Biden-Trump Debate: "We're done, sir."

My favorite line from last night's first debate between Biden and Trump was when Chris Wallace told Trump: "We're done, sir."

Given the challenge that Biden faces if he moves to cancel his participation in the last two scheduled debates, I intend to suggest that each participant be enclosed in a booth throughout the debate and that time limits be strictly enforced by shutting off the sound system of the person who's time is "done".

I'm hoping Biden does cancel the other debates. The last one wasn't a debate. It's obvious that president troll isn't going to abide by any terms and rules agreed upon and the moderators won't hold them accountable to the rules they agreed upon. It's a nonviable format for engagement with very little to be gained from. Debates are supposed to help inform the public about the plans and policy positions of the candidates. Very little of that can happen when one participant's rhetorical style amounts to being a pathetic internet troll. The same rule of internet forums applies to debates: don't feed the troll.

The problem is that Trump and his supporters will use that to attack Biden. They'll spin it as a sign of fear or defeat. So he's between a rock and a hard place. I think the best compromise is to keep the debate but as Terry suggested, cut the mic of each person when it's not their turn so there's not constant interruption.

For the sake of my health and blood pressure, I did not watch the cage match. It turned out about as I expected from reading the 538 live blog and some news stories. From those stories I'm happy with how Biden comported himself and Donny the loser that he is.

That's a simple solution. But imagine how much that will freak out poor Donald. It would be like someone saying "no" to him! It will leave him absolutely disoriented. Tongueless Trump. I keep imagining January when he is escorted out of the White House into private life, and Twitter immediately bans him for trolling and spreading false information, because he's no longer a political leader. Then, come all the indictments. You wonder why he's shouting to drown out Biden? That's why. He knows what awaits him outside.
