I hope you're all staying safe in these tough times. I'm referring to the protests and riots, not just the pandemic.

Best wishes for the U.S. and its citizens. Hopefully the country will come out of this situation stronger and more compassionate.

I went to a very peaceful, local protest yesterday. People were 6 feet (2 meters) apart and masked. We marched (walked) around a three block area, made our point, and dispersed.

Local cases of COVID are still increasing, but I'm in a smaller town, so the numbers are not as bad as 30 miles(50 km) closer tot he city.

Well it's not the first riot and won't be the last. I surely do hope we come out stronger and more compassionate because it's pretty clear people are getting to the end of the ropes. First the virus, and now this.

I think we all can agree that it's high time to put better quality people in charge.

As an American I can tell you 99.999% of us are not threatened by any protests and riots. You seem to be experiencing a media-caused distortion of reality. Probably similar things happen with us Americans when we hear of disturbances in other countries.

We live in a media-distorted reality.

Not all that distorted. I live 25 miles from south Minneapolis and there are curfews out here because of what is happening there.

I suppose numerically most Americans are not caught up in protests but this Boston University map shows how widespread it all is.

To me there's a lesson staring me in the face when it comes to breaking the cycle. And that applies to police brutality, out of control rioting, fights over pandemic measures, economic turmoil and all the rest:

Network media is a whore for emotionally laden stories and keeps playing that note until it actually distorts and changes reality.

Racial harmony took a unnecessary real turn backwards this week because of it.
