Blasphemy ‘is no crime’, says Macron amid French girl’s anti-Islam row

‘Emmanuel Macron has waded into a row over a schoolgirl whose attack on Islam has divided France, insisting that blasphemy is “no crime”.

The French president defended the teenager, named only as Mila, who received death threats and was forced out of her school after filming an anti-religious diatribe on social media.

Macron’s intervention comes after his justice minister, Nicole Belloubet, was criticised for claiming Mila’s attack on religion was “an attack on freedom of conscience” while saying the death threats were “unacceptable”.’

Fanatics are to be found in many religions - Hindus in India attacking Muslims, Buddhists attacking Muslims and so forth. There are extremely few saints on any bus.
No doubt.
But consider the irony of the name, which according to many means peace.
And yet, some of it's followers are inspired by the religion to commit violence.
Religion doesn't really rein in malefactors, who find justification for wrongdoing
in ambiguous & violence laden scripture anyway.

It pains me immeasurably, but I basically have to agree with you mostly but underline the universality of ignoring the positive parts of the various scriptures. Malefactors will find justification for wrongdoing no matter what is the real meaning of any scriptures

We don’t need people to be saints to practice basic tolerance.
And why can’t we exclude people of any religion whose beliefs run contrary to basic tolerance (such as the belief in death to blasphemers) from entry to our countries? France should never have had this problem to begin with.

I heard from @Saint Frankenstein that you don’t have this problem in the US because migrants have to sign something to say they uphold the constitution, but not every country has a constitution, yet we should all have something which migrants must sign to say they uphold certain minimum values of tolerance for fundamental human rights.

I believe a large portion of people feel aroused by immigration, and even more so by allowing immigrants to change their culture to be more like the immigrants.

I know this sounds strange, but it's the only logical conclusion I've been able to come up with as to why people *allow* these negative cultural shifts to occur, while remaining silent.

...Because arousal is the only human emotion that exists outside of logic that I can think of... Not to mention we're talking about the French.

I have no issue with denying fanatics the right to enter any country.

Blasphemy! Just gotta love that word.

Tell me, is it not blaspheming every other non-Christian religion in history to say "Jesus is God?" So every time a Christian asserts a central article of his faith, he's a blasphemer to somebody else.

What blasphemy really means is "you say something that I don't agree with about religion, and I have enough power to punish you for it." And that's all it means.

And how does that make you feel, knowing that many of those mystery fanatics will actually have the goal of replacing the existing cultures, to where they immigrate, with a more dominant Islamic one?

Seriously. What is the feeling you get with that?

The same feeling I get when Christian fanatics want to impose Biblical law in the US on the installment plan as they're now doing.

And the same feeling I get when China basically puts an entire religious group in what is effectively a prison.

And the same feeling I get when Buddhists attack Muslims.

And the same feeling I get when Hindus worship Ghandi's killer who was a Hindu fanatic.

And the same feeling I get when anti-Semites of any background attack Jews.

And the same feeling I get when incidents of racism or sexism or attacks on LGBT people occur.

So you hate it. Yet you allow it.

Why..?

I don't understand.

Yes, immigrants must swear to uphold the Constitution during the citizenship ceremony. Besides, many of those people are escaping from tyranny so first generation immigrants probably are less likely to support extremism.

What, did you expect @sun rise to miraculously have the power to stop everything humans do, all over the world?

No, but immigrants to every Western country could be required to uphold the constitutions, and customs of the country, like @Saint Frankenstein was saying...

Why wouldn't people want that for our neighbors who share much in common with us and are our friends? Also,we should like the fact that we do that for ourselves. I doubt some do though.
