A female James Bond. Are you kidding me?

Then it wouldn't be James Bond anymore.
James Bond has been through many iterations. If Superman can survive adapting to the world around him, I don’t see why Bond can’t.
A female Bond could provide interesting commentary and could be the injection of life the franchise needs.

I don't think Superman is doing a great job at surviving.

I agree with you there. Though I did enjoy Red Son and Man of Tomorrow.
My heart will always belong to Batman.
Super pumped for the new live action flick

What is James Bond though? The Connery era films were quite different from the book character with the Moore-era, Brosnan-era and Craig-era each being significantly different in turn (and that's without considering any other media over the years). Obviously a female Bond would be a massive shift (though that isn't what is happening anyway) but the idea of there being a singular image of the character strikes me as silly.

It's more like an aesthetic than a character. And if an ***-kicking, smooth talking, toy-having power fantasy MUST be male, imo that says a lot about you.

Note that Batman also went through a lot of iterations from super campy, to dark and violent to somewhere in the middle. in fact, I would dare say that Batman had more phase than Superman or Wonder Woman though both these characters also substantially changed and had different styles over the years. James Bond, is much like these superheroes. He also changed quite a lot. Badgets, smooth-talking, british posh style are still something that carries over.

If 007 is granted to a female, I'd consider going. I haven't seen a Bond film in years, but I like strong female leads in the genre. (I was disappointed to hear Stumptown got cancelled.)

New Isn't there a film anywhere that isn't tainted with identity politics?

Lashana Lynch Confirms She Is James Bond's New 007, Haters Be Damned

What are they trying to do? Kill Sean Connery's legacy of a the iconic male lines of James Bonds?
Ha! What was left of his legacy after George Lazenby, Connery killed himself with Never Say Never Again. If the James Bond franchise can survive the kitschy crap of the Roger Moore era, it'll be just fine with a female James Bond.

No single image...but a range which can be exceeded.
Some already pushed the boundaries in the wrong direction.

He also first appeared with purple gloves, for some reason and killed Willy Nilly. That was retconned pretty early. I did enjoy the two animated films that paid tribute to the Adam West era (return of the caped crusaders and Batman vs Two Face.) Even had the original cast.

Can you imagine Beatlejuice as a girl, The Three Amigos are all black, Chinese, and Porte Rican girls? The God Father becomes the God Mother. Patrick Swayze teaching a young teenage boy how to dance (Dirty Dancing)?

Some parts are just specific to certain actors. It isn't political, racists, or anything like that. It's all fiction. Just as there isn't a black superman, these classics just stick and the ones that continue shouldn't be touched. Even when they replaced some of the characters in sequels that doesn't even look like the original character really messes things up.

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
I say chill. I can agree that so called “corporate wokeness” can be annoying. Because the writing is often terrible. But sometimes franchises just change. I’ve seen gender swapped versions of Shakespeare, gender swapped versions of classical tales, comic characters has like a veritable laundry list of Alt characters, if you like.
Give it a chance, you might have some fun.
I’m more concerned about it being as bad as Spectre. As long as the script is decent, it should be a good send off to Craig.
Thing about Dr Who was not her being a woman.
Its the other characters and a badly written series. You have a good point.

I'm sad for you that someone is making you watch it against your will. :(

And 007 is the agent number. She's not playing James Bond. Even the title say she's the new 007, not the new James Bond.

And although many have played James Bond, for me, the only actor that has nailed the character and is the character is Sean Connery.

It's the context. I didn't watch Super Woman and watched some of Bat Woman because Super Man and Batman are classics. So, they can make opposite sex characters in different movies; but, I think some people who want to have men and women equality in fiction is pushing it a bit too far. Some traditions just stick regardless the sex of the person involved.

It wouldn't have survived the comic code changes that mad violence of that type unacceptable. Superman also killed some bad guys. Wonder Woman was the only gold age superhero with a strict no killing policies that all superhero of the genre adopted.

I dunno
Switching the sexes of characters is like the bread and butter of writing. It’s even used as exercises to teach writing techniques.
Batman has batgirl, batmite, etc. superman has Supergirl, his dog Krypton and superboy etc. Hell Thor has Throg who is a literal frog and a horse named Bill who wields the hammer.
Ironically I think the only classic character that doesn’t have a bajillion copies of is Wonder Woman. Maybe Wonder Girl, I dunno
