Q. WHAT DAY IS THE "LORD'S DAY" ACCORDING TO SCRIPTURE?

A.
MATTHEW 12:8 [8], For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.

Which day is the Lord's Day? THE SABBATH DAY (MATTHEW 12:8; MARK 2:27-28)

God's WORD says that the SABBATH DAY IS THE LORD'S DAY!

There is NO scripture that says Sunday or the FIRST DAY of the week is the Lords Day. God's Word says the Lord's day is the Sabbath day. This is the day God rested on, he set apart and made a Holy day at the completion of the creation week and made a memorial for all mankind (Genesis 2:1-3; Exodus 20:8-11). Jesus is the God of creation and he is the Lord of the Sabbath day (Matthew 12:8; Mark 2:27-28)

Can you show from the scriptures alone that Sunday is "THE LORDS DAY" if not why not? If we cannot are we following man made teachings that break the commandments of God that JESUS warns us about in Matthew 15:3-9?

May God bless you all as you seek him through his Word.

If Saturday was the Lord's day, that would imply that God rested on his laurels, and did nothing further. He formed creation during the first six days and on the seventh day he rested, but he did nothing further of great significance. Saturday was named after the Roman god of agriculture, which is part of what helped to form civilization. This is when man is given more control and God could rest.

On Saturday, the earth was handed over to Satan. Saturday and Satan, both start with Sat. Satan was in charge of the earth during the Old Testament, while God rested; no large scale changes in creation. Satan was like a CEO of the earth, who reported to the chairman of the board, God, and had his ear. Read the book of Job. Satan has God doing his whim with Job until God snapped out of vacation mode.

Sunday implies the beginning of a new week; Sun instead Sat, and implies that God was no longer resting on his laurels. It symbolized a new cycle of creation, now connected to the son, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Jesus became the CEO and would get God involved, in further creation, via his Holy Spirit. The future was not yet written when the Old or New Testament was written. Sunday is a work in progress.

Hi wellwisher nice to meet you and welcome. The biblical times are different to our current times and names for the days of the week. Sunset Friday to Sunset Saturday our time has always been God's 4th commandment Sabbath *EXODUS 20:8-11. Even the catholic Church will tell you this... Our day names are not the same as the biblical names for the days of the week which simply follow the convention of GENESIS 1 and GENESIS 2. Which is simply day1, day 2, day 3, day 4, day 5, day 6 (preparation before Sabbath and Sabbath (day 7). You might find this interesting.

Hope this helps.

Actually, the Sabbath would correspond to the 7th day, or the 7th millennium, whereas God would rest and king David would rule for 1000 years (Rev 20:4 & Ezekiel 34:23 & 37:24-28). Sunday, the day of the sun god, would correspond to the 8th day, which would correspond to the time period after the millennium of the future, whereas Satan, the devil, the serpent, the sun god, and the beast and the false prophet would be cast into the lake of fire. (Rev 22:10) Of course, those who worshipped the sun god/devil, and were marked, would face graver circumstances (Revelation 19:20-21).

There are actually many different kinds of Sabbaths in the old testamant that can fall on any day of the week depending on the yearly cycle, but only the seventh day weekly Sabbath is God's 4th commandment that God blessed and set apart from all the other days of the week as a holy day of rest. God's 4th commandment is a part of God's 10 commandments that give us the knowledge of what sin is when broken *EXODUS 20:8-11; ROMANS 3:20; ROMANS 7:7; 1 JOHN 3:4 and if we knowingly break it just like anyone of God's 10 commandments we stand guilty before God of sin *JAMES 2:10-11.

Here are the different types of sabbaths in the old testament...

1. The Sabbaths of the Feast of unleavened bread (first and last day) that can fall on any day of the week *LEVITICUS 23:6-8
2. The Sabbath on the annual day of Atonement that can fall on any day of the week *LEVITICUS 23:27-32
3. The Sabbath on the annual Feast of Trumpets that can fall on any day of the week *LEVITICUS 23:24-25?
4. The Sabbath on the Feast of Booths that can fall on any day of the week *LEVITICUS 23:34-36
5. Feast of first fruits (first and last day) that can fall on any day of the week *LEVITICUS 23:39
6. The sabbaths (sabbaton plural) of holy convocations from the annual feast days *LEVITICUS 23:7-8; 21;24; 27; 35-36 that can fall on any days of the week
7. The Sabbath of the land (7 year single cycle) *LEVITICUS 25:2
8. The Sabbath of Jubilee - culminating of the 7x7 yearly cycles sabbaths *LEVITICUS 25:9-54
9. Or God's 4th commandment seventh day weekly Sabbath which is one of the 10 commandments that define sin when broken? *EXODUS 20:8-11 from GENESIS 2:1-3

Most of these sabbaths are ceremonial "shadow laws". Only God's 4th commandment weekly Sabbath is apart of Gods eternal law (10 Commandments).

As you say let's be honest dear friend. You posted this claiming I said...

I have never said such things. I simply said that God's 10 commandments are eternal and everlasting. Why I pulled you up on this is because God's 10 commandments are only a part of the covenant made at Horeb so your statement is false and misleading and not what I believe or is it biblical. Here is why. There are two parts to the old covenant. God's LAW (10 commandments that give us the knowledge of what sin is *ROMANS 3:20 and the "SHADOW laws" from the MOSAIC BOOK OF THE COVENANT *EXODUS 24:7; HEBREWS 10:1-12. God's LAW (10 commandments) that were written on the two tables of stone with God's own finger *EXODUS 32:16 which were the work of God alone and spoken directly by God to his poeple *EXODUS 20:1-17. While the Mosaic BOOK of the law was the work of MOSES directed by God, written in a book and spoken by MOSES *DEUTERONOMY 31:24; EXODUS 24:4-7.

It is the scriptures alone that teach God's LAW (10 commandments) are forever not me. They are the work of God alone and the spoken Word of God alone and the scriptures teach...

WAS THE 10 COMMANDMENTS THE WORK OF GOD AND THE WRITTING OF GOD ALONE?

EXODUS 32:16, And THE TABLES WHERE WORK OF GOD, AND THE WRITING WAS THE WRITING OF GOD. GRAVEN ON THE TABLES.

Yep... So if GOD MADE THE 10 COMMANDMENTS and they are the work of GOD are they forever?

ECCLESIASTES 3:14 [14], I KNOW WHATSOEVER GOD DOES IS SHALL BE FOREVER; nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God does it, that men should fear before him.

Are the 10 COMMANDMENTS the work of God and did God make them? Yep, so if God made them are they FOREVER according to the scriptures? You have a problem here don't you dear friend. You say no you do not believe the scriptures if you say yes why do you not obey God's 4th commandment.

DID GOD SPEAK THE 10 COMMANDMENTS?

EXODUS 20:1-17 [1], And GOD SPOKE ALL THESE WORDS SAYING...

DID GOD'S 10 COMMANDMENTS COME OUT OF THE MOUTH OF GOD? - Yep sure did.

MATTHEW 4:4 MAN DOES NOT LIVE BY BREAD ALONE BUT BY EVERY WORD THAT PROCEEDS OUT OF THE MOUTH OF GOD

All the scriptures provided dear friend I believe show that you do not understand what the old covenant is. If you do not understand what the old covenant is how can you understande what the new covenant is that the old points to?

God's LAW (10 commandments) which includes God's 4th commandment seventh day Sabbath has the same role it always has and that is to give us the knowledge of good and evil; Sin and Righteousness as shown in these new covenant scriptures *ROMANS 3:20; ROMANS 7:7; 1 JOHN 3:4 and if we knowingly break anyone of them we stand guilty before God of sin. Those who practice known unrepentant sin will not enter into the kingdom of heaven because they reject the gift of God's dear son and count the blood of the covenant an unholy thing and do dispite to the Spirit of God. *ROMANS 6:23; HEBREWS 10:26-31.

If you are honest of heart dear friend be like the faithful Bareans and see if these things be so. Don't follow man made teachings and traditions of men that break the commandments of God. JESUS warns us that this will only lead you away from God and his salvation *MATTHEW 15:3-9; JOHN 4:23-24.; REVELATION 18:1-5. We all need to be careful what we choose. God's Word I believe can be a blessing to those who receive it and a curse to those who do not.

May you receive God's Word and be blessed. Ignoring it does not make it disappear.

Hi 3rdAngel,
What you are missing is we are under a NEW covenant. God's word for us is written in the new covenant. That is what we have faith in. So we know what he expects of us, and what is sin. And if we break any of God's commands, it is sin. As a matter of fact whatsoever is not of faith is sin. If you think it is wrong to eat something, and you do it anyway - to you it is sin.

The law was a shadow of good things to come. You are trying to tell us to continue to keep the 4th commandment in the shadow way. The real sabbath rest hasn't gotten here yet. The sabbath we are waiting for is the eternal day of rest that will be here when he returns. They kept the sabbath in the shadow way. We are going to keep the real thing. Just like those under the shadow couldn't have kept the sabbath early, neither can we.

No dear TB, nothing is missed. All is spoken plainly for all to hear. How can there be shdows dear friend in somthing made when there was no sin? I believe your understanding of the scriptures are in error as there was no shadow laws when there is no sin when the Sabbath was made on the "seventh day" of the creation week. We are indeed in the new covenant now and God's LAW (10 commandments) have the same role they always have and that is to give us the knowledge of Good and Evil; Sin and Righteousness *ROMANS 3:20; ROMANS 7:7; 1 JOHN 3:4 and if we break anyone of them including God's 4th commandment *EXODUS 20:8-11 we stand guilty before God of sin *JAMES 2:10-11. It is time to leave BABYLON that great mother of harlots dear TB. JESUS is calling us all back to the pure Word of God. JESUS is the living Word of God and it is only through his Word that we can abide in him as we believe and follow what he says.

God's sheep hear his Voice (the Word). Those who do not hear do not follow and are not his Sheep.

I'm not in Babylon that great mother of harlots.
Exactly, but those who do not study Church history in any objective way are likely to slip into various forms of religious bigotry.

What they usually are doing is parroting what they've been taught, thus trying to get them to actually do some serious objective studying is all too often in vain, because if they realize they're wrong even on one important item their "house of cards" may collapse.

IOW, as Goebbel's said, tell the big LIE often enough and people will come to accept it.

Then perhaps you should study Church History dear Metis

I see and why is that? I believe you make statements sometimes dear friend that you do not know what youare talking about. The words that I speak unto you they are Spirit and they are life but close your ears and eyes so you do not hear and see. This is what ISAIAH says to your fathers. How are you any different?

God's WORD says that the SABBATH DAY IS THE LORD'S DAY!

There is NO scripture that says Sunday or the FIRST DAY of the week is the Lords Day. God's Word says the Lord's day is the Sabbath day. There is NO scripture that says Sunday or the FIRST DAY of the week is the Lords Day.
Is that right?
What then is the first day?
How many days do we have in a week?

july-2020-calendar-monthly-ver-font-large-center.png

Sunday is the first day
We have seven (7) days in a week making Saturday the 7th day of the week.
If that is what the calendar says, how about the Bible?

1 Corinthians 16:2 New International Version (NIV)
On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with your income, saving it up, so that when I come no collections will have to be made.

The NIV mentions "first day of every week" what is the first day of every week? Is it Monday? I don't think so because that would make Sunday the last day of every week. Just to be sure, let us look at other translations of the Bible

1 Corinthians 16:2 Contemporary English Version (CEV)
That is, each Sunday each of you must put aside part of what you have earned. If you do this, you won’t have to take up a collection when I come.

1 Corinthians 16:2 Expanded Bible (EXB)
On the first day of every week [C Sunday], each one of you should put aside money ·as you have been blessed [or what you can afford; L whatever one prospers]. Save it up so you will not have to collect money after I come.

1 Corinthians 16:2 GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)
Every Sunday each of you should set aside some of your money and save it. Then money won’t have to be collected when I come.

1 Corinthians 16:2 Good News Translation (GNT)
Every Sunday each of you must put aside some money, in proportion to what you have earned, and save it up, so that there will be no need to collect money when I come.

So does the scripture say that Sunday is the first day of the week?

Sunday is not the second day of the week either.

But whatever it is Sabbath is for the Israelites ONLY.
It is exclusive for the people whom God freed from slavery in Egypt.
It is not for Americans, not for China, not for Japanese, not for the EU and not for Asians.
For Israelites ONLY.

If you are not an Israelite and observe the Sabbath - that is your own choosing but its for Israelites only.
Israelites means you are a citizen of Ancient Israel. Even Benjamin Netanyahu [PM of today's Israel] cannot even be called an Israelite, but an Israeli.

ZZzzz .... Who said Sunday is the second day of the week? Here let me post what I said to you again...
3rdAngel said: There is NO scripture that says Sunday or the FIRST DAY of the week is the Lords Day.

Now where in anything I have written did I ever write anywhere that Sunday is not the first day of the week or as you post the second day of the week (either)? If no one has said these things why are you pretending they have? No where in any of the above that I have written, does it say anywhere that Sunday is not the first day of the week? Perhaps you need to take your time reading what is being posted before responding ?

I believe where your argument falls down according to the scrioptures is that God's ISRAEL according to the new covenant is all those who believe and follow Gods' Word. According to Gods' Word in the new covenant there is no more JEW or gentile believers ROMANS 3:28-29. All are one in Christ. God's ISRAEL is not those of the flesh but of the Spirit *ROMANS 9:6-8, gentiles are now grafted in *ROMANS 11:13-27. If you are not a part of God's ISRAEL you have no part in the new covenant promise *HEBREWS 8:10-12. More detailed scripture response on God's ISRAEL in the old and new covenants here if anyone is interested.

Hope this is helpful :)
