Question to theists regarding creation

For theists:
For those who believe that God or gods created this universe, my question is
Is the essence of the universe same or different from the essence of God?
Did God create a new essence with which the stuff of the universe was made?
And what about our essence? Is it the same as that of the universe or different from it?

I’m undecided as to whether God is a creator God because I don’t know how God interacts with nature.

But I believe that the material of the universe is too crude to be called God.

Our essence is spiritual in my beliefs not physical so I would say that it is different to the universe which I consider to be entirely physical in nature.

Kind regards :)

I believe that only God himself can answer those questions with any degree of certainty, that we can only speculate and that it will forever remain a mystery to us all.

Same. They only differ in quality. See Hesiod's ages. :)

Did God create a new essence with which the stuff of the universe was made?
No.

And what about our essence? Is it the same as that of the universe or different from it?
We are the universe. Same essence. :)

Purely hypothetical.

I think it is different. Light and sound wave emanated from God and matter consists of both.

I think that when God said "Let there be light" - within that light was all the information that was needed to begin the process of driving the material world into existence - much like DNA has the information to create our bodies.

Yet, they are emanating from the spiritual world of which God is a spirit,

Purely hypothetical

God's essence is different from creation. But He created all things to reflect one of His attributes. He created human to potentially reflect all His attributes, though that depends on our effort to purify the soul.

In my Advaita (non-dual=God and creation are not-two) philosophy it is all Brahman/God. The universe is a thought-form of God and not ultimately real (Maya=Illusion).

Can two entities having different essences have similar attributes? Can numbers have mass, for example.

@ Sayak, many Hindus believe that. The followers of Dvaita (Duality). And (as the word that Hindu forum uses), 'village Hindus', those who are not much into philosophies.
In my universe, nothing other than Brahman exists. But then, my Brahman is not a God, it is the stuff of the universe.
I am a strong atheist.

My Master warns us "Beware what you ask God, he might give it, you might not like it ... be very specific"

Once I prayed to my Master to explain Creation to me. My Master came into my dream and explained it. It was very interesting
But when I woke up, all info was erased from my memory (normally I am good at remembering dreams).

Next time I should pray: Please explain XXX to me, and make sure I remember for the rest of my existence

But since this day the desire to speculate about Creation has kind of vanished too:)

Yes, the Sun and a Mirror. The image of the Sun in the Mirror have same attributes as then Sun (to a lesser extent). But the essence of Sun is different from the Mirror.

From Meher Baba, first, words can't really describe reality which is beyond the intellect. But for an intellectual frame of reference, there are "10 States of God":
  • God in Beyond-Beyond
  • God in Beyond
  • God as Emanator, Sustainer and Dissolver
  • God as Embodied Soul
  • God as Soul in the State of Evolution
  • God as Human Soul in the State of Reincarnation
  • God in The State of Spiritually Advanced Souls
  • God as The Divinely Absorbed
  • God as Liberated Incarnate Soul
  • God as Man-God and God-Man

Same and different. I’m Vishistadvaitin... all diversity subsumed to and generated from a single unit. The same in quality but not quantity. Or as Achintya-Bheda-Abheda posits, inconceivable sameness and difference.

sarvam khalvidam brahma - “all this verily is Brahman”.
“With a single fragment of My power I pervade and support this entire universe.” Bhagavad Gita 10.42

So yeah, the same yet different. Trippy! :D

It’s all from energy.....everything is energy, just in different forms. Atomic, radiant, thermal, etc.

I believe that the gods and creation are made of similar stuff, but not identical stuff. They are both energetic reflections of each other, and only with both, is reality whole.

I have often been intrigued by this word "essence" because I cannot find it mentioned anywhere in our scripture as Christians. So I looked it up and it means ....
"the intrinsic nature or indispensable quality of something, especially something abstract, which determines its character."....it is also described as..."an extract or concentrate obtained from a plant or other matter".

So I think you summed that up well. If the Creator is pure energy, in a form unknown to human experience, then that would explain why he has always existed (as energy has always existed) and why energy can create matter.

For those who believe that God or gods created this universe, my question is
Is the essence of the universe same or different from the essence of God?

It doesn't appear to be the same, since the thing created is always inferior to its creator.

Did God create a new essence with which the stuff of the universe was made?

God created the building blocks in matter that explains the existence of all other things. It also explains why God had to inject something into that matter, which of its own accord, it cannot produce...."life".

And what about our essence? Is it the same as that of the universe or different from it?

Matter can be living or non living, but all made of the same molecules in different structures.
Living matter can reproduce by mechanisms that are basically automatic....no creature has to plan to be reproductive.....they are following a program installed by their Creator. Its in their DNA to perpetuate the life that God gave them.

I do not believe that God is a material Being, but as a pure dynamic and unlimited energy source, I believe that this, coupled with unmatched intelligence is what led to to become the Creator.

You’re right....

“Highly respected scholar and Catholic priest John L. McKenzie, S.J., in his Dictionary of the Bible, says: “The trinity of persons within the unity of nature is defined in terms of ‘person’ and ‘nature’ which are Gk (Greek) philosophical terms; actually the terms do not appear in the Bible. The trinitarian definitions arose as the result of long controversies in which these terms and others such as ‘essence’ and ‘substance’ were erroneously applied to God by some theologians.”—(Italics and bold type are mine.) (New York, 1965), p. 899.”

...

Bible tells God is spirit. I think it is different essence than matter and exists in different level.

God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.

God created the universe out of God's essence. Everything is "God-stuff."
Human beings, rocks, rivers, dirt, flowers, clams -- all are made out of the same material as the stars.
