelatin capsules, I avoid, or open to pour onto my tongue.

If you really want to gross yourself out... do full research what's used in makeup products.
I see, your makeup products are so gross, that aborted fetus is like peanuts.
Glad I don't use make-up. And I won't google on it, I trust you on your word

Trustworthiness is basically a measure of how well one person can predict the positive (relative/subjective) responses of another. Consistency does play into that idea - at least in part. If you apply decisions/judgments/responses inconsistently, to the point that someone you are in some sort of relationship with feels that they cannot trust the outcome of any situation in which you are a part, then that is bound to be perceived as a problem (relative/subjective) between you. And I highly doubt that the excuse that "everything's changing and I am just adapting" is going to work to excuse what amounts to untrustworthy behavior.

Thank you for the info. I think I am also more consistent than most, but I do deviate (as in below example).

In 1988 I was not vegetarian and I bought shows made of leather. Now I don't buy them anymore. BUT I still use this pair of shoes, as the animal already died for me, when I was unaware, hence it would feel as lack of gratitude to throw them away (harm has been done already). Similar idea, I would not take gelatin capsules, and I really feel bad if, I by accident, got gelatin inside (but I am quite alert on that one).

I did not know mono or diglycerides, polysorbates were animal products (not sure if I get them anyway, but thanks for mentioning them. Normal bread is out? why is that? (I do know that they put in an animal ingredient decades ago, but they changed that in Holland). But I will check that one too

@stvdv My beliefs are set in concrete for me.

God's laws are God's laws, so they are not negotiable.

I will not break them even to save my own life.

Luke 9:23-25....
"Then he went on to say to all: “If anyone wants to come after me, let him disown himself and pick up his torture stake day after day and keep following me. 24 For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake is the one who will save it. 25 Really, what good will it do a man if he gains the whole world but loses his own self or suffers ruin?"

Pretty much sums it up for me...what is the point of doing anything half-heartedly? :)

Yeah, they used to bake with lard. That was pretty obvious. But I challenge you to find a loaf of bread in a regular grocery store that doesn't contain glycerides of unlabeled origins or a chocolate bar that sources its lecithin.
Health-food stores do better.

Good on ya. See Matthew 6:25.
Do what's right and let the chips fall where they may.

But how are we to know which of the myriad laws attributed to God by the various religions are the correct ones?

My buddy calls me a Jihadi Catholic so from his perspective (he's agnostic) I tend to be rather consistent. It is fairly accurate but obviously fail in certain areas like staying healthy and other similar areas.
