Yeah so I'm SURE this thread has been done before but I was just curious. I always wonder why people have the user name they do.

Mine is CDRaider because my name is Christina D and my schools mascot are the Raiders (we used to have this ugly red headed viking as our mascot but now we are wolves.. sucky mascot huh)

So what about yours?

501---i dont know why, it stuck in my head from my first email address (has nothing to do with 501*c3 status organizations btw)...i distinctly remember passing aliquer store in alabama or rome GA with 501 on the top of its outside wall---i think that might be where it came from subconsciously

I've always wondered about usernames also. My name is Hema so that explains my username. You wouldn't believe what I used to think about your username. I always thought that you used to raid other people's CDs. Get it? --- CD Raider. For eg. "Oh wow! That's your CD collection! Let me see what you have! I'm going to borrow this one and this one!" Honest to God, that's what I thought. I think of the silliest things.:D

You know, I've always wondered about your screen name. You know, I can remember names better if someone explains them to me!

That's what I thought, too. I couldn't help but think "Poor Jeff, all he's probably got left to listen to is a Debarge LP and Bread's Greatest Hits on 8-track."

eudaimonia

Mine is eudaimonia, because I'm a Eudaimonist.

Eudaimonia is the Greek word for "happiness" or "flourishing". It is my most sacred word, and doubles as a well-wishing signoff.

eudaimonia,

Kay

Towards the Sun
Neosnoia is a word I made up for my website (blog) because the one I really wanted was taken. :D Neos means "new." Noia means "mind." It's a take on the word "metanoia," the Greek word commonly translated as repentance (or a change of mind) in the New Testament.

To me Neosnoia means starting over or reimagining.

Edit to add:

Obviously my username is no longer neosnoia. Kay is my real name. I decided it would be easier. :)

Acutally, the true reason I posted this thread was to clear that up!!!!!!

JMoum pointed that people probably read it that way so I wanted to let people know!

I use MdmSzdWhtGuy which is short for Medium Sized White Guy for any who have been wondering. I actually have a pretty good story behind why I chose this username. When I was in college I was a bouncer at several bars in the town where my college was located and all the guys I bounced with were older than me, and many of them had worked together for many years. One night they recounted the following story to me, which requires just a bit of setup to make sense.

There was this legendary figure whose real name was Jeff, but whom everyone called "Wolf". Now Wolf was a monster, he was 6 foot 5, 275 lbs, and so athletic even at that size, that he played shortstop for several semi-pro softball teams. He also happened to be black, which only becomes important at the end of this story. He got paid to play by team sponsors (local businesses, and such). Wolf was not a bouncer, but was friends with many of the bouncers and usually hung out, getting free drinks from our bar, because he was a bit of a local celebrity, and more importantly, he was quick to help out the bouncers if they got in a tough situation. [He was still doing this when I bounced, and I saw him do some outrageous things, such as pick a guy up and slam him UPWARDS into a ceiling fan, think about how hard it would be to lift a grown man overhead and you get an idea of how strong this guy was] Well 2 or 3 years before I met these guys the following occurred, and I heard enough accounts of this from several different people who were there to not discount the accuracy.

One night at the Club NV in the big town of Ada, OK, the OU wrestling team decided to head down south a bit to have some drinks. At some point in the evening, a few of the wrestlers got drunk and started some trouble. Now wrestlers are very tough individuals, and when the bouncers told them they had to leave, and the wrestlers refused to do so, trouble began.

The fight began in the bar, and spilled out into the gravel parking lot. Things got really rough, and the bouncers found themselves outnumbered and outmanned by the OU wrestling team. Wolf jumps in as he commonly did and was helping out the bouncers and soon the situation was under control and the wrestling team decided it was time to go, except for one particular wrestler, who by all accounts was about 5 foot 9 or 10 and around 185 lbs.

Our hero (the wrestler) apparently had not had enough of fighting, and was walking along beside Wolf, who was headed back into the bar, and hero apparently was running his mouth. Without even turning to face him, Wolf, midstride elbowed the wrestler in the side of the head, dropping him to the ground unconscious. Wolf kept walking, right into the bar, and grabbed a beer.

Several people of course saw this and were appropriately amazed. Someone walked up to Wolf and asked him if he was concerned in any way about going up against a collegiate wrestler . . . to which my good friend Mike G. (a bartender) jumped in and replied . . . "Wolf ain't concerned about a medium sized white guy."

I thought it was such a great story and such a great quote that I decided to adopt MdmSzdWhtGuy as a screen name, thinking it quite unique. Added to that, is the fact that I, personally am a medium sized white guy, and there you have it.

B.
