While I don't consider his statements profound, I think the former President's statements were classy:

I do consider W Bush a good President if he could have just gotten over the wars. He had a decent sense of humor that sometimes showed in his speeches and how he flubbed up some words and famous sayings, then kind of laughed with the crowd.

It is funny how hindsight places someone in a more positive light. Many people hated Bush but now the question is:

Who would you prefer as president? Trump, Obama or Bush?

He was one of the worst presidents that we've had, until this one. He was an intellectual weakling who was constantly being manipulated by Dick Cheney into doing things that were terrible for the country. He was a loyal toady for every corporate conglomerate and billionaire crony that ever paid he and his republican pals a bribe. And like his nasty, mean-spirited father, and his nasty-mean-spirited brother, he never met a poor person he didn't blame and despise for being poor. Just like Donald Trump does. His arrogance and self-righteousness as a 'super Christian' made him deaf, dumb, and blind.

Well, after seeing some of the comments, I may eventually revise some of my statements to say I think he is a likeable guy... I have seen him recently on TV at baseball games etc, well last year... but that he isn't really fit to run the country and try to get us out of this mess.

He may well be a likable guy in person. Many terrible political leaders aren't terrible because they were horrible people in private (although some definitely were), and some leaders who established good and sound policies weren't the nicest people to those around them.

And even Hitler was nice to his dog, after all.

The opinions of the war criminal who should be in prison if there were true justice in the U.S. shouldn't be given any weight or attention. He was worse than Trump going by sheer facts--for all of Trump's insanity, he hasn't started two wars and killed hundreds of thousands of foreigners needlessly.

Bush was arguably the most murderous president in the developed world in the last three or four decades. That's quite an accomplishment that should be enough to guarantee his silence in any self-respecting nation.

Not to us in the Middle East who experienced over a decade of deaths and military aggression as a result of Bush's policies.

What I found interesting about this article ( thank you for posting it BTW ) is the difference between GW's message and Obama's message.

GW's statement was looking backward at "American Ideals". Obama's statement was looking forward towards a "New Normal".

What GW doesn't know is that to the protesters the word America and American equate to "Colonial America" and "Colonial American Ideals". Intentional or not, Obama's message speaks more to the heart and soul of the protester who seeks institutional change.

I never liked Bush, but I do agree in part with his statement that "It is time for America to examine our tragic failures." That's been long overdue for decades. He had 8 years to examine America's failures. So did Clinton and Obama.

But unfortunately, they had a higher priority of making the rich richer and the poor poorer. It's a little late for any of them to come forth and say "Oh, we want to examine our tragic failures now."

What little value such an 11th hour examination might have had is lost because I doubt that any of these people have the faintest clue as to what, exactly, our tragic failures have been. Do they even have the slightest idea as to where America went wrong and how to fix it?

A man who launched long and divisive wars, who suggested shopping as a way for the nation to heal itself, and he's going to talk about unity and healing the nation? Did he forget the shoes thrown at him?
