CA's new pro-LGBTQ+ inmate law

How trans is trans?

The CDCR cannot deny requests solely because of inmates' anatomy or sexual orientation.
.

If a dude prefers to bunk and shower with chicks, is that trans enough?
The article wasn't at all clear on what the standards are, only what they aren't.

Frankly, I'm a gay, gay!, guy. If saying I'm trans would rescue me from being incarcerated with a bunch of male sexual predators I'd lie in a heartbeat.
No problem.

And if I were a male sexual predator, I'd still rather bunk and shower with chicks. I'd lie.

I would say the law is well intended but, not appropriate. It's not just about one's sex that there is a separation between and female. A lot of factors that separate male and female, strength, muscle mass, etc that separates male and female. The idea and morality of sex separation in itself I believe it's a societal thing but taken as a whole. Everyone should be equal. But the fact there is a difference in body structure (and all I can't think of at the moment), it would make sense to group people off by their strength etc and not because of their genitals.

I like how they are asking inmates in private how they identify and taking that into consideration just as other rights people should have as people (inmates are people too) but placement and things like that I feel it's not a political thing but a safety thing. It's not like sports where the same problem is brought up. There's more leniency in sports than there is in prison given the fact that prisoners aren't ideally supposed to have benefits that outweigh the consequence of their crime.

How much can any prisoner be given leniency without undermining the nature of being punished for their crimes and thereby relieved of most things and wants that one outside of prison could normally have whether through advocacy or not?

That might be true. I've heard of cis female versions of Bubba who are harsh on women. But, I've heard that much still isn't as bad as the men's prison.
Exactly!
Regardless of SJW b.s., men are far more likely to rape whoever's handy. Because they just wanna get their rocks off and don't care about the other person. They often don't even see them as another person, just a hole or two(or three) to use.

I realize that SJWs insist that rape isn't about sexual gratification. Frankly, that belief makes me think that they're kinda stupid. They know very little about half the species, the male half. They demonstrate this every time I hear "Rape isn't about sex."
Sometimes not, there's a lot of freaks out there. Many are in prison, unsurprisingly. But mostly rape is stealing sexual gratification, not all that different from stealing a car or an old lady's purse. More personal, violent, destructive, invasive, but not all that different.

If I were a guy, one that wasn't a violent sexual predator, I'd totally lie and claim to be "trans" just to avoid the sexual predators that the USA prison system grows.
It's like they* do it on purpose, to add an extra helping of vengeance on the convicts.

* ETA ~By "they" I mostly mean the tough on crime Christian folks who run the USA~

So these trans inmates are going to be in PC with all the perverts and child molesters, surely not in the general population, or are they going to have their own unit??

Like all the rapes we were told would be rampant in bathrooms if we let trans people use the public bathroom they identify with, the fear-mongering around this is likely to be much ado about nothing.

Yup. To air my own stuff, my strength has dwindled and Im not much stronger than the average woman. And sexually, I basically can't perform as a male anymore.
And I very highly doubt they'll let just anyone claim to be trans and accept it at face value.
These really do seem like the same bathroom concerns that just never came to fruition.

So its systematic rape? That's unacceptable. That qualifies as cruel punishment.

That's my thought. Just because you are in prison doesn't mean people ought to be subject to this.

Gender shouldn't matter. Everyone should get humane treatment. However, in this current situation, if I get sent to jail and they are going to give me a choice, I'm identifying as female.

Why not?
The quote suggested differently. How would you distinguish between a "real" trans and somebody who said they were? Where's the clear bright line that government officials will use to decide which prison population you get put into?

Quite the contrary, I see this more like those bathroom concerns brought to "fruition".

The issues with public restrooms always seemed way over blown to me. As a guy, I'm not afraid of anybody I might share a urinal with. But the restroom at a restaurant is way different from a cellmate I'm locked in with all night.

Seriously, you don't see the difference here?
