Is Biden Really A Racist or Just Stupid?

Let us not forget in what high esteem Joe held his President:

Biden famously said in the New York Observer, “I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy. I mean, that’s a storybook, man.”

Ha ha ha,
Oh wait.....
You're serious!

You see, I'm what some may call a thinking man.

Good news! I do believe, Father Heathen, I have identified the medical cause of your misery and unhappiness!

Consequently, I am rushing you by 'overnight' a prescription for 144 cases of bourbon. Please take a bottle a day along with 2 aspirin until your symptoms are no longer present.

We may have caught this in time that you will not need hospitalization at Tony's Bar and Grill.

All the best,

Dr. Sunstone

A Biden Problem: Foot in Mouth"
I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy. I mean, that's a storybook, man."

Biden explains Indian-American remarks
"you cannot go to a 7-Eleven or a Dunkin' Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent."

Biden accused of making racist comment with ‘you ain’t black’ retort
“You got more questions. If you have a problem figuring out if you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t black.”

Cory Booker takes aim at Joe Biden's 'hoodie' language about race
"We've got to recognize that the kid wearing a hoodie may very well be the next poet laureate and not a gangbanger,"
Both candidates in the race right now are racists. You get to choose between the racist who makes boneheaded comments occasionally and the racist who courts white supremacists and locks brown people up in concentration camps.

How are you suggesting that a candidate's racism should factor into a voter's decision?

In fairness, I was considering making a thread about the "you ain't black" comment, because I do consider it monumentally politically stupid and a symptom of a larger issue. Democrats, especially the establishment types, too often taken voters for granted, and attempt to guilt and shame people into voting for them, as though people owe them a vote. No one owes anybody a vote. Votes must be earned. If Biden wants to win this thing, he can't take anybody for granted, even his base.

I say Biden is low on social skills & inhibition.

How many of us, I wonder, could spend so very much communicating with others on complex topics, often off the tops of our heads without time to consider and revise -- and NOT make the occasional dumb blunder?

Speaking only for myself -- I certainly could not.

But I also can't help but notice something else. When Joe Biden does make a dumb blunder, and is aware of it (as with the "you ain't black" remark of a day or 2 ago), he immediately apologizes, and does so with a good heart.

When was the last time anybody heard Trump apologize?

Doesn't this just prove that Biden is a successful straight shooter who isn't afraid to "tell it like it is"?

Tom

I was trying to make the point of how old and how out of touch Mr. Biden happens to be with taking the black voters for granted.

I agree that it was politically stupid.
But the real problem is that it shows his views on race.

Btw, it won't affect my vote for or against him.
Both of the major contenders have major personal shortcomings.
(I'm undecided.)
I'll judge the likely effects he'll have in office when the time comes.

Now that is an astute comment.

I think vote shaming has been instrumental in getting us to this wonderful place that we are presently at.

A person actually earning the vote? Egads, it makes me wonder if that incredibly novel idea will ever come back?

But you didn't.
Not to me.

My take on Biden's mistake is that he assumed that black people are capable of distinguishing between the candidate that valiantly served under a black president and the candidate who openly claimed that the black president must have been born in Africa.

Yeah, I think that people who support Donald "Birther" Trump are, at best, oreos. Black on the outside, but white on the inside.

Sorry if I don't live up to your politically correct standards of speech. But like Trump and Biden I will say what I think, even if you feel "micro-agression" and need to go cry in a safe place.

He seems to project racist comments. I don't know if he's stupid, as much as he is unaware of what he's saying (which could be worse). I'm surprised he is the ''cream that has risen to the top'' in the Democratic party.

I actually like when ole' Biden speaks out from his basement, cause this just alienates more and more of his prospective supporters. ...:)

Do you think Obama was stupid?

He did pick Biden as his running mate.
As far as I can tell, they worked well together. The economy and federal budget improved greatly. Trade was doing well. We were at peace with Iran.

I don't understand why a few tiny video clips suddenly make Biden stupid and racist. There're years of history to look at.

Some of us care more about the USA and the human race than partisan politics.

I understand that you aren't one of us.

He doesn’t seem like that guy, anymore. The comment he made about Obama back then though was racist, to me. You can support Biden without me having to. That doesn’t mean I support Trump. We need to stop thinking that politics begin and end with this two party system.

The "years of history to look at" includes plenty of problematic acts on his part... such as his efforts against the integration of schools in the 70s.

Will Black Voters Still Love Biden When They Remember Who He Was?

(Which was around the same time that Trump was getting into trouble for refusing to rent to black tenants)

I don't think Biden is stupid. Whatever issues he may be going through at present, it's not due to stupidity or even that he's racist. Maybe he's just worn out or suffering some sort of strain.

But as I mentioned in another thread, this is going to be one of the most ridiculous elections in US history. One candidate is losing his marbles, while the other never had any to begin with.

Why?
Or why not?

He did do a great deal to improve the USA.

The comment he made about Obama back then though was racist, to me.
Why?
Obama was the first "black" president. He beat Clinton and McCain. This was, to me, a BFD. Obama picked Biden as running mate, and things worked out.

You can support Biden without me having to.

Unfortunately, due to the USA presidential system, your choices are
Biden
Trump
Whoever wins

Do whatever you think best when voting, but if you want more choices than that you'll have to get more involved in the political process.
