Covid-19 - Breathe... relax.... breathe

The virus does not spread easily in other ways
COVID-19 is a new disease and we are still learning about how it spreads. It may be possible for COVID-19 to spread in other ways, but these are not thought to be the main ways the virus spreads.

  • From touching surfaces or objects. It may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes. This is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads, but we are still learning more about this virus.

We can now sigh a sigh of relief and breathe a little. A reversal from the CDC.

But go ahead and wash your hands.

Yes, one of many... some said it remained for 48 hours, others for 6 days or more and thus, everyone was washing shopping carts, handle bars, light switches, do it yourself now credit cards etc.

It may not be the MAIN way but that quote indicates it is a way. I don't see it as a reversal at all.

But even if it is not the main way, isn't it proper to wash all those things to reduce the likelihood of getting sick ?

Washing your hands is always a good thing. Fear is not.

Imagine going through a very minor inconvenience to reduce your chance of you and your loved ones dying during a pandemic! Haha, sheeple...

Fear actually is a good thing when it helps keep you alive.

Most people are not cowering in the corner refusing to touch anything and weeping like a child, they are just taking a few easy steps to reduce their chance of dying unnecessarily.

Biggest downside - practically nothing.
Biggest upside - not dying unnecessarily

Keeping your grandparents safe is a good thing. Loosing your business, your ability to supply for your own family, increasing suicide rates doesn't quality as "minor inconveniences".

Fear is a good thing when a truck is coming in your direction and you are in the middle of the road. Having a face mask on when you are all alone and in your own car is not a good fear.

Getting irate and violent because you don't have a face mask on is not an upside.

You are changing the subject here though. Which is fine, but you are. You are no longer talking about washing things.

Having a face mask on when you are all alone and in your own car is not a good fear.

Removing your face mask and putting it back on again increases your chance of infection.

Downside of keeping it on - practically nothing
Upside - reduced chance of death

What's this got to do with washing your hands?

Speaking of shopping carts, today was the second time I saw this. A lady pushed an used shopping cart from the parking lot into the store. After entering the store she proceeded to sanitize the cart with the wipes provided. Again, I had to stop myself from explaining to the lady that she just handle the cart for at least a hundred feet before coming into the store. Go figure....

Keeping your face mask on for hours where you breathe out germs into that moist warm petri dish increases your chance of infection.

MacIntyre notes that cloth masks — which people wash and reuse — are also common in Asian countries. She says there's no evidence to show they have any benefit, and her research suggests they "may actually be harmful," because infrequent washing and moisture retention can make cloth masks a breeding ground for pathogens.
Face Masks: What Doctors Say About Their Role In Containing Coronavirus

Downside - waste of time and money - little help - and you might expose yourself to more pathogens
Upside - you psychologically feel better.

So true.

Another example... Cashier told me, "Please stand behind the plexiglass on the green 'x'". I complied. Total 12..29. I move away from the plexiglass to where we have free passage face to face, pull out $15 that has been handled by who knows how many people, she grabs the money that has been handled and places the change into my hand.

What's up with logic?

First, Source? Link? Secondly, If these are not the main ways, then why would that cause a sigh of relief? We can easily manage washing our hands and not touching our faces, relatively speaking. But then what are the other ways, and are we more at risk?

What is the point of your post? Do you think that this virus is overblown and want to celebrate what appears to you to be indecision on the part of the medical community? What motivates you, exactly?

So far we know it's a Carona virus, similar to others and I see as step up from pnem. affecting both lungs instead of one (etc) so best we can do is watch what we touch and don't be around strangers (sneeze isn't a symptom last time checked but if those with colds and allergies can be higher risk than healthy since their immune system is compromised. The 6 feet rule is good too. Most things I'd assume is more for medics and those treating and highly populated areas. It's alright to fear and also be mindful cause fear can send you to the hospital where if we can be mindful first, those beds can be used for those who may need it. (Not underminding fear itself.)

The recent evidence, such as that which was supplied my MIT (not Romney), has it that by far the greatest threat is not by touch but by mouth (sneezing, coughing, loud talk, etc). In a sneeze or cough, according to MIT's analysis the virus can project out in a "cloud" for up to 27 feet and hang in the air for up to two hours. This is undoubtedly why it spreads so fast

IOW, we all should be wearing a mask in public, and I have gotten all sorts of compliments on my looks when I wear mine.

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) - Transmission

My motivation is the actual fear that I see and the overreaction of so many people. I am of the group that is labelled "in danger of" - grey haired. And even I think it is overblown.

I have sneezed into my arm for almost 66 years but to have a couple, that have masks on for protection, actually turn around an go in the opposite direction is just plain ridiculous.

We don't have a 100% of people with Covid. In our area we have a total of 11 deaths - .00002 of the county population. Our infection for the last 4 months is .0006 of the total population and people are acting like "I'm going to die tomorrow". That is a rate of probability of 5 - one hundred THOUSANDTHS a day of a chance of getting it let alone dying from it.

You are more likely to get in a car accident than get Covid.

That being said, I wash my hands.
