YouTube movie about a virus outbreak

YouTube movie about a virus outbreak

We live in a world where "Reality TV scores high", this films resemble the reality we live in now with the virus; hence I found it useful

The movie is from 2007. Interesting to see that the rules that apply now, were already known back then; distancing and masks

I watched this film about virus outbreak, and found it interesting. It pointed out clearly the danger of a virus pandemic, and how fast it can spread if we are not careful. Also it points out the importance of distancing and masks. I am still wondering though, why WHO said no mask in the beginning while it was well known in 2007, at least in the movie they knew it. Here in Holland (but also elsewhere) many people still doubt masks; governments seem to have caused a lot of confusion by their contradicting information. Also about social distancing is still a lot of confusing in some countries (Sweden did not have it at all). And the US president does not help either with his comments "I downplayed it" and not being a good example of wearing a mask and mocking others

I find it strange, that if they already knew about it so well, that these governments gave us all this contradicting information. Feels very wrong. Looks even like on purpose spreading confusion and thereby fear, which is bad; esp. in a case of a worldwide pandemic. Even the Dutch King went on holiday recently and was called back later. I think these things are really disturbing and bad.

As of now the staff will be monitoring all covid-19 related threads and posts for accuracy and deleting anything that we feel qualifies as misinformation.

Examples include but are not limited to:

--- any potentially dangerous medical advice.

--- provably inaccurate statistics related to the pandemic

--- down-playing the severity of the crisis, for instance: claiming that this virus is, "No more dangerous than the seasonal flu" (this has been addressed and disproven repeatedly here).

We are committed to keeping our membership informed and prepared to whatever degree we have control over, and would appreciate any help the members can give us by reporting anything that you feel might potentially mislead people.

In making determinations about all of this, our primary sources for information will be the WHO and CDC.

The posting of anything determined to be blatantly or dangerously inaccurate or misleading, in accordance with review against the information provided by these sources, will be considered a rule 9 violation and treated as such.

We live in a world where "Reality TV scores high", so such films resemble reality quite well IME; hence I found it useful

The movie is from 2007. Interesting and illuminating to watch this, especially remembering how governments and WHO dealt with it in 2020. This does raise red flags.

I'm not watching an hour and a half of this stuff. What is there to discuss about this piece of fiction, in relation to current events?

This is a 2007 TV Movie about a fictional pandemic. It has nothing to do with COVID-19 and the only "Current Event" is the shameless attempt to cash in on the current real world situation and the borderline false advertising used to achieve that.

The only open question would be why you chose to promote such trash in the first place.

Yeah, there are better viral pandemic films available surely. On Amazon Prime right now there is also a show called Utopia which seems to mention things like this also, besides numerous series, tv shows, miniseries, films, even cartoons. There was a virus going to be released in some comic books, and successfully released in other comic books, this has been something concerning people for a long time, and had a precedent in the past with earlier generations experiences with various viruses as well as within our time with outbreaks in other countries or even SARS. What is unique about the Covid situation is the worldwide "stay in your homes" periods that occurred, and that resembles what happened in some Zombie films I saw and which were made before the Covid outbreak as well, where people had to stay inside their homes and then were cautious about letting sick people in. Also, the measures to "stay inside" were already familiar to the people who organize and design plans for dealing with outbreaks.

People had very little patience overall, and started to become less and less serious about taking precautions in some places, so the waves of the disease returned and people started to get sick again because of that.

Movies often focus on things besides the economic impact and exaggerate events much more than what we experienced or saw on television, which was still dramatic and different but far less violent and graphic as films tend to like to make things out to be.

Thank you for the feedback. It was even twice 1.5 hours, and I don't expect others to watch it:D, unless they want to see such a movie. For me it was good, because where I live there is hardly any corona virus visible (I still haven't met anyone so far). But our PM prophesized that we will be hit by the second wave soon, so watching this movie made me aware it is very deadly, and I should not get lax with the social distancing. Sometimes fiction is not so far from reality

I just shared the YouTube links, because I liked the movie, not to discuss it. It does fit in "current events" (I checked with mods)

Hahaha. I never thought about this being promoting a film. I just shared the 2 links, because I liked the film, and it reminded me (with pictures) that I should not get lax in social distancing, and maybe even consider wearing a mask. Where I live I have not seen one corona case (this made me a bit easy going the last few weeks), but our PM prophesized that soon the second wave will hit Holland.

I respect your opinion that you think this is trash, I enjoyed it; no trash for me.

OK.

For me the virus is all too real. I've had it myself, as has my brother, and his son (who has still not completely recovered his sense of taste - I lost mine for several weeks), also a friend who lives in Grenoble, who was in hospital for a week with it (she also lost her sense of taste and smell for several weeks), and the brother in law of another friend who was in bed for over a week, feeling lousy. I do not personally know anyone who has died, but I do know medics who worked in London hospitals in the spring and were nearly overrun by it.

So, personally, I need movies about fictional viruses like I need a third nostril. I'm more interested in reading facts and evidence about the real thing, as we learn more about it.

Thank you for sharing. I checked the trailer of Utopia, seems a bit more unreal than this one, but understandable as it is Utopia

I guess that people like to watch more violent and graphic and not too boring, at least when it's on the white screen. Real life probably not.

Thank you for sharing. Wow, I can understand you don't need such a film. Wish you well, and hope you fully recover without lasting damage. And it's good to share your experience I think, because where I live, people don't understand how serious it is, because here we still don't have it. But it can happen any moment of course, and then better be prepared, esp. be aware how to avoid it (if that is possible)

I had it back in March, very slightly apart from the anosmia, which I did begin to fear might be permanent. That would have been "life-changing", as they say, and not in a good way. Imagine going through life unable to enjoy any food or drink, unable to to smell gas, or smoke in case of fire, or when the bin needs emptying, or the smell of earth after rain. People with long term anosmia may need psychological help in the same way as someone who has lost a limb.

That's just one after-effect. There are many other more serious ones, none of which I have suffered, Al-hamdu lillah.

Its a dumb idea for a movie anyways. You watch movies to escape, not to live in your present misery.

Now if the virus mutates and becomes some rampaging mega monster the size of Godzilla that of course would be another matter. I'd watch that version.

There have been reports of cases around where you live though right? Where do you live?

Interesting detail: My Master, Sai Baba declared "when you surrender to me, I take fully care of you" and He also said "IF you come to me, and leave house and everything behind THEN I will even provide a house when you return". I went and stayed for many years with Him. Returning to Holland Sai Baba came in my dream and showed me the house He had in mind for me. Of course I took this house "given by Him", which happened to be 1 of the 2 spots in Holland without Corona (I belong to the risk group)

That's about right; never thought about that. We keep (2m:triangularruler::triangularruler: + 2 :cow::cow:) distance from other people; that must be why we have no Corona here:D
