Hello everyone and thanks to all those who have commented on my previous three posts I have just barely been here two days and it appears that I am searching for "purpose"
When I initially signed up for this website I did not realize this was where it was going to go so,.....
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF LIFE? This ought to be interesting LOL

It's a hard question. If I had to answer, I'd answer:

"The purpose of life is discovery."

I'll probably have a more detailed answer some day, but that's just what I'm, well... discovering.

Depends what sort of answer you want

A philosophical one? Not for me to answer, i don't do philosophy

A reality one? Nothing much. Get born, pass on your genes, die. There is a lot of incidental stuff between being born and dying but it's just fluff and really, you don't need to pass on your genes but it's the only way to continue life. I see it this way, ask the universe what is the purpose of your life, take the universe's reply as your answer.

The best one? 42, it's the answer to life, the universe and everything.

Fulfilment. Not happiness, please note.

The question then is what would be fulfilment for you. Something, or some state, that you look back at with a degree of satisfaction, when you are on your deathbed, maybe?

From my view as an atheist, each individual is free to choose their own purpose in life. Your "PURPOSE" is in your hands. Choose wisely, I suppose.

As a taoist, I would say my purpose is to be myself. To fulfill, as best I am able, the 'tao of me'. Through honesty, sincerity, spontaneity, authenticity, etc.,.

Let me think about that a little bit. It may take a little longer then one might think I'm going to make a note of it now

I suppose it depends on what you mean by "purpose"......is that a question about your individual purpose for being here or is it a more general question about the purpose of life for humankind? There are two answers that could be offered here....which one were you after?

I guess I did not think about the question enough, I suppose I would be looking for the purpose for my life if there is such a thing, I'm not sure I could really do anything about mankind though. Thanks for the comment looking forward to your answer

Difficult to say if you mean creation ... why was anything made? The purpose of life is love in my opinion. God made us to love. Not that this is all we are here for but the ultimate purpose of creation. Because God is fulfilled in His love. Which God calls rest. And so God wanted rest through love. This is why He made angels and humans.

If people want their own lives to be fulfilling then they should love and that will fulfill them because they are made in God's image and so this will bring rest for their souls if they love. But they need to understand true love and for that they need to know God. Because love belongs to God and without God we are a dry and thirsty land.

And many people cannot love because they need healing first. God knows all that.

It's for the test, similar to the way we go to school, we learn and study,
those who refuse to learn and to obey the rules will fail at the end.

Hey, I like this answer love is a very interesting word to say the least, this ties into my "free will?" Post.
1st John 5
2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.

3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. Thank you for your answer.

I think there are many people who wonder about their purpose in life...but from reading the Bible, I get the distinct impression that the collective purpose of humankind is to act as caretakers and custodians of this planet and the creatures who share it.....and we are doing a terrible job! Are we accountable? I believe we are.

Individually we can fit into that collective purpose by being the kind of humans who will do as the Creator instructed so that life can be the joyful experience he intended it to be....not the nightmare it became when humans abused their free will and started imposing their will on others. That is why power corrupts people....we were never supposed to tell others what to do...to wield authority over them.....we are designed to have God tell us what to do, like a loving parent instructs his children.....and therein lies the reason why we can never get our act together....no one it seems is interested in having God tell them anything. It would be a very different world if we could learn to love, half as well as we can hate. :(

ETA.....Are you a believer? You just answered that...

If God is with you, who can be against you? Your greatest enemy becomes yourself.

Failure is a teacher....learn from it and its never wasted.

Very informative answer but the verdict is still out on the Free Will question not everyone agrees with you on the Free Will thing all you have to do is look at my "free will?" post if you want to know what I mean LOL thanks for your comment.as far as being a believer I have no idea that's what I'm trying to figure out now, I have a few posts simultaneously going trying to connect the dots, it's becoming a far greater task than I anticipated. If you desire to look at the other ones and comment on those all the information I can get will be helpful.

I'm kind of curious about this asking the universe thing, is the number 42 significant in some way and how do you get your answer from the universe?
