US citizens should stock up on water, medicines and non perishable goods. Preppers should prep extra. Figure out alternative means of communication should cell phones and internet stop working.

IMO, for any slight Iranian retaliation, we respond with something massively inappropriate and unfair.

Maybe, but it wouldn't be a bad thing. In general, Iran is the top **** disturbing nation and knocking them down a few pegs would improve security worldwide. Though, it might have quite the opposite effect -- I think Trump's point was, "Hey, you attack our people we'll find out who gave the order and we'll get you, no matter where you are." That's the message I'd have gotten if I was a member of Iranian leadership at this point and all their spouting off is just useless rhetoric at this point. They're trying to look tough, but they really took a big loss if you look at it mathematically for them.

Trump basically loses either way here -- if he doesn't act he looks like he's weak, if he does then the natives get all tweaked about the "attack". Iran has been attacking us and our allies constantly, so everything USA has been doing has basically been retaliation at this point. Trump doesn't want a Benghazi scenario and I think that weighs heavily on his decision making - and, personally I think we should go hard on Iran. They're trouble, have been trouble, and it won't stop until the leadership there gets flattened. The Iranian people, however, are decent folks just living in a rather oppressive regime. I'm for more action, so long as the civilian impact is kept to a minimum.

So I'm trying to tease apart what's going on by watching the major news networks, which seems a frustrating endeavor, but I think understanding might be muddled by perceiving all of this with the western bias they report with. I think the irate Iraqi populace probably rebelled because they perceived that we killed Iraqis, as they perceive that identity first in the people we undertook the airstrikes on, ahead of the u.s. reporting that identifies them foremostly as 'Iran backed militias.' So thus, perhaps there is a 'cultural difference' in perception that is misunderstood and overlooked by the west, as western / or should I say u.s. expectation is that Iraqi identity is to be publicly decried promptly by Iraqis with any slight diffusion in fealty. Thus, I suspect that these people are deeply misunderstood by us, and we should pull out of the whole region and leave it to its own unpredictable designs. Much better I say, if we were to alternatively send all our aid to helping out our ally Australia in their time of need, that would have been a far superior investment
