It looks like free speech in the UK is now on the slippery slope.

So for UK politicians, the internet is going to be used as a tool for controlling the masses, by forcefully teaching people to speak a certain way.

....Sounds like something China, or a Muslim country would do. Disgusting

Not seeing what's wrong with asking sites to actually moderate their content. Am I missing something? Since when was it the government's responsibility to deal with private websites?

I don't know the quality of the source, but if it's accurate, it seems like very bad news. I think we can predict shouts of "blasphemy" right around the corner.

From Reuters:

...the UK government said on Wednesday it planned to legislate to ensure companies had systems in place to tackle harmful content such as child abuse, cyber bullying and terrorist propaganda.

The policy, which will be developed in the coming months, would not place an undue burden on business, the government said. Penalties had not yet been decided, but it said the new rules would be enforced in a “fair, proportionate and transparent way”.

Britain to make social media platforms responsible for harmful content

Slippery slope? Better or worse than the American NSA listening in on our free speech in the privacy of our property?

Worse, because the U.S.government doesn't even do anything at all about the druggies making deals on their Obamaphones. They don't do anything about anything. Probably, they're just recording us for future generations to study and observe

Yeah. In other news, chocolate rations are up to twenty grams a week!

UK is on the fast track toward totalitarianism.

The amount of personal and economic freedom that have been lost over the last few decades has been staggering at least. I don't even consider the UK a free country anymore.

Compared with which countries on the spectrum - perhaps list the best and the worst?

I call it acclimating the masses for socialism to be later turned into communism.

My opinion started with the determination made by the UN. Maybe a little sooner than that even.

The Slow Death of Free Speech in Britain (America, You're Next!)

It's been downhill ever since and I don't see us Yanks being very far behind if the socialist Democrats reacquire Presidential power.

It's bad enough here as it is. I can't imagine how it is for those in the UK, England, and Britain. I can only compare it to living in a waking nightmare.

At any rate, I don't consider our overseas compatriots as being a free people anymore and has lost the will to fight to bring those freedoms back.

This Is exactly what the government should do.
I suppose you support Child abusers Cyber bullying And Terrorists
These are all things that are illegal in the UK
On line entities should be required to comply with the law.

On this site these things are already banned and regulated by the moderators.
Global sites should do no different.

The problem is you're going to cloister people over the course of time to the realities that surround us using insulating policies. Not to mention the abuse that can come from that through the use of falsified propaganda.

Let's use the extreme example of the people in North Korea. They will not be prepared if the s*** ever hits the fan. The shock will do a lot more harm imo.
