Or is it a sign of fanaticism that you are always wishing ill on people?

Curses are stupid. I mean...if the 'cursee' deserves it, you can figure that God already has him/her in His/Her sights. If s/he doesn't, then the only thing you are doing when you curse others is aim at yourself. I don't know about other scriptures, but the version of God talked about in the Bible isn't very happy with those who practice 'unrighteous judgment." How in the world do you tell whether someone else deserves your curse, or that God will listen to you if you issue one?

It's never made a whole lot of sense to me.

I wonder if it even works. I often hear people saying that they want God to "damn" somebody or something. Some people say it all the time.

Forget healthy. Don't a moderator jump in somewhere along the line. Besides, the automatic "****" takes the bit out of it, doesn't it?

praying for God to damage people.
Who does that here in RF, or anywhere, for that matter? I think the last time I did something like that I was about eight years old and was upset with another kid who had bullied me. Hmmm, ... there was the time I told my wife that I hoped I could dance on her oldest brother's grave. But I haven't thought nor said that since my mother-in-law died and I knew I'd never have to see him again.

why would a God of infinite love and compassion ever curse anyone for any reason ever, or ever advise anyone to do what they obviously never do?

Curses and magic are part of a few religions already. It does not phase those indoctrinated.

of that I am well aware, tragically hip lol
what spirit of life would ever summon a curse?
what does light have to do with darkness?

spirit is a word used to define invisible phenomenology like we use the word electron to define something we cannot see, or hertz to measure vibrations we cannot but maybe dimly even perceive, if at all
science has gone completely theoretical now that it has gone subatomic
religion is merely a science of invisible principles which defined itself based on observable phenomenology which then had "meaning" ascribed to it by mystery teachers, who turned it into codes of law and stories which became the eschatology....which the simple and the unlearned have known only as legends and fables and something they loosely call "reality" which is considered a most terribly enigmatic mystery which has debased into the multitude of superstitions currently in vogue.

It's really healthy and the best way to avoid becoming an oppressor or their supporters or being apathetic to oppression.

I would challenge the notion that people who don’t trivially invoke the curse of God are apathetic to oppression.
