COL 2:16 And The Sabbath - Are You Being Told The Truth?

But not written by God.

Sure they were who wrote God's 10 commandmetns?

EXODUS 32:13-16 [16], And THE TABLES WERE THE WORK OF GOD, and THE WRITING WAS THE WRITING OF GOD, graven on the tables.

................

Then we read in the new testament scritures

2 TIMOTHY 3:16 [16], ALL SCRIPTURE IS GIVEN BY INSPIRATION (G2315 θεόπνευστος God breathed; coming from God; living) OF GOD, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness (KJV)

2 TIMOTHY 3:16 ALL SCRIPTURE IS GOD-BREATHED and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness (NIV)

2 TIMOTHY 3:16 ALL SCRIPTURE IS BREATHED OUT BY GOD and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness (ESV)

2 TIMOTHY 3:16 EVERYTHING IN THE SCRIPTURES IS GOD'S WORD. All of it is useful for teaching and helping people and for correcting them and showing them how to live.(CEV)

2 TIMOTHY 3:16 EVERYTHING WRITTEN BY THE SPIRIT is profitable for teaching, for correction, for direction and for a course in righteousness (Aramaic)

2315. θεόπνευστος; theopneustos

Strong's Concordance
theopneustos: God-breathed, i.e. inspired by God
Original Word: θεόπνευστος, ον
Part of Speech: Adjective
Transliteration: theopneustos
Phonetic Spelling: (theh-op'-nyoo-stos)
Definition: God-breathed, inspired by God
Usage: God-breathed, inspired by God, due to the inspiration of God.

2315 theópneustos (from 2316 /theós, "God" and 4154 /pnéō, "breathe out") – properly, God-breathed, referring to the divine inspiration (inbreathing) of Scripture (used only in 2 Tim 3:16).

2315 /theópneustos ("God-breathed"), likely a term coined by Paul, "expresses the sacred nature of the Scriptures (their divine origin) and their power to sanctify believers" (C. Spicq, 2, 193).

[Inbreathing (2315 /theópneustos) relates directly to God's Spirit (Gk pneuma) which can also be translated "breath."]

2 Tim 3:16: "Each-and-every (3956 /pás, singular) Scripture (Gk, singular) is God-breathed (2315 /theópneustos) and profitable for teaching, for convincing, for correction, for training in righteousness."

The singular (anarthrous) use of 3956 /pás ("all") underlines that each part of speech (every inflected word-form, "reflex") used in the Bible is God-breathed, i.e. inscripturated (written) under divine inspiration.

[G. Archer, "2315 (theópneustos) is better rendered 'breathed out by God' as the emphasis is upon the divine origin of the inscripturated revelation itself" (A Survey of OT Introduction, fn. 7, 29).]

Notes from the scholars

Gill's Exposition of the Entire Bible

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God,.... That is, all holy Scripture; for of that only the apostle is speaking; and he means the whole of it; not only the books of the Old Testament, but of the New, the greatest part of which was now written; for this second epistle to Timothy is by some thought to be the last of Paul's epistles; and this also will hold good of what was to be written; for all is inspired by God, or breathed by him: the Scriptures are the breath of God, the word of God and not men; they are "written by the Spirit", as the Syriac version renders it; or "by the Spirit of God", as the Ethiopic version.

Barnes Notes

2 TIMOTHY 3:16; Is given by inspiration of God - All this is expressed in the original by one word - Θεόπνευστος Theopneustos. This word occurs nowhere else in the New Testament. It properly means, God-inspired - from Θεός Theos, "God," and πνέω pneō, "to breathe, to breathe out." The idea of "breathing upon, or breathing into the soul," is that which the word naturally conveys. Thus, God breathed into the nostrils of Adam the breath of life Genesis 2:7, and thus the Saviour breathed on his disciples, and said, "receive ye the Holy Ghost;" John 20:22. The idea seems to have been, that the life was in the breath, and that an intelligent spirit was communicated with the breath. The expression was used among the Greeks, and a similar one was employed by the Romans. Plutarch ed. R. 9. 583. 9. τοὺς ὀνείρους τοὺς θεοπνεύστους tous oneirous tous theopneustous. Phocylid. 121. τῆς δὲ θεοπνεύστου σοφίης λόγος ἐστὶν ἄριστος tēs de theopnoustou sophiēs logos estin aristos. Scriptures are as much the production of God, or are as much to be traced to him, as life is; compare Matthew 22:43; 2 Peter 1:21. The question as to the degree of inspiration, and whether it extends to the words of Scripture, and how far the sacred writers were left to the exercise of their own faculties, is foreign to the design of these notes. All that is necessary to be held is, that the sacred writers were kept from error on those subjects which were matters of their own observation, or which pertained to memory; and that there were truths imparted to them directly by the Spirit of God, which they could never have arrived at by the unaided exercise of their own minds. Compare the introduction to Isaiah and Job.

Jamieson-Fausset-Brown Bible Commentary

16. All scripture—Greek, "Every Scripture," that is, Scripture in its every part. However, English Version is sustained, though the Greek article be wanting, by the technical use of the term "Scripture" being so well known as not to need the article (compare Greek, Eph 3:15; 2:21). The Greek is never used of writings in general, but only of the sacred Scriptures. The position of the two Greek adjectives closely united by "and," forbids our taking the one as an epithet, the other as predicated and translated as Alford and Ellicott. "Every Scripture given by inspiration of God is also profitable." Vulgate and the best manuscripts, favor English Version. Clearly the adjectives are so closely connected that as surely as one is a predicate, the other must be so too. Alford admits his translation to be harsh, though legitimate. It is better with English Version to take it in a construction legitimate, and at the same time not harsh. The Greek, "God-inspired," is found nowhere else. Most of the New Testament books were written when Paul wrote this his latest Epistle: so he includes in the clause "All Scripture is God-inspired," not only the Old Testament, in which alone Timothy was taught when a child (2Ti 3:15), but the New Testament books according as they were recognized in the churches which had men gifted with "discerning of spirits," and so able to distinguish really inspired utterances, persons, and so their writings from spurious. Paul means, "All Scripture is God-inspired and therefore useful"; because we see no utility in any words or portion of it, it does not follow it is not God-inspired. It is useful, because God-inspired; not God-inspired, because useful. One reason for the article not being before the Greek, "Scripture," may be that, if it had, it might be supposed that it limited the sense to the hiera grammata, "Holy Scriptures" (2Ti 3:15) of the Old Testament, whereas here the assertion is more general: "all Scripture" (compare Greek, 2Pe 1:20). The translation, "all Scripture that is God-inspired is also useful," would imply that there is some Scripture which is not God-inspired. But this would exclude the appropriated sense of the word "Scripture"; and who would need to be told that "all divine Scripture is useful ('profitable')?" Heb 4:13 would, in Alford's view, have to be rendered, "All naked things are also open to the eyes of Him," &c.: so also 1Ti 4:4, which would be absurd [Tregelles, Remarks on the Prophetic Visions of the Book of Daniel]. Knapp well defines inspiration, "An extraordinary divine agency upon teachers while giving instruction, whether oral or written, by which they were taught how and what they should speak or write" (compare 2Sa 23:1; Ac 4:25; 2Pe 1:21). The inspiration gives the divine sanction to all the words of Scripture, though those words be the utterances of the individual writer, and only in special cases revealed directly by God (1Co 2:13). Inspiration is here predicated of the writings, "all Scripture," not of the persons. The question is not how God has done it; it is as to the word, not the men who wrote it. What we must believe is that He has done it, and that all the sacred writings are every where inspired, though not all alike matter of special revelation: and that even the very words are stamped with divine sanction, as Jesus used them (for example in the temptation and Joh 10:34, 35), for deciding all questions of doctrine and practice. There are degrees of revelation in Scripture, but not of inspiration. The sacred writers did not even always know the full significancy of their own God-inspired words (1Pe 1:10, 11, 12).

Cambridge Bible for Schools and Colleges

given by inspiration of God] One word in the original, a passive verbal, occurring only here in N.T., and meaning ‘filled with the breath of God’ so as to be ‘living oracles,’ Acts 7:38. Cf. 2 Peter 1:21, ‘holy men of God moved by the Holy Spirit.’ Compare also the following passage written about a.d. 95, at the same time as the last N.T. book, St John’s Gospel: ‘Search the Scriptures, the true Scriptures, the Scriptures of the Holy Ghost: ye know that there is nothing unrighteous, nothing counterfeit written in them.’ Clem. Rom. ad Cor. c. 45. There are two ways of taking this adjective, either as an attribute (so R.V.) or a predicate (so A.V.); either ‘Every Scripture, inasmuch as it is inspired of God, is also useful &c.’ or ‘Every Scripture is inspired and is profitable &c.’ In the latter case the second predicate comes in tamely. In the one case inspiration is assumed, in the other it is asserted.

The "SHADOW" laws *HEBREWS 10:1-17 of MOSES *DEUTERONOMY 21:24-26; EXODUS 24:7 for remission of sins are not God's eternal LAW (10 Commandments) that give us the knowledge of GOOD and EVIL; SIN and RIGHTEOUSNESS *ROMANS 3:20; ROMANS 7:7; 1 JOHN 3:4, that lead us to Christ that we might be forgiven through faith *GALATIANS 3:22-25. Accoding to God's Word in the new covenant if we knowingly continue to break any one of God's 10 commandments we stand guilty before God of sin *JAMES 2:10-11. Sin (breaking God's LAW) is the difference between the children of God and the children of the devil *1 JOHN 3:4-10. God's 4th commandment Sabbath is one of God's 10 commandments that give us the knowledge of what sin is when we break it and just like everyone of God's 10 commandments if we knowingly break anyone of them we stand guilty before God of sin *JAMES 2:10-11.
James spoke of the perfect law of liberty.

What do you think gives God rest? And did it happen back then when He made this earth?

Jesus said "My Father works hitherto and I work". So God will not rest until His house is finished being built.

We haven't come to the 7th day yet when God rests from all His work that He has made. Because God is still building His house: the new Jerusalem. And even Jesus said "I go to prepare a place for you".

I disagree. God understands that we’re not Jewish, and so does not expect us to be bound by Judaic law.

He is correct and what he has said is biblical so you should listen to what lostwanderingsoul said. God's 4th commandment is one of God's 10 commandments the give us the knowledge of what sin is when broken. The scriptures teach that if we sin after that we have been given a knowledge of the truth of God's Word and reject God's Word there we count the blood of the covenant an unholy thing doing despite to the Spirit of Grace and there remains no more sacrifice for sin but a fearful looking forward to of the judgement to come HEBREWS 10:26-39

Yes, but binding only to Jews, because that injunction is found in Judaic culture only. “God said” is “God said, according to Judaic religious authorities.” as for your first sentence, they’re patently wrong. Sunday is not shabbat. It has replaced Saturday as a day of observance for Christians who continue in the worship of God, but who are not Jews, but it is not a “replacement” of anything, nor is it “superseding” anything. Gentile Christians don’t observe Shabbat; We celebrate the Eucharist on the first day of the week, just as the apostles did.

As posted earlier, you seem to ignore these scriptures which disagree with your claims here. According to the scriptures both ISRAEL and a JEW in the new testament are all those who believe and follow God's Word. Gentile believers are now grafted in to God's ISRAEL *ROMANS 11:13-27.

As posted earlier through the new covenant scriptures, Gentile believers are now grafted in to God's ISRAEAL. If you are not a part of God's ISRAEAL accoding to the new covenant promise given in JEREMIAH 31:31-34 and repeated in the new covenant scriptures in HEBREWS 8:10-12 you have no part in the new covenant. Being a part of and grafted in to God's ISRAEAL makes gentile believers no longer gentiles but a part of God's ISRAEAL defined in the scriptures as all those who believe and follow Gods' Word and bound by faith to believe and follow what God says.

ROMANS 9:6-8 [6], FOR THEY ARE NOT ALL ISRAEL WHICH ARE OF ISRAEL,: [7], NEITHER, BECAUSE THEY ARE THE SEED OF ABRAHAM, ARE THEY ALL CHILDREN: but in Isaac shall thy seed be called <Christ> [8], That is, THEY WHICH ARE THE CHILDREN OF THE FLESH, THESE ARE NOT THE CHILDREN OF GOD: BUT THE CHILDREN OF THE PROMISE <those who believe> ARE COUNTED FOR THE SEED.

God's ISRAEL are all those in CHRIST that have been given a NEW HEART according to the NEW COVENANT promise...

ROMANS 2:28-29 [28], FOR HE IS NOT A JEW WHICH IS ONE OUTWARDLY; NEITHER IS THAT CIRCUMCISION, WHICH IS OUTWARDS IN THE FLESH: [29], BUT HE IS A JEW WHICH IS ONE INWARDLY; and CIRCUMCISION IS OF THE HEART, IN THE SPIRIT, AND NOT IN THE LETTER; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

Hope this helps :)

The important part of the equation is that Gentiles are not bound to observe Judaic law. As I said, other cultural codes include injunctions against murder. We don’t have to observe Judaic law in order to prohibit murder. However, “observing Shabbat is not included in codes outside the Judaic code.

This is where your confusion lies. The perfect law of liberty is the Spirit of God working in us. To submit to this Law is all you need to be saved.

But I digress, you missed my question ...

You've made some good observations. Yes love is the ultimate thing. But what is love without God? Isn't God love? So the real love we should have is the love of God flowing through us. And that is the Law of God or the Spirit of God.

The perfect law of liberty is the Spirit of God working in us. To submit to this Law is all you need to be saved. But I digress, you missed my question ...

It is interesting in the scriptures especially when reading MATTHEWS 5:17-21 is interesting especially in v20 it says For I say to you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven. This must have been an amazing thing to say at the time it was said by JESUS, because on the OUTSIDE the Scribes and Pharisees as JESUS taught appeared righteous to men. Outwardly blameless in regards to following God's 10 commandments but INWARDLY JESUS says they were full of SIN (breaking God's LAW) *MATTHEW 23:27-28. JESUS says; For I say unto you, that except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no wise enter into the kingdom of heaven *MATTHEW 5:20. The scripture in ISAIAH 42:21 was posted to show that JESUS came to teach the true meaning of God's LAW and that is it is to be applied to the ISIDE OUT not for OUT SIDE IN appearance to appear rightouess to men but inwardly full of SIN. God reads the HEART and KNOWS we are all sick with SIN *MATTHEW 15:19-20; MATTHEW 12:34-35; JEREMIAH 13:23; JEREMIAH 17:9-10; MATTHEW 15:19-20; JOHN 5:42 and in need of a Savior from SIN. Many do not know the meaning here MATTHEW 9:12-13.

This is leading to the NEW COVENANT PROMISE of a NEW HEART to LOVE *HEBREWS 8:10-12; JOHN 5:42; 1 JOHN 5:17-19; 1 JOHN 4:16; 1 JOHN 5:3; 1 JOHN 4:8.

We do not have the LOVE of GOD in us *JOHN 5:42. We need to be BORN OF GOD to LOVE *1 JOHN 4:7 and partake of the NEW COVENANT promise. This is why JESUS teaches in *JOHN 3:3-7 that UNLESS we are made CLEAN from the INSIDE OUT and BORN AGAIN to LOVE we cannot enter the KINGDOM of HEAVEN. This is what JESUS is talking about in MATTHEW 5:20 when discussing the Scribes and the Pharisees teaching the application of God's LAW from the INSIDE OUT. Whosoever is BORN of GOD to LOVE in the NEW COVENANT *HEBREWS 8:10-12 does not commit SIN *1 JOHN 3:9; ROMANS 13:8-10; JAMES 2:8-12; ROMANS 3:31; MATTHEW 22:36-40. This is the GOOD NEWS of the Gospels in the NEW COVENANT we have a SAVIOUR to save us from sin (not in sin) but we have to be made new to walk in God's Spirit *GALATIANS 5:16; ROMANS 8:1-4.

1 JOHN 3:3-10 is talking about all those who are BORN AGAIN to LOVE and it is LOVE that fulfills God's LAW in all those who BELIEVE and FOLLOW God's WORD in the NEW COVENANT *HEBREWS 8:10-12; ROMANS 13:8-10. This results in a people that keep God's LAW (10 commandments) from the INSIDE OUT. *REVELATION 14:12; REVELATION 22:14; 1 JOHN 2:3-4; 1 JOHN 3:3-10; ROMANS 13:8-10; ROMANS 3:31; HEBREWS 8:10-12.

MATTHEW 5:17-21 is not only teaching God's LAW (10 commandments) but JESUS is magnifying it and applying it to our very thoughts and feeling and saying even if we sin in our thoughts we sin against God and our fellow man. This is in fulfillment of the prophecy written of JESUS by ISAIAH

JESUS came to magnify the LAW from the INSIDE OUT quoting MATTHEW 5:17-32 (thoughts and feelings) in fulfillment of *ISAIAH 42:21. This is to show that unless our RIGHTOUESNESS EXCEEDS the RIGHTOUESNESS of the Scribes and Pharisees we can in no way enter into the KINGDOM of HEAVEN. Jesus is saying the problem runs deeper then outward observance to the 10 Commandments. EVIL begins in the HEART. BREAKING GOD's 10 COMMANDMENTS from the heart defile a man *MATTHEW 15:18-19. JESUS is saying we can be outwardly perfect and blameless like the Scribes and Pharisee but inwardly like dead mans bones *MATTHEW 23:27-28.

JESUS magnified the LAW to the INSIDE OUT. To show us that we are all sinners in need of a Saviour and that sin originates in the HEART (thoughts and feelings). That is why we have the NEW COVENANT promise to LOVE and need to be BORN AGAIN by Faith in God's WORD for salvation to be free from SIN (breaking any one of God's 10 commandments) *HEBREWS 8:10-12; 1 JOHN 3:3-10.

May God help you as you seek him through his WORD. Unless we are BORN AGAIN to LOVE we cannot enter into the KINGDOM of HEAVEN *JOHN 3:3-7. he that has ears let him hear.

God's Sheep hear his Voice (the Word)

Indeed brother 74:12 but that does not do away with Gods LAW (10 commandmetns) it fulfills them and establishes them in the life of those who through faith believe and follow Gods Word and walk in his Spirit *GALATIANS 5:16 and why JESUS says on these two great commandments of LOVE to God and love to man hang all the law and the prophets. Obedience to God's LAW is how our love to God and man is expressed when God gives us a new heart to love through his Spirit and why it is also written by Paul..

ROMANS 13:8-10
[8], Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loves another has fulfilled the law.
[9], For this, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not kill, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness, You shall not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
[10], Love works no ill to his neighbor: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

ROMANS 3:31
[31], Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yes, we establish the law.

ROMANS 8:1-4
[1], There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. [2], For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. [3], For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
[4], That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

and in JAMES here following the same theme as PAUL in ROMANS 13:8-10 and JESUS in MATTHEW 22:26-40.

JAMES 2:8-12
[8], If you fulfill the royal law according to the scripture, You shall love your neighbor as yourself, you do well: [9], But if you have respect to persons, you commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors. [10], For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. [11], For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if you commit no adultery, yet if you kill, you are become a transgressor of the law. [12], So speak you, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty

Love does not do away with God's LAW it establishes the law in the life of those who believe and follow God's Word *ROMANS 3:31

This includes God's 4th Commandment which is our duty of LOVE to God.

God bless

This is rebbinical nonsense. You are confused here between God's "eternal law" (10 commandments) that are our duty of love to God *DEUTERONOMY 6:5 and man *LEVITICUS 19:18 repeated in the new testament by JESUS in *MATTHEW 22:36-40; MATTHEW 19:16-19; MATTHEW 5:17-21 and Paul ROMANS 13:8-10, that give us the knowledge of what sin is when broken in the new covenant *ROMANS 3:20; ROMANS 7:7; 1 JOHN 3:4 with the the "SHADOW LAWS" for remission of sins *HEBREWS 10:1-17 written in the MOSAIC book of the old covenant *EXODUS 24:7

How many commandment do the scriptures say are in God's 10 commandments, made and spoken by God alone and written with the finger of God on two tables of stone? Was it 613, 9 or 10? Here is a hint *EXODUS 34:28; DEUTERONOMY 4:13 and DEUTERONOMY 10:4.

Your mixing up God's eternal law that gives us the knowledge of what sin is written and made by God alone with the MOSAIC BOOK of the old covenant *EXODUS 24:7 for "remission of sins" that points to JESUS and God's plan of salvation in the new.

Hope this helps :)
Jews don’t make this nonsensical distinction between “eternal” and “Mosaic.” And I still can’t figure out what you’re on about with this “shadow law” category you’ve managed to dream up. This is just overwrought.

Nonsense! Jews do not believe that JESUS is the Christ and the promised Messiah either or the new covenant scriptures. It does not make them right now does it? Read HEBREWS 7 HEWBREWS 8 HEBREWS 9 and HEWBREWS 10 if you want to learn about the Mosaic "Shadow laws" for remission of sin from the Mosaic book of the old covenant *EXODUS 24:7 that are fulfilled in JESUS and God's plan of salvation in the new covenant.

The only heresy according to the scriptures

Notice that it was those who did not believe and follow God's Word that crucified him

I believe I have proven my claims both biblically and historically here in this thread

You haven't applied an exegetical process which is letting the scriptures interpret the meaning you have applied an eisegesis process which is reading into the scriptures what the scriptures are not saying or teaching. This is demonstrated by you in trying to say REVELATION 1:10 is in reference to "SUNDAY" or the first day of the week being "THE LORDS DAY". You cannot show me anywhere from any scripture in the new or old testaments that "THE LORDS DAY" is in reference to "SUNDAY" or the first day of the week. Yet you have been shown through the scriptures alone "exegesis" that the scriptures alone teach that "THE LORDS DAY" is "THE SABBATH DAY" in MATTHEW 12:8; MARK 2:27-28 with "THE LORDS DAY" in the Greek meaning κυριακός From G2962; belonging to the Lord (Jehovah or Jesus): - Lord's or the LORD'S ownership of G2250 ἡμέρα the day

Your post here is an empty claim (strawman) that no one is talking about and does not address the content you are responding to.

As posted earlier, according to the scriptures both ISRAEL and a JEW in the new testament are all those who believe and follow God's Word. Gentile believers are now grafted in to God's ISRAEL *ROMANS 11:13-27.
This does not adequately address my point.

It makes them neither right nor wrong. It makes them Jews, who have a law code that applies to them.
