Nobel peace prize for Trump

Mock Turtle

Oh my, did I say that!

I think perhaps Nob-L would be more appropriate - being a nobhead but mainly a learner at it since he is so transparent.

I suppose the press hasn't figured out yet it's just part of his shtick to get the crowds roaring.

I'm not even sure who got the last one.
But I do remember when Obama got one. I thought that pretty stupid on the Nobel Committee's part. I lost a lot of respect for the prize when they gave it to someone, apparently because he's not white.

From the link in the op,Mr Abiy Amed

He came into office in April 2018 after months of anti-government protests forced his predecessor to resign.

Mr Abiy has introduced massive liberalising reforms to Ethiopia, shaking up what was a tightly controlled nation.

He freed thousands of opposition activists from jail and allowed exiled dissidents to return home. He has also allowed the media to operate freely and appointed women to prominent positions.

And in October last year, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize - the only head of state to win the prize since Mr Trump was elected in 2016.

Why did he win the Nobel Peace Prize?
The Norwegian Nobel Committee said Mr Abiy was honoured for his "decisive initiative to resolve the border conflict with neighbouring Eritrea".

The two countries fought a bitter border war from 1998-2000, which killed tens of thousands of people. Although a ceasefire was signed in 2000, the neighbours technically remained at war until July 2018, when Mr Abiy and Eritrea's President Isaias Afwerki signed a peace deal. So for two decades, the long border was closed, dividing families and making trade impossible.

The Nobel Committee said it hoped the peace agreement would help to bring about positive change to the citizens of Ethiopia and Eritrea.

Since the peace deal with Eritrea, Mr Abiy has also been involved in peace processes in other African countries, the committee said.

Now, that's someone who really deserves it!

You do realize that to "deserve" an award you actually have to earn it through accomlishment, right?
Actually, there is no such requirement.

From long ago....
Much to the left leaning voters' delight,
Obama received the Nobel Prize last night.
So why the award?
Just cuz he's adored?
Twas nothing he did, but something he might.

Btw, before the usual suspects see this as support for Trump....
I say he does not deserve it.
But I'd have given Obama a bronze medal for his
8 years of ignoring calls to attack Iran preemptively.

I suppose his supporters haven't figured out that it displays a lack self awareness and intelligence. Why would someone consciously do that unless they're knowingly trying to appeal to those who genuinely lack self awareness and intelligence?

How Trump openly displays his petty jealousy is childish and embarrassing. We need an adult back in the White House.

It is reminiscent of a child jumping up and down in a toy shop demanding a toy.

Exactly, well not appealing to the press but sure likes to jerk their chain.

How about a Nobel peace prize for President Trump
Speaking of which, I saw a brief MSNBC interview with Frank Rich, author of the New York Magazine, "Intelligencer", January 7th, 2019, article What Will Happen to the Trump Toadies?

I enjoyed the article because it resonates with my personal belief that, someday, that summabitz and his "toadies" will get the infamy they so desperately seek.

I think Obama was awarded the Nobel prize in anticipation of the type of presidency he represented all through his campaign, one that turned the 'axis of evil' statements to one of hope in diplomacy and peace. He was surprised and embarrassed and acknowledge it was premature. Of course Trump must have one.

"The press" is the world's window to him, so he's defecating upon his own image and the impression he makes. You would think someone with such a fragile ego would know better.

You have a different definition of fragile than I do. If it was that fragile, I suspect he'd have broken long ago. I suspect he has way too much ego.
