Behold, the UK's future Head of State!

That this man will be our next Head of State is no mystery, indeed it is a certainty...

The Queen won't last forever

Do people think he'll be a good King? What do you think of him?

I don't have any problems with him, he is what he is

I think he'll manage OK, he's been waiting long enough to have a go

I think it's quite a cushy job anyway...

But if he succumbs to the pandemic (as well he might) then we'll get William...

Is that correct?
If Charles were to die before The Queen, does the succession not go to The Queen's next male heir - ie Andrew?

I'm no expert on this so I could be talking cobblers.

I would prefer that the "United Kingdom" was actually a Republic, even if the idea of "President Johnson" gives me chills. I don't mind a constitutional monarchy as the monarch is still bound by the rule of law and can't rule arbitrarily violating individual rights, but it seems very out of step with modernity and the democratic, secular values we now share.

No strong opinion of the man really, though I'd be quite happy for him to champion environmental causes if he takes the throne. I hope he recovers from Coronavirus nonetheless.

I admit that sometimes I succumb to reading yellow press magazines, especially know, when we have so much time to spend at home. Of course, I can only guess, but maybe Charles isn't what Queen Elizabeth II expected him to be as the heir to the throne. Maybe she considers him sort of "not so suitable", and thus prefers continuing to do the "job" herself as long as she can. I have no idea about the rules of succession, but if I were to pick a king, it would be William for sure. He appears to be prudent and calm, and for him as a possible king, being charismatic certainly is an advantage.

I believe it passes down the first male heir's line (so William) before passing to Andrew.

Thankfully, Andy is even behind Harry's kid. The line of succession is not contingent.

Apparently, according to this site, anything could happen - it's up to the Queen:

I'm pretty sure only the UK govt. can change the line of succession, it's not within the Queen's powers to do so (although I may be mistaken).

So basically it will be a period of forced morning like with Diana :(

But it was only the royal family forced into the façade of morning, by the common people.
I have always been a fan of Princess Diana so am bias where Charles is concerned having a negative
view of his character, of lack there of.

I'm a member of the common people and I felt as though there was an element of coercion when it came to mourning Diana, which had a lot to do with the media - telling us all how to think, what to feel, and how to behave

I'm sure I was not alone

I don't know and i don't honestly care - it should have been Anne
I think it should be either the numero uno from the colonies or from the mandate territory. I'm referring, of course, to the President of the United States and the Prime Minister of Israel...:p:D

Now THAT is a thought I have to get out of my brain. King Donald or King Benjamin? I'm sure Scotland would be utterly amused at the thought.

I think King Donald has a nice ring to it, but I never referred to either of these by name, because they may not still be in office by the time it's time to choose a royal successor.
