President Trump on Patriotic Education

Embedding is very automatic here it seems.

Links embed themselves as well as sometimes autoprovide the title.

Videos.... you need a clean clear link and post it and the video will show up in your post.

President Trump on patriotic education

Thoughts? (Also for some reason it wouldn't let me embed it. If someone knows why and does it below I will copy it and have it embedded here.)

I don't wanna use the "F" word but when the elephant is in the room....

Welp...he managed to slot 'Patriotic Education' and 'truth' in the same sentence. Whichever one of those is the most important would be the determining factor in my thoughts.
My suspicion is that this is hypocrisy of the finest order (banning ideological education to replace it with ideological education) but I'm more than happy to trawl through any specific information on what any of this actually means.

Unfortunately I'm a tragic when it comes to topics on education...last vestige of my old career, I can't seem to shake.

Yep. Primary school teacher, but I haven't been in the industry for many a year. Still have a couple of close friends who work as teachers, and I still am pretty passionate about education, particularly at a more strategic level.
Got any funny anecdotes?
My cousin is a high school teacher and his brother is a deputy for a primary school (incidentally my old school, which is kind of funny, since I went to the high school my cousin teaches at.)
The stories I have heard from them during drinking sessions, my god!!

So, Trump wants to reduce racism and promote equality by... Banning educational projects that empower minority groups and theoretical historical analysis of America's policies and the way that they may impact on or be influenced by race.

In other words, he wants to promote equality by not letting non-white people be empowered or have the ability to recognize the racism inherent in America and American history.

It's been said before, but: yikes.

I wonder how many of those people on this forum who cried out for the freedom of speech of fascists will cry out for the freedom of speech of these scholars and educators?

What's wrong with patriotic education, it's no different than patriotic tax evasion. Oh go on then, use the F word. In fact, use it twice.

I think we've had "patriotic education" for as long as I can remember, starting each day with the Pledge of Allegiance. We were always taught that America is the greatest, that we saved the world from evil forces and continue to be a force of absolute good in the world.

When teaching patriotism outweighs teaching the truths of history, we have lost the core value required for our government to work: a reliance on truth and an educated populace.

The US has a long history of horrible abuses of power and of denying basic freedoms even to its own citizens. The only way to fix those problems is to understand that we have done them and to be determined not to do them again.

But at least some of the truth came out along the way. We could learn about our support for dictators, about overthrowing democracies we didn't like, about experiments on our own citizens, about sterilization programs, etc.

Very slowly, these facts about our history were making their way into the classrooms and starting to change minds. Clearly this president and his supporters don't want to change those things.

I did learn about these things, but not in school.

Another reason I'd much sooner kick him in the nuts than shake his hand.
WOW! I think I'm in love with you. (Sorry, Rival.)
I wonder....
If you disliked a female politician, would
you speak of kicking her in the vagina?
Sexual violence should always be abhorrent.

I don't like instilling patriotism in students. It's not only
icky, it always seems to serve some bad purpose, eg,
sacrificing individuality, submitting to the state.
Better to be subversive....make'm read the Constitution,
& study the origins of the Bill Of Rights & subsequent
amendments.

Patriotic education is what they teach in North Korea and China just to name two of many.

I'm going to agree on teaching subversion. I'd include the Great Seal and Lincoln's speeches as well.
