Star Wars plot problem

In the prequels, it is prophecied that Anakin Skywalker is to bring the Force back into balance. The Jedis of the Jedi council thought it would be in their time, but the actual time would have been when he offed the Emperor, fulfilling the prophecy.

But since the Emperor didn't die, as revealed in the upcoming movie, it creates a serious plot problem IF Anakin as a Force Ghost in the latest movie, doesn't save the day.

But if the emperor dies what will next Christmases (and the subsequent) star wars be all about.

Watching Star Wars at the cinema has become a family Christmas tradition. What will we do if there is no protagonist?

”A prophecy that misread could have been.”

“Bringing balance to the force” doesn’t necessarily require Palpatine to have been actually killed in ROTJ or doesn’t prevent him returning in some way, shape or form. That’s why prophecies are fuzzy in the first place (both real and fictional ones ;) ). There are apparently story lines in the what are now the Legends books involving multiple clones of Palpatine which a lot of people have been looking to in predicting the plots of upcoming films. I don’t think it’s yet clear in what context he will appear as it’s only been lightly (and intentionally I’m sure) teased in trailers so far and it wouldn’t be the first time they’ve pulled a fast one if it turns out to be something nobody expected. It’s certainly something they could perfectly well manage without shattering the core concept as you suggest.

Alternatively, they could just choose to shatter the whole concept.

Plot problems??!!! I can't believe what you are saying!! With the last many Star wars movies, how you can assume their would be any plot problems coming our way. It is as solid as a card house during an earthquake :)

I would be surprised if the audience is not leaving the cinema either laughing or crying.

That is because the people writing the new trilogy are not Lucas nor fans of Star Wars

Yeah, "from a certain point of view." As Obi Wan put it, "You're going to find that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view." There are no plot holes "from a certain point of view."

The way I took that prophecy was that "bringing balance to the Force" didn't necessarily mean getting rid of the Sith. "Balance" implies that you could go too far one way or the other. I assumed that "balance" was restored by slaughtering the Jedi.

Remember in the prequels when they said that there were always 2 Sith lords: the master and the apprentice? Well, what did we end up with by the time Anakin was done? The same thing on the side of the Jedi: a master (Yoda) and an apprentice (Luke).

In Jedi, as Yoda dies, he introduces a new apprentice, Leia, and gives Luke a path towards being the master.

In the sequels, they kinda back off of the idea of Leia being Luke's apprentice (though they didn't in the older Star Wars novels which apparently are now officially not canon), but they still had Rey and Luke.

So that's my take on it: "balance" as a master and an apprentice on each side.

Are you familiar with the story told in The Clone Wars pertaining to Mortis?
