Dear Mr. President:

Thousands of physicians in all specialties and from all States would like to express our gratitude for your leadership. We write to you today to express our alarm over the exponentially growing negative health consequences of the national shutdown.

In medical terms, the shutdown was a mass casualty incident.

During a mass casualty incident, victims are immediately triaged to black, red, yellow, or green. The first group, triage level black, includes those who require too many resources to save during a mass crisis. The red group has severe injuries that are survivable with treatment, the yellow group has serious injuries that are not immediately life threatening, and the green group has minor injuries.

The red group receives highest priority. The next priority is to ensure that the other two groups do not deteriorate a level. Decades of research have shown that by strictly following this algorithm, we save the maximum number of lives.

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
It's getting close to that point, if not already, where the casualties will be higher for not opening, than it is for continuing the lockdown.

People are now faced with the loss of their business that they worked a lifetime for, people's homes are on the lines, and a whole new new breed of homeless seems to be on the horizon.

Something wicked this way comes....

I knew this propaganda was coming - it was reported in the media already.

And of course, the fantasy numbers that the human impact of dealing with the pandemic is costing more than 1200 lives per day is just that - fantasy. And if the death toll due to more opening rises to 2000 per day, the fantasy number will be adjusted accordingly

The something wicked is Emperor Donald who is now threatening states that he'll cut off money if they don't toe the line on suppressing the vote this November.

Dear Mr.

Millions of Americans are already at triage level red. These include 150,000 Americans per month who would have had a new cancer detected through routine screening that hasn’t happened, millions who have missed routine dental care to fix problems strongly linked to heart disease/death, and preventable cases of stroke, heart attack, and child abuse. Suicide hotline phone calls have increased 600%.

Tens of millions are at triage level yellow. Liquor sales have increased 300-600%, cigarettes sales have increased, rent has gone unpaid, family relationships have become frayed, and millions of well-child check-ups have been missed.

Hundreds of millions are at triage level green. These are people who currently are solvent, but at risk should economic conditions worsen. Poverty and financial uncertainty is closely linked to poor health.

A continued shutdown means hundreds of millions of Americans will downgrade a level. The following are real examples from our practices.

Patient E.S. is a mother with two children whose office job was reduced to part-time and whose husband was furloughed. The father is drinking more, the mother is depressed and not managing her diabetes well, and the children are barely doing any schoolwork.

Patient A.F. has chronic but previously stable health conditions. Her elective hip replacement was delayed, which caused her to become nearly sedentary, resulting in a pulmonary embolism in April.

Patient R.T. is an elderly nursing home patient, who had a small stroke in early March but was expected to make a nearly complete recovery. Since the shutdown, he has had no physical or speech therapy, and no visitors. He has lost weight, and is deteriorating rather than making progress.

Patient S.O. is a college freshman who cannot return to normal life, school, and friendships. He risks depression, alcohol abuse, drug abuse, trauma, and future financial uncertainty.

We are alarmed at what appears to be the lack of consideration for the future health of our patients. The downstream health effects of deteriorating a level are being massively under-estimated and under-reported. This is an order of magnitude error.

It is impossible to overstate the short, medium, and long-term harm to people’s health with a continued shutdown. Losing a job is one of life’s most stressful events, and the effect on a person’s health is not lessened because it also has happened to 30 million other people. Keeping schools and universities closed is incalculably detrimental for children, teenagers, and young adults for decades to come.

The millions of casualties of a continued shutdown will be hiding in plain sight, but they will be called alcoholism, homelessness, suicide, heart attack, stroke, or kidney failure. In youths it will be called financial instability, unemployment, despair, drug addiction, unplanned pregnancies, poverty, and abuse.

Because the harm is diffuse, there are those who hold that it does not exist. We, the undersigned, know otherwise. Please let us know if we may be of assistance.

Respectfully, Simone Gold, M.D., J.D. & >500 physicians (attached)

Things are hard on us all. Without these restrictions, far more of us would be in bags, cremated, dying alone and no one to gather and mourn least they risk catching what killed the recently deceased. Its not like these decisions were made lightly. Thks is a crisis, against an enemy we cannot see and that we are still largely and mostly powerless against.

Tell the virus. I'm sure it's eager to hear your concerns and slow down and ease up so that our human activities may resume.

The rich are annoyed that they can't expand their yacht fleets as quickly as they could before the pandemic, so they feed silly propaganda like this to the working classes in an attempt to convince them that it's worth tossing grandma in a body bag as long as the money continues flowing upward.

Yes, the situation sucks, but ignoring a deady disease would make things worse, not better.
Besides, whatever happened to this rugged, independent, self-reliant culture of the right? It's ironic that these tough guy survivalist prepper types are the first to turn into total pussies once the **** hit the fan.

Good point. They aren't just into self accountability, they are into this rugged, self-reliant, fully independent fantasy as well. And here we are. The economy is tanked. A plague is amongst us. Are they ready? No. They're begging and pleading for stuff to reopen because, lo and behold, oh my god it turns out we actually need other people and for whatever reason they just can't be bothered to be held socially accountable because they must meet their every want and need regardless the risk and cost to others.
But stores can be rebuilt. Shops an reopen. New jobs can be found. The dead do not return to life, and when this is done those who did not die yet suffered horribly may possibly still suffer when this has all passed. But, just as long as Mammon is happy with the sacrifices of blood and flesh. It's all very much, as they so very love to accuse others, pagan and heathen.

Right, and they never gave a damn about people struggling in poverty before the pandemic, but now they care all of the sudden? And of course they've always opposed plans and programs that would've acted as a safety net for situations like this. If they didn't care about suffering before, they shouldn't pretend to care about it now, because that makes it obvious what this is really about.

You know, there is a law in the Bible that the Israelites were supposed put a parapet around the edges of your roofs. This was to prevent others from falling off. Deuteronomy 22:8

So, if the Bible is God's word to y'all believers, I think the point is clear: you are required to do things to prevent harm to others.

Sounds like an infringement of somebody's rights, doesn't it?

Nearly 40 percent of Covid-related deaths happen to nursing home patients who were likely to soon die anyways even without being infected by Covid; so then, we could just as well have soon afterwards taken their body bag pictures even without them having been covid infected. .

The USA are one of the worst affected countries in the world regards coronavirus, due in no small measure to its slow initial response, minimising the risks, disregard for science and engaging in divisive partisan politics when unity is called for. Hopefully the USA can find the best strategies moving forward as the number of deaths rapidly approaches the 100,000 mark.

Unfortunately, the C.D.C. had flawed Covid testing early on during this pandemic, which thwarted contact tracing and targeted quarantining efforts in order to effectively contain the SARS-Cov 2 virus from widely spreading across our once great nation. While we should applaud our P.O.T.U.S. for having stopped the travel of the Wuhan virus on international flights from China into America by the end of January, he did unfortunately wait too long for stopping the travel of this corona virus invading America from Europe.

Whether there'd be 2,000 daily C.O.V.i.D-related deaths happening daily over the course of 500 days until corona-virus related deaths cease when herd immunity is reached or there'd be 1,200 daily C.O.V.I.D. related deaths happening over the course of 834 days until corona virus related deaths cease when herd immunity immunity is reached, there'd end up either way being the same total number of one million C.O.V.I.D. related deaths. Massive quarantining against C.O.V.I.D. would then merely serve to extend 400,000 lives by a time span of less than one year.

The human toll of lost lives by massive quarantining seems to me to be far greater than the cost of 400,000 lives each being saved by an average period of less than one year.

Among the 60% are healthy adults, young adults, people with no previously existing conditions or health concerns. Even the very young, who have the easiest time with this disease, are among the critically ill and dead. This disease is basically a gamble should you get it. No symptoms? Mild Symptoms? Symptoms bad enough you go to the doctor? Go to ICU? The Morgue?
I've lost better and more assured odds playing poker. And a slow, painful death of gasping for air and suffocation? Looking at those odds and what's at stake, I'll pass.
But if the economy reopens, we all end up having to take this risk. We all have to go back to work, we all have to go back to crowded stores, crowded streets, we'll all be expected to partake, and economically we will have a very ugly captive market of death and disease.
I get there are consequences to these actions. I realize I'm lucky in all this. But a fully open economy and society, this puts an expectation to burden the risk of this disease on everyone. And keep in mind, very literally we are learning about this virus as we go along. It's not a cute cliche of "figure it out as you go along." It's what's going on, but unlike algebra or cooking the repercussions of policies at this moment effect everyone. People are going to die either way. Things will get bad either way.
With strictly and prompter action, perhaps we could have managed this in a better way. But among the lies, misinformation, selfishness, and greed, this orderly management was never given a chance. Often by those screaming about Patriotism the most, the who say they love their country the most, but yet the most unwilling to sacrifice for it. Now, it's basically damage control. People said "this is my [insert reason x and right y here]!" They gathered, they spread the virus around (frequently unaware they are carriers and not wearing masks), they got sick, they died.
People want more normal, but we just cannot have that at this moment. This is the "Great War" of this century. It is global, but this one isn't fought with bullets and bombs. And the sacrifices it requires aren't easy. They do mean we all give stuff up. Because EVERYONE is at risk.

Do you have any data to support this?

Suicide rates were doubled during the economic depression of the 1930's, that cost the lives of 55 Americans on average each day, over the course of two years these 40,000 people might have cut their lives short by an overall average of 10,000 days each. 40,000 times 10,000 days equals 400 million days of human life. (edit)***Whereas, extending 400,000 lives by an overall average of 250 days each equals 100 million days of human life.***

***Whereas, extending 400,000 lives by an overall average of 250 days each equals 100 million days of human life.*** edited from original version typo/error of....Whereas, saving 800 lives a day by over the course of 500 days equals 800400,000 days of human life.

Or, better yet, we hold him accountable for every American death due to his negligence and inaction that did little to nothing to help or prepare this country Incoming travel should have strictly prohibeted, not just at China. Trump is an idiot for not realizing the neon elephant in the room that, oh, yeah, go to another country and then get here.

That is not evidence of your claim.
