Everything that is not of Truthfulness, Compassion or benevolent can be seen as evil or wicked in this world. (in my understanding)
How does one fight it?
By becoming a person of truth, compassion, and benevolence.
To always do our best to speak the truth, and to have the compassion to everyone and everything in this human realm. and to give love and kindness (benevolence) to those who are in need.
Fighting evil with evil will never work, so fighting evil with compassion in the sense of seeing why the person has become wicked or evil, then offer a helping hand to get them to see that evil is not the right way to live. evil can only lead to more suffering

Evil is action from "lower states of existence" - pure selfishness acting from motivation of greed, fear, hate and so forth.

How does one fight it? Today's Facebook "Lights of Kabbalah" group had this way of expressing the answer:

"In love is found the secret of divine unity. It is love that unites the higher and the lower stages of existence, that raises the lower to the level of the higher - Where all become fused into one."

Read a book called "People of the Lie", by M. Scott Peck. It gives a pretty clear idea of evil.

evil or evol is tricky..it really depends on how one pronounces it...what’s more interesting is the backwards of how things were supposed to be...Live & Love...spelt backwards is?...

evil means A mask that is not YOU. A person with its Pride and NO heart. But There’s more to it than that.

In Bible good is like light and evil is lack of light, darkness, or emptiness. Darkness and emptiness can be won by turning light on. Evil is really nothing, it is only lack of good, it means there is no good.

You are the light of the world. A city located on a hill can't be hidden. Neither do you light a lamp, and put it under a measuring basket, but on a stand; and it shines to all who are in the house. Even so, let your light shine before men; that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
Matt. 5:14-16

I think evil is intentional cruelty; and as such, it must be a purely human creation.

Nature is ambivalent— it doesn’t do anything out of a sense of good or evil, right or wrong. Thus, while it may be cruel, it is not intentionally so, and therefore, not evil.

Neither do I believe evil is some force out there with separate existence, influencing our actions.

To fight it, we can try to diagnose it’s cause. Is it ignorance? Is it lack of empathy due to poor childhood training? Is the person lashing out due to some personal distress? Maybe we can fix those.

But some people may be unfixable. They may enjoy cruelty for its own sake. Creating a society in which such behavior is not rewarded is probably the best way to keep these at a minimum.

But clearly you would not show compassion towards someone that hurt you or someone you love, would you? What if you lie to save someones life, would that count as not being truthful?

So it would make you evil right?

To me that seems wrong and I would be surprised if you would show compassion in such case or choose not to lie to save someones life, assuming that they are innocent.

To show love and compassion to Even those who hurt me, is not difficult :) because it is them who suffer, not me. If they harm me they suffer because they get karma. When suffering we gain virtue, and out karma get less. So suffering is not wrong. I dont have enemies.

It's possible to be truthful and still save people. No need to Lie

Yes in some cases it will and i some it might not.

Lets imagine during WW2 and you and some of your neighbours are hiding Jews from the nazis. So one day a patrol comes knocking on your door and ask if you are hiding or know of any hidden Jews? In that case you would just give them all up, because telling the truth is good and lying is evil?

If i was in the situation where I helped out Jews to survive the evil of Hitler under WW2 I would of course not hide them at home. So if they asked if I hide any jews I would say, please search my home. To not say where I hide them (away from my home) but invite them into search would not be lying to them. So if they did not find any but still wanted to arrest someone, it would be me and nobody else who got arrested.

But if you read my scenario again... "if you are hiding or know of any hidden Jews?" So it wouldn't matter if they were not at your house :)

If they asked me if I know of jews I would say yes, but I do not tell where they are. Then I telling the truth, but do not reveal where they are.

You can go on an on and on with your questions Nimos. I do not find it correct to tell a lie, but to hide the truth by being silent does not count as a lie.

I know that one can go on, that is the exact issue im trying to illustrate when someone do something based on principal or extremes rather than reasoning.

The issue with defining evil as in such way as if you can just follow some rules, is because it won't work. None of what I wrote in the example is unrealistic and in fact much worse things could be added. Such as punishment of ones family trying to get someone to talk. All that would be on you due to a principal that lying is evil.

If one is lying to do good, clearly that ought to be the right decision. The question obviously become what we consider good or evil, which can be the tricky part and where people differ. But in the above example, unless one do not think that the Jews were innocent, it should be fairly obvious that they are being treated unfair and lying to help them is the right decision.

To find the answer you looking for when discussing, I think you would benefit from cultivating your self, so you could really understand what a cultivation path or teaching actually is. And I say that out of respect for you, not to mock you, because I have no need for mocking people.
Let's say we see this topic of evil in a different way.

I would be very interested in hearing it, if you think what im saying is wrong?

But you wouldn't agree that its the outcome and intention of an action that define whether we judge something or someone as being good or bad?

If we should have an intention it would be to always do the right thing. When looking at good or bad through the eyes of human beings and looking at right and wrong through a higher being like a God or a Buddha (I don't say I see things God or a Buddha do) The truth behind a situation is always seen different with human eyes then of a Gods or Buddhas eyes.
Only morality, virtue truthfulness within a person can tell if this person understands right from wrong.
To seek to do a wrong speech, act or thoughts is clearly a sign of someone who does not understand what right and wrong are.
For me, I struggle every day to become better to detect my own faults in speech, thoughts or action. I don't want to do wrongdoing. But yes it does happen, and the only way I can go above it is to detect when I do wrong and fix it to the next time the same situation occurs
