5G network, do we really need it?

Spirit of Light

The first City in Norway to get 5G is the city I live 5 minutes away from. And I have tried to be positive to it, But honestly do we really need faster network then we already have? What about the health issues with so many transceivers that send out microwaves? To me it sounds not very good for the health, and the air is already full of digital signals and different rays that Governments allow.

Any thoughts?

There's a lot of stuff we 'don't need.' Just ask the Luddites.

Shoot, ask the guy who first invented fire and the first bronze ax.

It's not a matter of 'need,' ever, when you come right down to things.

Personally i trying to get less and less digital lifestyle, so the 5G are unimportant to me, but maybe others want it because it is "better" then what we have today?

The phone people need 5G, then 6G etc - how else will they sell more phones
We could buy new when the old brake down, I don't see the use of buying new phone just because a new get on the marked. And most of the phones I had was given to me, not something i buy often.

What? Me worry?

Exactly. It really comes down to if you have it, use it.

We're lucky to have these new innovations. My first cell phone came in a "bag" the size of a shoe box (damn, I'm starting to sound like my parents).

Do we really need it? Faster communication is important in many walks of life. Particularly business applications

Do i really need it? No, i only use my mobile phone for the occasional text and emergencies, like "i im going to be late home fod dinner"

As for the dangers of RF signals, very slight, the power emited by phones is negligible. The higher power microwaves of towers is directed line of sight well above head height.

As far as i understood the 5G transmitters they only send very short distance, so they need many transmitter towers on the ground for a very small area. So the microwaves would be everywhere with that system

No. Unlimited bandwidth and 100% uptime is a lot better.

The signal to and from phones to transceiver is very weak. Not much different than a wifi signal and 3/4g phones.

The signal between masts is a very narrow beam at mm frequencies, it must be accurately directed. Imagine a laser beam between 2 points

In reply to your question you could shield your house from microwaves and from other radio waves. I think it rare and normally only used to keep waves into secure locations, but you could install electromagnetic shielding. It would probably be some kind of mesh made of metal conductors, and it would keep electromagnetic radiation out of your home. Most people consider this to be eccentric, however there are people who don't. Here's an article on how to begin learning whether it could benefit you and which talks about materials you can purchase for this: How to shield your house from electromagnetic radiation

Cell phones are relatively safe compared to microwave ovens. I keep mine in my front pocket of my slacks. I have not seen any wild animals reacting to microwaves or other forms of electromagnetic radiation. It has not altered migratory paths of birds or insects. I think if its dangerous then the other animals will react. I feel like if its dangerous then something should be reacting. Something should be affected, such as field mice or moose or cats or Physics majors.

Comment about microwave ovens:

Microwave ovens do not produce waves which resonate well with water molecules. If they did the food would cook a lot more evenly in the ovens. Ovens run at 2.45Ghz because most other wavelengths are reserved for communications and because some other wavelengths are more difficult to produce! The result is that microwave ovens are not as efficient as they should be. The waves bounce around inside the ovens multiple times before hopefully being absorbed by either the food or the oven, itself. This is actually quite dangerous, so an oven is equipped with safety devices which hopefully shut off the magnetron (that device which produces the microwave photons) if there are problems.
