The COVID-19 Pandemic has definitely played havoc with the Old World Order.
Not only has it raised serious doubt about my ability to survive in the New World Order, it has severely increased my Daily Misery Index by increasing Daily Living Challenges and decreasing Daily Living Pleasures.
Arbitrarily assigning a value, on a scale of 1 to 10, to my "Daily Living Challenges", with 1 representing "Minimum Daily Challenges" and 10 representing "Maximum Daily Challenges", I guesstimate that my Daily Living Challenges was about a 5.
Arbitrarily assigning a value, on a scale of 1 to 10, to my Old World Order "Daily Living Pleasure", with 1 representing "Minimum Daily Pleasure" and 10 representing "Maximum Daily Pleasure", I guesstimate that my Old World Order Daily Living Pleasure was about a 5.
Dividing my Old World Order Daily Living Challenges value of 5 by my Old World Order Daily Living Pleasure value of 5, my Old World Order Daily Living Quotient was 1, which was pretty good, IMO.
The Pandemic, obviously, increased my Daily Living Challenges substantially, to about a 9; and decreased my Daily Living Pleasure substantially, to about a 1, giving me a New World Order Daily Living Quotient of 9, which is in the "Life's a *****" range.
Initially, in the New World Order, shopping for groceries was a nightmare and my customary grocery list diminished significantly. Over time, grocery stores restored order have almost returned to normal where I live.
Initially, in the New World Order, previously-normal dining-out or take-out food consumption plummeted to "Not Happening" levels. Over time, restaurants got a handle on things and, while still far below normal Old World Order levels, have inched their way back to acceptable "Can Do" levels.
Gradually, over the past months, my Daily Living Challenges dropped to a 7, and my Daily Living Pleasure increased to a 3, giving me a New World Order Daily Living Quotient of 2.33, which is in the "I can do this" range.
This last Saturday, I drove by Los Angeles' Best Chinese-style Restaurant near my home, which had completely shut down early in February. Lo and behold, there was a bright red banner out front:
Making a sharp right turn into the driveway leading to the Parking Lot, I parked and made a "bee-line" for the door. Dim Sum from Los Angeles' Best Chinese-Style Restaurant is available again!!! My Daily Living Pleasure shot up 2 points, to the Old World Order level of 5, giving me a Daily Living Quotient of 7/5 = 1.4.
Odd ain't it: the little things that can please us in the New World Order.
