I received this article in my e-mail a few days ago and I loved the simplicity of it, so I wanted to share it.

Baha’u’llah further explained that “the soul is a sign of God, a heavenly gem whose reality the most learned of men hath failed to grasp, and whose mystery no mind, however acute, can ever hope to unravel. It is the first among all created things to declare the excellence of its Creator, the first to recognize His glory, to cleave to His truth, and to bow down in adoration before Him. If it be faithful to God, it will reflect His light, and will, eventually, return unto Him. If it fail, however, in its allegiance to its Creator, it will become a victim to self and passion, and will, in the end, sink in their depths.”

Take time to be alone. Meditate profoundly and pray daily. Focus on serving your community and contributing to the betterment of the world. You are not a body with a soul. You are a soul that temporarily has an association with a body.

But we should never ever allow our body, family, or possessions to come between us and our souls.

The spiritual path practiced all over the world necessarily includes detachment as a goal. Buddhism in particular has that as part of the "four noble truths" and the life of the Buddha.

Thus to me, the "four wives" story is not really about death but about our attitude while living and from that perspective very familiar to me.

Excellent word salad! I cannot think of anyone doing it better than Bahaollah.
No problem with taking time to be alone or "focus on serving your community".
Forget about Soul, God. This is religious imagery. People claiming to be representatives of God / Allah need them, none else.
I think our abilities and idiosyncrasies will accompany us
Nothing accompanies us, Lyndon, other than the cloth that covers the body.
I'm definitely going to be wearing underwear
It is not required in our community. Just wrap up in one piece of plain white cotton cloth. Hindu cremation is comparatively very economical, just about 100 USD.
Average cost of a funeral in US: 7,000 USD

Which is all of who we are, less our physical body.

I whole heartedly agree.

You are body, soul and spirit. Your body is created from the universal elements, and it is activated by the universal soul, which is the divine animating principle that pervades the entire universal body, activating everything within the universe, and it is to the universal soul=LIFE-FORCE, that all information or SPIRIT, is gathered.

If that body in which your parental spirit dwells, within the innermost sanctuary, behind the veil of the flesh, were born without the sense of sight, hearing, smell, taste, touch, etc, then no information whatsoever could be taken into the brain, and “YOU” who are spirit [Gathered information] could never have begun to develop and the living body, in which the parental spirit dwells, would soon die, never having developed a personality or “CONTROLLING GODHEAD” to that body, which godhead should be an obedient servant to “WHO YOU ARE.”

Then of the Thee in Me who works behind The veil,
I lifted up my hands to find A lamp amid the Darkness;
and I heard, As from Without----
“The Me within Thee is blind.”----- By Omar Khayyam.

When the body in which you [the mind] are being formed, dies, [This is the first death] and your body of “skin, flesh, muscle, blood, bone, brain matter etc, etc,” has returned to the universal elements from which it was created, all that remains, is a shadow or rather, a facsimile of YOU, the mind or spirit, that has been imprinted into the universal life force or soul, which will be returned to he who gave it, [The collective consciousness of all that exists] from which it will be resurrected in this, or perhaps the next cycle of universal activity. Unless of course, the information=spirit that is “YOU” is then divided from the universal life-force, which is the second death. For the spirit=information that is you, can be divided from the universal soul. Hebrews 4: 12.---------“For the word of God is alive and active, sharper than any two edged sword. It cuts all the way through to the division of the soul and spirit.”

The souls from which the spirits have been divided which is the 'SECOND' death, will the be given new bodies in which to develop new minds.

This assumes that there is an afterlife.....but the Bible does not subscribe to that idea at all.

It gives us two opposites...life and death. It does not ever speak of a spiritual part of humans that survives death, so if we subscribe to the Bible's teachings of a resurrection (i.e. a return to this life on a cleansed earth under the rulership of God's Kingdom) then we will will be raised as we were when we died, only we will have no illnesses or diseases. All of the miracles that Jesus performed when he was on earth showed us how it will be in the "new earth" (2 Peter 3:13) because this is where God designed us to live...forever. Jesus cured every kind of sickness and deformity.....he raised the dead and returned them to their families...but he did not make the old young again, so in the new world to come, the old will grow young again.

The rule of God's Kingdom will see to it that all resurrected ones will be given an education and a choice to bring their lives into harmony with God's will during the 1,000 years of Christ's reign.

What we lost in the beginning, is returned at the end...lessons learned and precedents set for all time to come.

What Will We Carry Into the Afterlife?

Jeff Ramey • Jun 30, 2020 • Spirituality

The views expressed in our content reflect individual perspectives and do not represent the official views of the Baha'i Faith.

Here’s a short story to reflect on the purpose of this life:

Once upon a time, there was a man with four wives. The man knew the end of his life was approaching, so he summoned his wives to his bedside to ask them if any of them would accompany him into the next world, because he was quite frightened of the prospect of making that journey alone.

He asked his first wife, whom he had always loved for her beauty, but she replied that she was unable to accompany him on his journey.

He then asked his second wife, who had always been there to support him. But she replied that she simply could not abandon this world.

Next, he asked his third wife, who had gained much wealth, fame, and success. But she replied that no, she would not end her life for his benefit.

Last of all, the man spoke to his fourth wife. She had always been humble and generous to the people around her. When he asked her if she would accompany him, without even a moment’s hesitation, she replied yes. He realized that he would have given her much more attention than he had if he had known how faithful she was. Thus, together, they slipped the surly bonds of this world in the wee hours of the morning.

There’s a moral to this story. You see, we all have four “spouses” of a sort. The first “wife” is our own physical body. When we are young, we are full of vitality and dreams for the future. We engage in sports and win or lose, we give it our best. On one hand, we are a part of the universe.

But on the other hand, youth is very short, and while we may spend money on ourselves, buying clothing, getting a good education, none of this can accompany us into the next world.

The second wife symbolizes our family. We love them, we trust them, but the farthest they can go with us is to our funeral — although we may be reunited in the next world once they also leave this life.

His third wife symbolizes material possessions. We may spend our lives acquiring the latest smartphone, nice cars, or big houses, but in the end, none of them will accompany us into the next world. Instead, they will be divided among others.

The fourth wife symbolizes the soul. We may often ignore our soul, distracted by the material things around us, but it is the only thing that will accompany us into the afterlife. The Baha’i Writings explain the relationship between our material reality and our spiritual reality. Abdu’l-Baha, the son of Baha’u’llah, the prophet and founder of the Baha’i Faith, wrote:

Man has two powers, and his development two aspects. One power is connected with the material world and by it he is capable of material advancement. The other power is spiritual and through its development his inner, potential nature is awakened. These powers are like two wings. Both must be developed, for flight is impossible with one wing.

We must strive unceasingly and without rest to accomplish the development of the spiritual nature in man, and endeavor with tireless energy to advance humanity toward the nobility of its true and intended station. For the body of man is accidental; it is of no importance. The time of its disintegration will inevitably come. But the spirit of man is essential and therefore eternal. It is a divine bounty. It is the effulgence of the Sun of Reality and therefore of greater importance than the physical body.

There is nothing wrong with enjoying life. Care for your body and keep it healthy, for it is the vehicle for your soul. There is nothing wrong with loving your family; cherish them. Enjoy your possessions; care for them and enjoy the comfort they provide. But we should never ever allow our body, family, or possessions to come between us and our souls.

Most stories that I read about spirit after wards, says that the spirit is complete love, even though the human personality was a mean s.o.b. in life.

Which would mean if you inherit what you never were a human then humans ego problems demonstrate they find it difficult in letting go of the lower self.

Why false ownership is expressed and placed in many human beliefs.

I had an eternal being spirit allow me to know it existed, it was not male and it was not female and was by my owned references just purely loving, without any purposeful meaning other than to allow me to know it. So if it did not communicate purposeful meaning, it would in fact imply what a lot of medium psychics say.....it is our highest self as a spirit and not as a human. Was always in the eternal and was just communicating to the human body/self.

I also was taught that as all physical life is recorded, the eternal can use and communicate to a human deceased yet lived recording to speak to us.

Correct there is life in the body and the death of that body, but those who have lived GOOD LIVES find peace and rest in death. All have sinned and all must die once and go off into judgement. What is it, that goes off to be judged? certainly not the body that has decomposed and returned to the elements from which it was created, and flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, as you seem to believe..

At death the body is "dead" but the soul is free from the body now becoming a spirit. Death is not real, it is nothing, has no power, and totally impossible. And energy is neither created nor destroyed, it only transforms into a finite amount of things, like a human becoming an angel.

Every idea is said by a living human.

Science says it know everything without owning claim to the actual physicality of it.

Isn't science today studying NDE claiming it will find God in the human death, based on all human spiritual experiences about seeing the light and going into the light?

When in fact as you die the chemical brain heats up as the conditions changes to bio chemistry in the blood and organs changes as you die?

If you live a good life, then feed back to your life conscious self is interactive.

Is a human who owns behaviour conditions from chemical imbalances not good by your human description of acceptable behaviour? Which is being judgemental as a conscious natural spiritual advice.

For in my psyche it would as a spiritually taught thinking self. I would state...the behaviour is acceptable to the body living the behaviour for it is inherent to sex.

Then a sick minded human would claim sex was evil, as based on his own male want of originally not wanting to be a human trapped on Earth due to UFO radiation history.....reason why he came back to reincarnate, after he believed he had destroyed all life on Earth with his origin sciences.

What you all seem to overlook, historically as he died in UFO radiation war on God O Earth for doing evil occultism he thought we were all being destroyed.

He was surprised when his baby life to adult DNA healed and returned as that science self...why he continues today to finish us off by his claim and God does not exist....as his own science male human confession. For it is his basic want.

Thanks for sharing your beliefs...
This is what I believe happens to the body and the spirit when we die:

421. When the body is no longer able to perform the bodily functions in the natural world that correspond to the spirit’s thoughts and affections, which the spirit has from the spiritual world, man is said to die. This takes place when the respiration of the lungs and the beatings of the heart cease. But the man does not die; he is merely separated from the bodily part that was of use to him in the world, while the man himself continues to live. It is said that the man himself continues to live since man is not a man because of his body but because of his spirit, for it is the spirit that thinks in man, and thought with affection is what constitutes man. Evidently, then, the death of man is merely his passing from one world into another. And this is why in the Word in its internal sense “death” signifies resurrection and continuation of life. Heaven and Hell, p. 351
