Do you use trash compactors in kitchen?

Hah. My parents had one. It never really made any sense. As I recall it took special bags, and then you couldn't put waste material in there like fresh foods and stuff because it would stink and rot. It ended up just being a flat surface to put crap on. Later in their life, we just got rid of it for them.

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
Me I just get a piece of wood and jump up and down until all the trash is compacted.

A compactor would take up room.
And those I've seen would require modifying cabinetry to fit one in.

What we do...
- Burnable (in the wood stove for heat)
- Trash to the dump
- Recycle (paper, plastic, glass, bottle caps)
- Compost
- Reusable containers
- Set out for the wildlife (racoons, possums, skunks)

Each condominium has specific trash cans for organic, plastic, paper, glass...
For organic ...people can have compost bins instead, if they have a garden...and condominiums here usually have big green areas inside.

Recycle sensibly.

@Revoltingest gets it right

Rinse out cans and juice bottles before recycling, the organic residue is not good for recycling.

I use one all the time, a specialized design for aluminum cans. It's a four inch section of 2x4.
I partially collapse the can by hand, put it on the counter, put the block over it and smash down with my fist. Voila! Flat as a pancake and into the recycle box.

Convenient, works great, never breaks down.

Trash compactors are virtually unknown here in Brazil.

I am not sure that I ever even saw one.

They are better than the trash cans in some ways but like any other thing have their own disadvantages so it's hard to say which of them is totally the best.
For example comparing with the trash cans the trash compactors have such pros as:
- they are more convenient in using because more trash fits them and there's no need for making often trips to a garbage can
- they're helpful for saving money because of this trash's compression
- the trash compactors are very simple in installing and using, there are also many types of them pickadvisor.org/best-trash-compactors to choose

But with them you'll still need to buy special bags regularly, also because of trash's long keeping these compactors often smell badly. And not all types of trash can be placed in them, for example jars, bottles and glass items can easily damage them.

I think whey were a good idea at the time but with the now efficient trash collection they're no longer of benefit.
