Please only respond or answer the poll if you intend to vote in the 2020 Democratic caucus or primary for your state.

If the election were today, which Democratic candidate would you vote for? Why?

Personally I'm leaning toward Warren. I voted for Bernie in 2016 and still like him on the issues but I find Warren to be more articulate and persuasive.

* Apologies that I couldn't include every candidate, I added as many choices as I was allowed. I included the candidates who have the highest RealClearPolitics polling averages.

I will have to pick the least bad candidate in the actual race

I haven't voted yet... I'm struggling with the classic conundrum: principles vs. elect-ability...

@Left Coast , what do you think is most important?

Good question! I think they're both important, but I also think the mainstream media narrative paints a false choice for progressives on that front. We are so polarized as a country that the only way to win is going to be attracting a) non-voters and b) Trump cross-over voters who voted for Obama in 08/12. The Joe Bidens and Amy Klobuchars of the world are not gonna do that as well as an inspiring, substantive candidate who represents real change. That's my take, anyway.

Meanwhile, the media embraces and promulgates the narrative that the ascendency of Sanders or Warren would simple guarantee a Trump victory.

Ok. Based on this... I'll do some research reading on each of the candidates, just to confirm I know what I'm talking about.

Then once I have voted, I'll let u know who I picked and why.

Ok @Left Coast ...

I voted... When I started composing a plan in mind on how to make this choice ,one word came to mind: Tactical.

I was hoping to take a Tactical approach to this choice. But ya know what... That's not a good word at all for how I'm making my choice. based on the current primary system and being a strong leftie by default on almost.every issue across the board... My friend... Nothing about my choice can be described as Tactical.

This is a hail Mary. Like.. my choice is me saying. "Please God... End the madness"

As I said in a previous thread, it seems like no matter what, the candidates change dramatically in their position and approach shortly after being sworn in. So what's a guy to do? How can I make a choice on principles?

So...

I'm voting for an outsider with no voting record who can appeal to the largest consistent voting block that I know of.

And that's the hail Mary.

I chose Male instead of Female. Why? I hate to say it, electability. What I saw from Hillary were desperate attempts to cobble together support from conservative men who probably wouldn't vote for her anyway. The result was a hard right Democratic campaign. That's not for me, no matter how beneficial a Female perspective would be as Commander in Chief. Had Hillary run a consistently progressive campaign, and lost, I would much less hesitant to choose a Female candidate at the top of the ticket. Just being honest.

Although, if we choose the right 2 candidates... We could have President Warren in 8 short years. Just say'n. But Warren isn't my choice for VP either, I am very very sad to say.

So, that's basis of my choice.. no one is going to represent me and my principles anyway. And even if they say they will during the campaign, I can't trust that anyone will maintain that once sworn in. We've already had a beautiful black family in the White House. Our Country needs a Women as Commander in Chief, but it's too soon after the failed Hillary campaign.

Who's left. Someone without a voting record to attack... Some one who represents a minority... Someone who will be respected by financial conservatives?

Bloomberg, baby. That's my Hail Mary

A little ironic since the man's Jewish.

For Veep, I'd love to put up Warren. Love to. She is brilliant, but a terrible speaker. Sorry. Going with Castro. The Anti Trump. People have already accepted the idea of a Black man as President. So visualizing Castro as President would be much much easier for the American public at large to get behind. Much easier than Warren for multiple reasons. And America is ready for Hispanic VP. Heck, I think America is ready for a Hispanic President.

Plus, the man also has no voting record to attack. That's huge.

My choice... Totally unrealistic.. which is..
Classic moi

Bloomberg/Castro

This isn't easy to choose. I've known Warren since 2003 when I happened onto her powerful insight into the whole middle class situation in our local library, when I picked up The Two Income Trap off the shelf (in the general stacks, in the middle of a long aisle, not at all highlighted), just from curiosity, knowing nothing of her.

Soon, I was recommending it to all my friends, and even to strangers.

That was many years before she got tapped to come help in Washington by the NY Senator. (Warren is also, favorably, an Oklahoma girl, and has our native good sense ;-) )

But, even though I recognize that big structural change would be smart, and Warren has good plans, I don't think it's possible to do much of that unless there are big majorities in Congress.

So, pragmatically I'd prefer to go with just good down to earth (without the ambitious things), as a practical side of things, and that points for me to someone like Amy Klobuchar -- because modesty is just superior to over confidence, therefore Klobuchar is superior to Mayor Pete, even though anyone likes his confidence....at first.... I just know the long term outcome of over confidence, see....

But, it seems questionable whether Americans can appreciate the value of modest, centrist, good sense.

Instead, the nation is sort of crazy right now.

So, therefore the older guy, Biden. He's better than the older guy Trump by far.

But....I voted Warren anyway, just to help send the signal, even though it's more pragmatic to go with Biden, despite flaws. (everyone does have flaws, even if you haven't figured them out yet....)

Oh, I left out an important factor for the VP pick: at least one of the 2 people on the ticket has to be able to appeal to key midwestern swing states.

Then why isn't James Webb in the running..

Maybe he's just too smart and doesn't want the job. If that's the case, I can't blame him.

What do you think about that? James Webb swoops in late in the race to save the day?

heh heh. I searched up "James Webb" and ended up with results in line with my interest in Astronomy. Did you know about the wonderful coming James Webb telescope. I'm really jazzed, and looking forward to it. So, anyway, I'd need a link to even find out about some other James Webb. :)

No Biden voters on the forum, huh?
hah hah Should I change my vote to Biden? Well, I like him, but....I honestly don't know whether I'd click on Biden or Warren, until I'm standing there in the booth. In the moment. I guess it's like that old saw "You can't step in the same river twice".
