Since we're all being bombarded by political ads, I thought we might want to share some of the political advertisements that ... well ... don't appear to be part of a well thought out strategy.
Here are my top two picks:
Wesley Hunt, Texas 7th Congressional District, launched a new ad yesterday. This ad stated that his opponent would put the U.S. back into the Paris Climate Agreement, which will put jobs in the U.S. at risk.
Why this is a strategic failure: Tropical Storm Beta lingered over this congressional district for three days and dropped over 12 inches of rain in some neighborhoods (like mine). This ad launched on the third day of the storm, and essentially announced Wesley Hunt's intention to oppose legislation aimed at halting climate change. Neighborhoods throughout his district flooded in 2017 (due to Hurricane Harvey), and some of the houses in this district flooded in 2015, 2016 and 2017.
His timing for this ad could not have been worse.
President Trump's campaign sent me two different surveys last week. Each survey contained the following question: "Do you agree with me that China must be held accountable for their lies and deceptions before and during the COVID-19 pandemic?"
Why this is a strategic failure: This survey was sent out a week after Bob Woodward released the audio recordings of President Trump's comments regarding COVID-19 including, "It's even more deadly than your, you know, your most strenuous flus," and, "I always wanted to play it down. I still like playing it down, because I don't want to create a panic." Even though President Trump's political opponents are using these recordings as evidence that he misled the public, President Trump is continuing to insist that those telling "lies and deceptions" about COVID-19 "must be held accountable."
There seems to be a lot of potential for voters to decide that President Trump should be held accountable for the exact same reason.
