Planet of the Humans

I am not so fond of Michael Moore, but his new documentary is surely a masterpiece. In short, it exposes what was once a noble cause(environment) which has now sold out to Wall Street with the secret agenda to make a profit. It also exposes exaggerations and totally inefficient methods of producing energy. As with all human endeavours euphemism-such as Bio-Mass- are used to ease the pain of our forest deforestation. The last five minutes of this movie brought tears to my eyes. You can watch on Youtube for free.

How did Michael Moore become a hero to climate deniers and the far right? | George Monbiot

But this is by no means the worst of it. The film offers only one concrete solution to our predicament: the most toxic of all possible answers. “We really have got to start dealing with the issue of population … without seeing some sort of major die-off in population, there’s no turning back.” Yes, population growth does contribute to the pressures on the natural world. But while the global population is rising by 1% a year, consumption, until the pandemic, was rising at a steady 3%. High consumption is concentrated in countries where population growth is low. Where population growth is highest, consumption tends to be extremely low. Almost all the growth in numbers is in poor countries largely inhabited by black and brown people. When wealthy people, such as Moore and Gibbs, point to this issue without the necessary caveats, they are saying, in effect, “it’s not Us consuming, it’s Them breeding.” It’s not hard to see why the far right loves this film.

Moore's stuff may be slick masterpiece, but his view of the science and the natural world is bogus. The reference cited by @Mock Turtle is very revealing of the dark side of Moore.

What is true, is that the world was a far nicer place to live before most of the great empires were formed.
say 5000 years ago.
Unfortunately even then it was constantly at war and disease and poverty were rife.
If you reduced the worlds population to a tenth of what it is today, things would be little if any better for mankind.

However the natural world would benefit hugely.

In terms of the natural world and its future, mankind is a disastrous plague that is out of hand. And has been since, forever.

we are showing not the least sign of improving.

Probably the only thing about the 'Climate Change' catastrophe that's not a hoax....just sayin'.

At least he correctly predicted that Trump would win and that he would be a threat to our democracy. Yes, he is quite outspoken, but the reality is that his criticisms are often spot-on. "Sicko" is one of ,my favorites of his, btw.

He's pro blue-collar to the core, and I think we need a voice like that, especially with what we now have in the White House. He's the kinda guy that the right love to hate.

I haven't seen his latest documentary though, so I won't pass any judgment on it.

I have seen it, and though it's sometimes a bit over the top (a trade mark of Moore's), I think it is basically spot on.

And to those who argue the only real solution is population decrease, I think they are missing something else that was strongly hinted at --- USE LESS of pretty much everything. And that, by the was, is entirely possible.

Why is it that when we have too many animals or insects we have no problem at all in culling them to suit our selves. In fact there are entire industries set up to do just that.

But at the same time we think it quite ok to let our own population expand exponentially. To the detriment of everything else.

The rest of the natural word is the environment in which we live and what supports us. If it goes, we go too. We are all interdependent.

I totally agree, and I do believe that we are far better off as a person and a society if we are minimalists.

As I recall he was on Channel 4 news (UK) immediately before the election result and said Clinton was about to be declared the winner (he actually said something like "We are about to have our first female president.")

It was not immediately before the election result. Clinton was in trouble early on.
