Rachel Henry, accused of killing 3 kids, smothered them while singing

PHOENIX – The 22-year-old mother accused of killing her three children in Phoenix sang to her children as she smothered them to death, according to court records.

Rachel Henry was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder Monday after she admitted to killing her three children under the age of 4, police said.

Police initially said her son was 3 years old and her daughters were 2 years old and 7 months old, but a probable cause document released Tuesday night says the girls were 1 year old and 7 months old.

The document recounted how Henry allegedly smothered the three children one by one before lining up their bodies. However, it doesn’t provide a possible motive for the brutal killing.

I view this as yet another indicator of just how screwed up so many people are and why there is a great need for society to have services and help for people who are struggling or in despair. They say she just moved to Arizona from Oklahoma and that she had a problem with meth.

Henry placed the bodies of the three children on the living room floor as though they were taking a nap, the report says. She didn't tell the father or her aunt what happened.

A female called 911 to report the three children were found dead at around 7:20 p.m., according to the probable cause statement. It's not clear whether that was Henry or the other female in the home.

Both Henry and the father of the children were transported to the Phoenix police station to be interviewed. At some point, police said Henry admitted to killing the children.

Family members told police Henry, who has a history of methamphetamine addiction, had been “acting strange” the past several days.

Sad story. I don't know what gets into some people. Why would a mother kill her own children?

Something very wrong with her perception of reality.

Maybe brain damage from meth or some other thing like that.

I once worked with a woman whose name I later read in the paper because she shot and killed someone. But she seemed nice enough at work; I would never have dreamed that she could be capable of gunning someone down in cold blood.

Another article had quotes from family and friends who also felt the same about this young woman, as they thought she was devoted to her kids and never thought she could ever do this.

I guess it can make one wonder about any of us.

I find little reason to not question my own sanity. Maybe the bigger problem is when we stop.

Or possibly the lack thereof.
I vaguely recall a similar incident where a mother drowned her four children in a bathtub.
She'd been on heavy anti-psychotic drugs, and was fine. She was a good wife and mother. But something happened, like a glitch in their insurance. She didn't take her meds and then "saved her children from sin" by killing them.
The younger ones were easy. The oldest boy saw what was happening, and she had to chase him through the house before she could overpower him.

But, the bottom line is that all the kids went to Heaven. Isn't that the primary goal of Christian parenting?
