Central West End couple explains why they pointed guns at protesters who demanded Krewson's resignation

ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -- A husband and wife made national news when photos captured them pointing guns at protesters Sunday night outside of their Central West End home.

During the protest, images and videos showed Mark McCloskey, 63, holding a rifle and his wife Patricia McCloskey, 61, pointing a handgun at the crowd of about 300 protesters around 7:30 p.m.

The McCloskeys said they were “in fear for our lives” and that’s why they pulled the guns out.

“It was like the storming of the Bastille, the gate came down and a large crowd of angry, aggressive people poured through,” Mark McCloskey said. “I was terrified that we’d be murdered within seconds. Our house would be burned down, our pets would be killed.”

Mark said they called 911 and grabbed their guns as they heard the crowd approaching their private, gated community on Portland Place.

The couple stated that they received death threats. Their attorney said in statement that the couple actually supports Black Lives Matter and the cause of the protesters.

The couple also claims to have received death threats from the crowd.

“One fellow standing right in front of me pulled out two pistol magazines, clicked them together and said you’re next. That was the first death threat we got that night,” Mark McCloskey said.

In a separate statement from their attorney, the McCloskeys said they support the Black Lives Matter movement and that “peaceful protesters were not the subject of scorn or disdain by the McCloskeys. To the contrary, they were expecting and supportive of the message of the protesters,” the statement reads.

The protest organizer said that the protests were non-violent and no threats were made.

Rasheen Aldridge helped lead the protest organized by a group called ‘Expect Us.’ He said protesters were peaceful and no threats were ever made.

When asked why the group marched on private property, Aldridge said, “Just like in many disobedient protests, even in the 60s, you break laws, make people feel uncomfortable. We’re not doing anything where we’re hurting anyone or putting anyone in danger.”

But this couple was scared enough to start brandishing firearms.

I guess everyone managed to keep their cool and nobody got shot, but who can say what might happen the next time, or the next time after that?

Where are we headed?

The organizer could only know about their own actions.
Anyone else could've made threats.
But these lawyers (both gun wielders are) handled it poorly.

Do you think that other gated communities might look at this incident and consider beefing up their own security?

Well, they claimed that someone pointed weapons at them and threatened them, but it's hard to say who threatened whom first. I guess this couple could be lying, but it remains to be seen whether they'll be charged with any crimes. It certainly doesn't look good, with the pictures of them standing there with their weapons.

Skanky Old Mongrel!
Well, I guess they couldn't pass up a great photo opportunity.

It amazes us here in the UK how anybody can take an assault rifle out in the a public place and then point it at anybody. All assault rifles and pistols are banned outright. :)

If the group marches on private property I would point the firearm at them myself. You just don't cross a particular line.

Crossing private property, you're authorized to use lethal Force if it's necessary.

Good thing it wasn't for the protesters sake.

No, it's not, or they wouldn't be doing it, lol.

You can actually carry firearms on any private property you own and on any property you have permission from the owner to do so, provided they're openly displayed. The law is weird with concealment, but with open carry it's clear. Secondly, they called the police and the gated community security (where they live... again they were on a private road/entrance, not the same as being in the public) and neither came. I don't blame them, but it looks like some uppity Dem prosecutors are going to try to get them. Considering it was 500 versus 2, I think the firearms were a reasonable way to deal with it. Before they got the guns the "peaceful protest" threatened their lives, home, and their pets with murder... So, yeah...

Anyway, if any of you lefties think these guys are on your side - they're not. Anyone, they feel like declaring a fascist is, and that includes anyone that happened to accidentally get in their way like these people. Left eating their own, again... The couple was not only life Democrats, donors to BLM, and whatnot, but also trial attorneys specializing in cases where they defended people of color against injustice. These BLM people are complete morons and their rage is blind.

No they handled it wisely.

If people are getting emboldened enough to start entering ones private property, then it's high time to put the brakes on it and put a stop to it with whatever means are necessary.

If this had been on public property I would have agreed with you.
