It's been my experience in my 30 plus years in the security business, that videos are not admissible in court. Having said this, it doesn't mean you can't track the guy down yourself. Also, it may allow law enforcement to keep an eye on the perp if the recognize him (usually they tend to ignore you until elections roll around).

As an addendum: these talking door bell cameras are the bee's knees. They'll call you when they see someone, and you can put the fear of God in them by yelling at them from your front door.

More effective is a product I once saw.
It was a trip wire activated pepper spray dispenser.
Skip the prosecution, & go straight to punishment.
Now you'll have a really useful video which is admissible
in youtube.

Not sure. But there are some really impressive wireless cameras that will call your phone when activated. From what I've seen, one of these might work.

Sounds like a good idea.

Recently somebody stole a bidet I ordered for my brother from eBay, must have taken it from his front porch.

I take some comfort in knowing how disappointed the thief is going to be when they open the package though.
