More conservative than Attila the Hun?

New Kelly Loeffler ad asserts she's 'more conservative than Attila the Hun'

Well, this is an interesting claim to fame.

In the ad from Loeffler's campaign, a woman asks, "Did you know Kelly Loeffler was ranked the most conservative senator in America?" to which a man replies, "Yup, she's more conservative than Attila the Hun."

The scene cuts to a scene of a warrior who is purportedly Attila the Hun, who grunts at a scribe taking notes.

"Fight China -- got it," the scribe says while writing. "Attack big government -- yeah."

"Eliminate the liberal scribes ... uh oh," the scribe says in response to the last grunt to end the scene. A narrator then says, "More conservative than Attila the Hun. Kelly Loeffler: 100% Trump voting record."

Was Attila the Hun a conservative? Why would a contemporary U.S. politician compare herself to Attila the Hun?

"Eliminate the liberal scribes"? Does that seem disconcerting to anyone else?

Anti-intellectualism seems to be encouraged and seen as positive in some circles. So saying dumb things is kinda...good...right?

I suppose, although this was also rather strange. The article mentioned that some believed she may have confused Attila the Hun with Genghis Khan.

I wouldn't imagine fact checking was high on the list of priorities. The accuracy...or otherwise...of the advertisement is completely beside the point. It's purely a sales pitch to a demographic.

It's informative as to what she believes is effective messaging and how she's positioning herself. Nothing more.

By the standards of the time and his culture, he was actually modern and revolutionnary. He admired Roman culture and sought to emulate many of their practices. He built himself a palace and bath-house of Roman style.

It's interesting to see Republicans trying to paint themselves as 100% for Trump, while others appear to be distancing themselves from Trump. But in this case, she was apparently trying to show that she was more pro-Trump than one of the other candidates who also declared that he was fully pro-Trump. So, it's like they're trying to outdo each other and be more pro-Trump than the other.

The funny part is that the Huns during Atilla's time were an absolute scourge to the Church, as well as being a polygamist. Nothing strange about that in his times, or in his culture, but I suppose the caricature of Atilla wouldn't hold up to much scrutiny.
He was also known for living simply, and deliberately eschewing grandiosity. He didn't want to separate himself from his people.

Again...I doubt that's the message we're supposed to take from the ad.
But even discussing this in a realistic sense is beside the point.

Indeed an interesting choice for a Christian conservative, seeing as the Huns were such enemies of Christendom that they became seen as satanic harbingers of the apocalypse.

In the Syriac Alexander Legend dating to 629–630, Gog (Syriac: ܓܘܓ‎, gwg) and Magog (Syriac: ܡܓܘܓ‎ܵ, mgwg) appear as kings of Hunnish nations.[j][52] Written by a Christian based in Mesopotamia, the Legend is considered the first work to connect the Gates with the idea that Gog and Magog are destined to play a role in the apocalypse.[53] The legend claims that Alexander carved prophecies on the face of the Gate, marking a date for when these Huns, consisting of 24 nations, will breach the Gate and subjugate the greater part of the world.

Revelation 20:7-10:

When the thousand years are over, Satan will be released from his prison and will go out to deceive the nations in the four corners of the Earth—Gog and Magog—and to gather them for battle. In number they are like the sand on the seashore They marched across the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of God’s people, the city he loves. But fire came down from heaven and devoured them. And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

As a tribalist, Atilla did not extend moral consideration to The Other, much like the America First, patriotic right wing.
We need to learn to be more globalist. There is no "us" or "them."
