Confessions? I hear some here don't believe in it.... Come out come out wherever you are..

You can also just name one from the last 1000 years and that way safely divert attention from yourself.

freedom of belief is a given...
We believe what we do, what ever any one else might demand.
When it comes to religion, we also make choices as to the depth of our conformity.
There are the vast number of religions, denominations, and sects, that there are,
for the very reason that people rarely agree about all the fine details following a particular faith entails.

In our own minds we are always free to believe what we believe.

Confession is no different.
It can be looked at in many ways.
Firstly is is a useful way of coming to terms with your past, even if you only do it in your own mind.
Some actually believe that a priest has the power to forgive sins.
Others believe that only God has that power.
Others believe that confessing with the help of a priest has a cathartic effect as a form of
discipline. But has nothing to do with the power to forgive sins. but is about amending behaviour.

What ever we believe, it is no bad thing to review you life, ethics and behaviour from time to time.
there is no need to call it Confession.

You are asking on a liberal forum where most people believe in freedom of religion and from religion, however you should be aware that more conservative societies such as Pakistan and Iran hold differing views.

Are right wingers liberal? I really was told in another thread that, not only are there many from the last 1000 years, there are also some in this forum. I demand evidence.

And even if they don't believe this, pretty soon they will have their butt kicked by RF Rules gracious explained to them

And face the hard reality: change my view or change forum:D

Currently, Iran and Pakistan, where fundamentalists are quite happy to call for the death of those not agreeing with the dominant religion.

Daesh was pretty notorious about not liking religious freedom.

China is pretty bad about it as well. Just ask the Uigers.

In the US, there are many that claim to support religious freedom, but also want to restrict the building of mosques. And, while they would love a plaque for the 10 commandments, they balk at the idea of allowing a pagan to have a plaque as well.

There are many places still where being an atheist puts a person at risk of the death sentence.

Usually, people *say* they like religious freedom, but it is limited to those religions they agree with. Actions speak louder than words on this.

Part of freedom of religion is freedom to criticize religions. And *that* will get you into trouble in many places in the world. Those at Charlie Hebdo might have some experience in this.

If you want to go back in history just a bit, the old USSR was rather intolerant of religions in general.

Anyway, the list is long and distributed around the world.

What's your belief system called?

It consists of cognitive, cultural and moral relativism. Beliefs in Universal Human Rights and that all humans are with dignity and worth. So it is a combination liberalism, social democracy, democracy, secular and humanism.
As for religion I do believe in a God, but it is a philosophical God.
In short I fit this ethical system or "religion": Our UU Faith
