European Trump's speech against Anti-Semitism

ImmortalFlame

The entire speech is basically political mist, seeking to equate legitimate criticism of Israel with anti-Semitism without making a meaningful distinction between objecting to or criticizing the actions of the Israeli state and anti-Semitism.

I think the distinction is essential because no matter how controversial the political decisions of a state can be, Salvini underlines the right of a Nation to its territory. The right of a Nation to peaceful coexistence. The right to be treated with dignity by the UNO and the EU.
The right to have a united, peaceful Mediterranean, after years of turmoil in the ME.

This all sounds good, but it necessarily ignores the numerous atrocities being committed by Israel (and before anyone jumps again, this is in no way means that the numerous atrocities committed by Palestine SHOULD be ignored either). If a Nation has a right to its territory, that goes for the people of Palestine too, who Israel have been aggressively claiming the land of for decades, and committing numerous human rights abuses against. This is the political equivalent of a parent responding to a child beating up another child and taking their toys by saying "Well, that child has a right to self-determination and toys, and I don't feel I have the right to say that the toy they took doesn't belong to them - that would be unfair", while willingly turning a blind eye to the injured and abused child who just had their toy taken from them.

Well..we are in the 21st century....it is time to construct a peaceful Mediterranean. A new Civilization.
Italy will cooperate with those who agree on this project.

Based on the language of this speech, I don't believe they will. It seems to me like the kind of peace they are looking for is, at best, indifferent to the annihilation of the Palestinian people (and at worst requires it).

My Matthew never implied something like that.
You are assuming things.
He seems to be subtly equating criticism of Israel with anti-Semitism, and referring to appeasement of the state of Israel as peaceful while making no mention at all of the continual suffering of the Palestinian people.

Do you have any examples of him speaking out against Israeli human-rights abuses, or standing up for Palestine's right to self-determination and defense?

Sounds like the man is on the right track

I care about Europe. What happens beyond the Bosporus is none of my business:)

Some people care about human rights, and opposing those who remove or contravene them. Matteo doesn't appear to care, and is happy to side with those who commit atrocities for purely political reasons.

If we had to think of all those who commit atrocities beyond the Bosporus...

I just want thd peace everywhere. Syria, Libya, Israel....

Then he needs to address the warlike actions of BOTH Israel and Palestine, the human rights atrocities of both, and not imply that criticism of Israeli foreign policy is equatable to anti-Semitism.

Someone who truly stands for freedom and peace wouldn't selectively defend one side in a conflict and deliberately turn a blind eye to the un-peaceful and freedom-destroying actions of that side. You cannot be a defender of freedom and peace while supporting and defending a nation for continuing war and contravening human rights.
