What does it mean to be an expert?

Spirit of Light

Be who ever you want
When it comes to religion/Cultivation What in your understanding does it mean to be an expert?
What does it take to become an expert?

PS: this thread is not an attack on the New member @JW Fan :) but my question did arise from the New member's OP:)

A person who has deep knowledge about a certain field or topic? Isn't it also sort of relative because different people have different levels of expertise? Where does the point of being an expert start?

I do agree that being an expert is not given just to one set of skilled people. it does come in levels of expert too :)'

I am also thinking to self proclame as an expert is a bit dangeroues, often it is other people who see you as expert because of your knowledge or wisdm about a field :)

in music for example 10.000 hours of practice is seen as expert level, but it does not say everyone who practice 10.000 hours truly become an expert :)

I know how easy it is to believe that one has become an expert in spiritual life, I once thought that about my self, but what truly happend was that i was so full of my self that i ignored all the sign that i was a fool :)
When realizing i was no expert i understood how little I actually understood within spiritual life.

It is a real blow to the ego to realize that one had become a fool :)

Do you believe it was infected by virus  so he had to use a anti-virus program

I did not know that there was a virus that could cause his specific mental problems.
but you can never tell?
Perhaps his mix of disinfectant and Anti Malarial drugs will be a winner.... for us.

That was the answer that immediately sprung to mind:
"10,000 hours of serious practice."

It also helps to have made a lot of errors. As the saying goes: Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want.
That's why scientists get exited when an experiment doesn't turn out as expected. That's the moment when new insight is to be gained.

But how do you make a "religious error"? Is there a definition of what is right?

According to the BBC, and other sources, a
'Global study to test if either chloroquine or hydroxychloroquine can prevent COVID-19 in vital frontline healthcare workers will open to UK participants at hospital sites in Brighton and Oxford today.'

Perhaps Trump is ahead of the game. ;)

Good question.

I would think that years of scholarly studies and recognition among one's peers could qualify one to be an expert.

I think certain personal experiences could potentially qualify one as well. What I mean by this is that someone who has visited the moon could qualify one as an expert on what traveling to the moon is like moreso than someone who has spent their lifetime studying the moon and travelling in a space craft.

An 'expert', in my opinion, is someone fools fear, hate, and disdain because -- unlike them -- he or she knows so much on a particular topic, he or she knows how little they themselves know.

You take a fool, though, they always think it's the expert who is the fool because they themselves think they know so much more about the topic than they honestly do.

Of course, many people who claim to be experts, are not, for while true expertise tends to make you modest, false expertise tends to make you arrogant.

Just my 2 cents. Your own mileage may vary.
