Why has the status of women become so important in our age?

Why, after thousands of years of oppression of women, has suddenly, man himself, began to champion her rights of equality? Even in the Bible there are passages forbidding women to openly speak, yet today, women’s rights are at the forefront of human rights battles.

Why this sudden change of heart towards women?

Sorry for not including that.

Corinthians 1 14:34

Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

The human population has suddenly grown-up and realised its errors

We have realized that scriptures are not the words of any God, Allah or Bhagawan (Bog). They are creations of men and are false at places.
Women constitute nearly 50% of the population; and in most countries, they have the right to vote.

"Oppression of women" is bunkum. You have yet to disclose any evidence of their oppression outside of criminal conduct. If you view marriage as inherently "oppression," you suggest the Baha'i "faith" is little removed from outright satanism.

The preference for female empowerment these days is reversion back to mother goddess worship, nature worship, Ba'al worship and anything but the truth.

Romans 1: 22 "Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things."

But hasn’t God always loved us? So why the change now?

In today's cosmopolitain, multi ethnic megasociety, living in discrete, self-contained tribes has become impracticable, and status hierarchies more obviously exploitative. Brute force is no longer so effective a way of keeping women and menials in their place.

Women work cheaper and are more obedient. And in a culture that is obsessed with ever increased profits, this has become an important factor. So important that in many households the females are the breadwinners, while the males are lucky to find work at all.

Why not?

The bronze age, iron age, dark age are long gone. That the misogynistic attitudes of the male authors of scripture should continue to this day in varying extents is a very sad reflection on religion.

Women have had to fight for their right to equality. It's unfortunate that most religion still has a downer on women

I'd question the idea that thousands of years of world history was consistently oppressive of women. There are plenty of times and places where they most certainly were (often horrifically) but there are also times and places where women (or at least some women) were respected or even venerated. In general, it's a much more complex picture than many people give credit for.

I think there is a more specific focus here, primarily from the modern western context (though inevitably spreading beyond that with the shrinking world). Here we're talking about a few hundred years and I'm not sure we can say the change has been sudden but the result of a long hard slog by women (and men on their behalf).

There are probably many factors but vastly improved rates education and literacy would be critical. Accompanying education are the many benefits of science especially in the areas of health, agriculture, transportation and digital technology, Our current world crisis as shown how women leaders are often more empathetic and better communicators. The prime minister of my country is a women who recently turned 40.
