After coming across a thread about a new kind of anti-viral mask (New anti-virus mask (you can use for a long time)), I was wondering what other kind of technological or scientific developments we might see. As it is often said, necessity is the mother of invention, and there's certainly a great deal of necessity these days. I've been hearing a lot about scientists working to develop a vaccine, since it's obviously needed.

But with the obvious concern over the possibility of virus transmission, people cleaning and disinfecting surfaces, doorknobs, etc., I was wondering what technologies might be possible as far as virus detection. I'm imagining something like a tricorder on Star Trek, which can pick up just about anything. You could scan an area with your tricorder, and if a virus is detected nearby, it would alert you. That would be useful to have. It could also conceivably be able to do a scan on anyone and detect if they have the virus or not.

Another item that might be useful: Reusable toilet paper.

That's a good way of looking at it finding out the silver lining in all this.

Since HOS has been suspended by the Trump administration let's start with letting truckers drive like everyone else from now on. it's self-serving but I got to tell you it's refreshing not have to worry about log books or any of the other b******* that the government puts on you.

More closer to the topic at hand, I think the whole experience will make us better prepared for any future crisis by looking at the failures that have happened now and to help further avoid them if and when the next crisis arrives within our lifetimes.

If anything it does go to show you the advances of research and expediting on a basis of need and priority.

Since HOS has been suspended by the Trump administration let's start with letting truckers drive like everyone else from now on. it's self-serving but I got to tell you it's refreshing not have to worry about log books or any of the other b******* that the government puts on you.

Other road users generally prefer not to have to worry about some lorry driver nodding off cos they've been driving excessively to earn more cash though.

Car drivers are in roughly the same boat as each other, so at least there is reciprocal risk. Lorry drivers endanger others far more than they endanger themselves.
