What I like about Sonic the Hedgehog

Sonic the Hedgehog is my favorite character in fiction. What I like so much about him is he's extremely underpowered by himself. Sure he has speed. But he's weak in power, he can't swim, he probably couldn't do the hardest pushups. He wasn't born a weapon of power. He doesn't contain much wisdom as he's only 15. He knows little about the universe. And yet he believes and usually wins... but just barely and by the spikes of his neck each time. He could save you from an explosion, then lose his balance and traction from the impact and drop you out of his hands and go flying into a wall.

Also, if you go back to the roots, Sonic was a fast character in the Genesis days, sure... but I think it was more about momentum than speed.

Two other qualities is he's lightweight, which doesn't always result in good things happening in action fiction... and he's surrounded by characters like Knuckles and Shadow who think that raw power is just about all that matters.
