Do you hate me more or less now that I have an avatar of my actual self?

You just went up a notch.
No, not really, but I think it's dangerous and irresponsible. I hope it doesn't become an example for others.
I value my anonymity on the net and I think it's a good thing that RF gives me the option to keep it. And it's a good thing that most RFers keep theirs.
Of course everyone is free to disclose his own identity but was it a free and informed decision on your side? Are you aware of the possible repercussions?
On another forum far far away, there is such a photo thread. Amongst all the pages, there is a pic of my foot on there, if anyone is interested.

But progression usually wins eventually, right?
No. Things do, can, have, and still go backwards. Things like Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy was born through a massive degredatiom to rights and liberties. Here in America's past, black people lost the right to vote in some places and didnt gain that right but regain it. Today black people are still attacked from the bench, and it's been added that Evangelical Christian RFRAs put queers beneath the bigotry of religion, and "right to work" is a full frontal assault on unions and workers.

I think I was taught this mindset from all the metal bands I listened to.
You picked that up out of metal music? It was always pop music that filled me with  and metal filled me with :D... but, I may be an odd one.

I thought about it, but my worst "internet horror story" managed to happen despite me never having posted any pictures on the internet. Let's just say it made me realize that me not posting pictures of myself didn't automatically give me any sort of bulletproof shield; that for me, it was all just an illusion. After that, I decided I may post pictures in rather limited capacities - just not where I think employers could easily access them and any time they want to.

So far the only picture I know of that's floating around online of me is one connected with an old gaming account... probably a few very old ones from other people's social media accounts. I refuse to participate in social media myself(it gives me terrible gas), and tend to ask people not to put pictures of myself or my children on theirs. But, you know how people can be... All in all, I don't worry about it, though. Unless someone has a name and identity to connect to my picture, what can they do against me?

I never trust anyone who uses their actual picture for their Avatar.

Makes me wonder what they're trying not to hide.

I can confidently say that because that sentence requires too much Googling for the average RF'er :p.
