The police in many states are kneeling in solidarity with protesters...

...is a PR stunt!!! Don't be fooled by it! The Army calls this tactic Intelligence Preparation of the Battlefield, or Reputation Management. This controls the reputation of groups, shapes public perception, control media narrative, and integration with the "enemy" develops target value. It paint's them as the "good guys".

Hours and even in minutes of these pictures being taken these very same cops viciously attacked the very same protesters they were kneeling with.

Or...just maybe...they are kneeling in support of Derek Chauvin? After all, he was kneeling too...

Here is what these same cops are doing right after kneeling...

The police have been doing that here in Colorado Springs. To put that in context, there was a documentary only about five years ago on the Colorado Springs' Police Department and its racially biased enforcement of the laws.

Why is it I find myself disinclined to trust a website called "Truth Out"?

Show me a link to a reputable news source and I'll take this seriously.

Any global generality is false because people are people. I'm absolutely sure that some cops are responding from the heart. There are no doubt some situations where they're doing it to defuse tension and that's also fine with me.

Kangaroo Feathers

Yea, it is written in the Book of Cyril...
There's lots of stories of cops kneeling for the token photo OP, then going right back to bashing and tear gassing protesters shortly afterwards. Maybe I'm being overly cynical, but this seems more to do with image management rather than any sincere attempt at mediation.

But maybe, and hopefully, it's for real. After all, there are some people who do have empathy and are willing to use it.
Thank you for your winning comment -- it is stupid of us to forget that police are human, too. And there are a lot of very decent police officers out there, who really want to do well by their communities.

So long as we insist on "us versus them," or striking attitudes, or manning our own forts -- there's no way forward.
