COL 2:16 And The Sabbath - Are You Being Told The Truth?

We don't have a Sabbath.
Next Sabbaths are for the Israelites, you are not one and no body is.
Being an Israelite requires that your ancestors were from Israel and became slaves.

Mind you, I love to take a bath but not a Sabbath [no pun intended]

Worshiping God on a Sunday, does not make you worship the Sun
Having a naughty though like that would make your Saturday where you spend your Sabbath
also from paganism

Saturday is the day of the week between Friday and Sunday. The Romans named Saturday Sāturni diēs ("Saturn's Day") no later than the 2nd century for the planet Saturn, which controlled the first hour of that day, according to Vettius Valens.[1][2] The day's name was introduced into West Germanic languages and is recorded in the Low German languages such as Middle Low German sater(s)dach, Middle Dutch saterdag (Modern Dutch zaterdag) and Old English Sætern(es)dæġ and Sæterdæġ.[3] The day was also referred to as "Sæternes dæġe" in an Old English translation of Bede's Ecclesiastical History of the English People.[4] In Old English, Saturday was also known as sunnanæfen ("sun" + "eve" cf. dialectal German Sonnabend).[5]

So how did the first Church worship God?
Do they have church activities during Sundays?
Isn't Sunday, the first day of the week?

1 Corinthians 16:2 New International Version (NIV)
On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with your income, saving it up, so that when I come no collections will have to be made.

in another translation of the Bible, we can read this:

1 Corinthians 16:2 Expanded Bible (EXB)

On the first day of every week [C Sunday], each one of you should put aside money ·as you have been blessed [or what you can afford; L whatever one prospers]. Save it up so you will not have to collect money after I come.

please take note that this is not just a couple of Sundays but every Sunday.

The fundamental FACT in all this is that the Apostolic Church treated Sunday
as the New Sabbath day. This statement is strictly historical.

We don't have a Sabbath.
Next Sabbaths are for the Israelites, you are not one and no body is.

You are confused brother. These are your words and your words are not Gods Word than we have God's Word that says that Gods ISRAEL in the new covenant are all those who believe and follow God's Word.

Under both the old and new covenant, God's "ISRAEL" is only a name given by God to his people *Genesis 32:28. Gods ISRAEL in the new covenant are all those who believe and follow Gods' Word. ISREAL and JEWS and Gentiles believers in the new covenant are all a part of Gods ISRAEL and this is who the NEW covenant applies to.

HEBREWS 8:10-12 "For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, said the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people" and again "For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God *ROMANS 2:28-29.

Gentiles believers are now grafted in to God's ISRAEL *Romans 11:13-27. So as you can see here Gods' ISRAEL today are all those who believe and follow God's Word and God's 4th commandment Sabbath is still a "perpetual convenant as shown in Exodus 31:16-17.

There is no such thing as Jew or Greek anymore. All who believe and follow God's Word are one in Christ. Israel in the OLD COVENANT were those from the seed of Abraham. In the NEW COVENANT, if you are in Christ then you are Abrahams seed and heirs according to the promise...

EPHESIANS 2:11-13 [11], Why remember, that you being in TIME PAST Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;

[12], That AT THAT TIME [in the Past] YOU WERE WITHOUT CHRIST, BEING ALIENS FROM THE COMMONWEALTH OF ISRAEL, STRANGERS FROM THE COVENANT OF PROMISE, HAVING NO HOPE, AND WITHOUT GOD IN THE WORLD: [13], BUT NOW IN CHRIST JESUS, YOU WHO WERE FAR OFF ARE MADE NEAR BY THE BLOOD OF CHRIST.

GALATIANS 3:28-29 [28], THERE IS NEITHER JEW NOR GREEK, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: FOR YOU ALL ONE IN CHRIST JESUS AND IF YOU BE CHRISTS, THEN YOU ARE ABRAHAM'S SEED FOR YOU ARE ALL ONE IN CHRIST JESUS [29], and IF YOU BE CHRISTS, THEN ARE YOU ABRAHAM'S SEED, AND HEIRS ACCORDING TO THE PROMISE.

God's true ISRAEL in the NEW COVENANT are not by name only but all those in Christ. Those of the FLESH (sinful human nature) are not Abrahams seed but those who BELIEVE and FOLLOW God in Christ are God's ISRAEL...

ROMANS 9:6-8 [6], FOR THEY ARE NOT ALL ISRAEL WHICH ARE OF ISRAEL,: [7], NEITHER, BECAUSE THEY ARE THE SEED OF ABRAHAM, ARE THEY ALL CHILDREN: but in Isaac shall thy seed be called <Christ> [8], That is, THEY WHICH ARE THE CHILDREN OF THE FLESH, THESE ARE NOT THE CHILDREN OF GOD: BUT THE CHILDREN OF THE PROMISE <those who believe> ARE COUNTED FOR THE SEED.

God's ISRAEL are all those in CHRIST that have been given a NEW HEART according to the NEW COVENANT promise...

ROMANS 2:28-29 [28], FOR HE IS NOT A JEW WHICH IS ONE OUTWARDLY; NEITHER IS THAT CIRCUMCISION, WHICH IS OUTWARDS IN THE FLESH: [29], BUT HE IS A JEW WHICH IS ONE INWARDLY; and CIRCUMCISION IS OF THE HEART, IN THE SPIRIT, AND NOT IN THE LETTER; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

In the NEW COVENANT all those in Christ are are God's ISRAEL...

COLOSSIANS 3:11 [11], WHERE THERE IS NEITHER JEW NOR GREEK circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: BUT CHRIST IS ALL IN ALL.

ROMANS 10:11-13 [11], For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. [12], FOR THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN JEW OR GREEK: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. [13], FOR WHOSOEVER SHALL CALL UPON THE NAME OF THE LORD SHALL BE SAVED.

The New Covenant is for God's Israel...

EZEKIEL 36:26-27 [26], A NEW HEART WILL I GIVE YOU, AND A NEW SPIRIT WILL I PUT WITHIN YOU; AND I WILL TAKE AWAY THE STONY HEART OUT OF YOUR FLESH, AND GIVE YOU A HEART OF FLESH. [27], AND I WILL PUT MY SPIRIT WITHIN YOU, AND CAUSE YOU TO WALK IN MY STATUTES AND YOU SHALL KEEP MY JUDGEMENTS AND DO THEM.

and again...

JEREMIAH 31:33-34 [33], BUT THIS IS THE COVENANT THAT I WILL MAKE WITH THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL; After those days, says the LORD, I WILL PUT MY LAW IN THEIR INWARD PARTS,AND WRITE IT IN THEIR HEARTS; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. [34], And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, says the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

Paul proclaims it here...

HEBREWS 8:10-12 [10], BUT THIS IS THE COVENANT THAT I WILL MAKE WITH THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL; After those days, says the LORD, I WILL PUT MY LAW IN THEIR INWARD PARTS, AND WRITE IT IN THEIR HEARTS; and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: [11], And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest. [12], For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

The NEW COVENANT is for GOD'S ISRAEL which represent those who BELIEVE and FOLLOW God’s WORD.

If you are not part of GOD'S ISRAEL then you are not a part of the NEW COVENANT (Hebrews 8:10-12).

............

God's ISRAEL is the name given by God to all those who BELIEVE and FOLLOW his WORD. GENTILES are now grafted in. If you are not a part of the God's ISRAEL then you have no part in the NEW COVENANT.

Now let's look at the meaning of the name that God gave to his people. The name "ISRAEL" ישׂראל; yiśrâ'êl means; "HE WILL RULE WITH GOD" God gave this name to his people and it means that they shall rule with God. Take a look at the following scriptures from REVELATION speaking of God's people.

REVELATION 1:5-6
[5], And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. To him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, [6], And HAS MADE US KINGS AND PRIESTS TO GOD AND HIS FATHER; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

and again...

REVELATION 5:10 And HAVE MADE US TO OUR GOD KINGS AND PRIESTS; AND WE SHALL REIGN ON THE EARTH.

Peter speaking of God's people says it this way...

1 PETER 2:9-10
[9], But you [God's people] are a chosen generation, A ROYAL PRIESTHOOD [KINGS AND PRIESTS], an holy nation, a peculiar people; that you should show forth the praises of him who has called you out of darkness into his marvelous light; [10], Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

Sound familar? "ISRAEL" ישׂראל; yiśrâ'êl means; "HE WILL RULE WITH GOD" WHY?

JESUS is our great HIGH PRIEST ministering on our behalf in the HEVENLY SANCTUARY *HEBREWS 4:14. JESUS is the KING of KINGS *REVELATIONS 17:14; 19:16

HE WILL RULE WITH GOD WHICH IS THE MEANING OF "ISRAEL" is the name given to all those who BELIEVE and FOLLOW God's WORD because JESUS will make them to rule with him as PRIESTS and KINGS.

Notice also in REVELATION 7:3-8 just before the judgements of God are poured out on the world God's people are sealed with God's Spirit and 144,000 come out of the 12 tribes of ISRAEL

REVELATION 7:3-8 [3], Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God on their foreheads. [4], And I heard the number of them who were sealed: and there were sealed a hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of ISRAEL. [5], Of the tribe of JUDAH were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of REUBEN were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of GAD were sealed twelve thousand. [6], Of the tribe of ASHER were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Naphtali were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of MANESSAH were sealed twelve thousand. [7], Of the tribe of SIMEONwere sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of LEVI were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Issachar were sealed twelve thousand. [8], Of the tribe of ZEBULON were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of JOSEPH were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of BENJAMIN were sealed twelve thousand.

It seems you are mixing up the the shadow laws from the Mosaic book of the old covenant with God's eternal laws (10 commandments) in the new.

There is no Saturday or Sunday in the bible.
So how did the first Church worship God? Do they have church activities during Sundays? Isn't Sunday, the first day of the week?
They worshipped God everyday of the week *ACTS 2:47-48 and kept the Sabbath as a holy day of rest according to God's 4th commandment *Acts 13:14; 13:27; 13:44; 15:21; 16:13; 17:2; 18:4; Rev 1:10

Your confused here dear brother. God's people, JESUS and all the apostles historically and according to God's Word (not mine) always kept the Sabbath unbroken to this very day. This is historical as well as biblical. Sunday worship on the other hand is not biblical and is only a man-made tradition and teaching that breaks the commandments of God that JESUS warns us about in *MATTHEW 15:3-9

With respect, 3rdAngel, you are throwing a lot of boiler plate text at
people. Much of this IS biblical, but when it's thrown at people like
this it comes across as Boiler Plate.

So why do we have so many accounts from historians
stating that ALL the Christian group (good, the bad and
the ugly) held Sunday as their Sabbath?

And again, why didn't Jesus stop this?

Please define "not biblical" and "man-made"

And take into consideration that Christ's example
is biblical, and the foundation Apostles were men.

Much of history is written in regards to Sunday and supplied by the Roman Catholic Church who worked with Constantine to introduce Sunday into the Church that has it's origin from Sun worship and paganism of the Roman empire. Also, the Roman empire was persecuting both JEWs and the early Church forcing many christians to meet on Sabbath and Sunday. I have a lot of historical quotes if your interested let me know and I will track them down.

JESUS did not need to stop anyone as everyone in his day and after his death were keeping God's 4th commandment Sabbath according to the scriptures.

JESUS kept the Sabbath and it was his custom to do so *Luke 4:16 as well as all the apostles and disciples of JESUS *Acts 13:14; 13:27; 13:44; 15:21; 16:13; 17:2; 18:4; Rev 1:10. For an example of a man-made tradition that breaks the commandments of God read Matthew 15:3-9. Not biblical means it is not in the bible and man-made is in reference to teachings and traditions that are made by men and not from God.

Your confused brother. What violent reactions are you talking about? If I have made no violent reactions why are you pretending that I have? Now in this post your only repeating yourself and this post and scripture has already been addressed and answered. JESUS never broke any commandment. If he did he could never be our perfect sacrifice.

giphy.gif

He broke the non existent Sabbath
Because God ended the Sabbath a long time ago.
Even before Jesus was born

586–520 BCE

Lamentations 2:5-6 Good News Translation (GNT)
Like an enemy, the Lord has destroyed Israel;
He has left her forts and palaces in ruins.
He has brought on the people of Judah unending sorrow.

He smashed to pieces the Temple where we worshiped him;
He has put an end to holy days and Sabbaths.
King and priest alike have felt the force of his anger.

giphy.gif

Now if you really want to do celebrate the no longer existing Sabbath
go ahead, if it really makes you happy but you should know the consequences

Colossians 2:16 Easy-to-Read Version (ERV)
So don’t let anyone make rules for you about eating and drinking or about Jewish customs (festivals, New Moon celebrations, or Sabbath days). These rules may seem to be wise as part of a made-up religion in which people pretend to be humble and punish their bodies. But they don’t help people stop doing the evil that the sinful self wants to do.

What else do you celebrate?
upload_2019-11-4_16-36-56.jpeg

Now that is really pagan and not even a command from the Bible to celebrate.

No need to be upset brother and posting silly pictures and making your text big does not make what you say true. It only shows you need to make distractions that lead away from God's Word and the scriptures provided in the topic of conversation. All you have posted here are your own words that are not God's Word in response to God's Word that are not my words so your argument dear friend is with God not me. Ignoring God's Word does not make it dissappear.

If in your view JESUS broke the Sabbath than we are all lost because JESUS is not our perfect sacrifice because according to you JESUS is a sinner. This is simply not biblical and is blasphemy in my view calling JESUS a sinner.

Luckily we have God's Word which shows us that In the days of Jesus the religious teachers of the day had placed so many man made traditions around Sabbath keeping that it had become a burden to the people. It was though in their eyes MANKIND was made for the Sabbath. It was so bad in fact that these religious teachers were constantly looking for ways to accuse Jesus of breaking the Sabbath (Matt 12:1-2; 10; Mark 3:2; Luke 6:1-2).

Jesus rebuked these religious teachers by saying that the Sabbath was made for MAN and NOT MAN for the SABBATH (Mark 2:27 and that he was the CREATOR or LORD of the Sabbath (Mark 2:28) and it was LAWFUL to do GOOD on the SABBATH (Matthew 12:12)

Jesus did God's WORK on the Sabbath and so should we everyday but God's WORK is not the work we are commanded NOT to do on God's Sabbath for it is lawful to do GOOD on the Sabbath.

Have you not read what David did, when he was hungry, and they that were with him; How he entered into the house of God, and did eat the showbread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them who were with him, but only for the priests?

Or have you not read in the law, how that on the sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless? Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath days, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? How much then is a man better than a sheep? Therefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.

GOD'S 4TH COMMANDMENT

Exodus 20:8-11 8, Remember the SABBATH DAY, to KEEP IT HOLY. <Why?> Because God made it Holy for mankind and commands us to keep it as a Holy day) 9, Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work:
10, But the SEVENTH DAY IS THE SABBATH of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: <WHY> 11, For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the SEVENTH DAY: wherefore the LORD BLESSED THE SABBATH, and HALLOWED IT.

Doing GOD'S WORK is NOT what the 4th Commandment is talking about please read it.

God's 4th Commandments says we are NOT to do OUR OWN WORK. Yep NO secular business or paid work, no unnecessary domestic work, no buying and selling, shopping. This can be done on the other days of the week. God has made the SEVENTH DAY a HOLY DAY and we are to REST in HIM by FAITH in the LORD of the SABBATH. This is the 4th Commandment and one of the God's 10.

.......................

SIN is the breaking of God's Commandments (James 2:9-11; Romans 7:7; 1 John 3:4) Those who CONTINUE in UNREPENTANT SIN will NOT enter into the KINGDOM of HEAVEN.
.......................

God's 4th commandment is one of the ten (Exodus 20:8-11) If we knowingly break it when God asks us not to we stand guilty before God of committing sin (James 2:8-12). If we do not seek him in repentance and forgiveness we are in danger of the Judgement (Hebrews 10:26-27)

Sunday worship is a tradition and teaching of man that has led many to break the commandments of God. Jesus says that if we follow the traditions of man that break the commandments of God we are not following God (Matthew 15:3-9)

There is not one scripture in all of God's Word that says that God's 4th Commandment is now ABOLISHED and we are now commanded to KEEP Sunday as a Holy day.

Who should we follow the teachings and traditions of men or the Word of God? Who should we believe the Words of men or the Word of God?

In times of ignorance God winks at but now ,<when a KNOWLEDGE of the truth has come> calls all men everywhere to REPENT (FOLLOW) (Acts 17:30-31).

Did you wish to talk about the OP here which is about Colossians 2:16-17?

Your just repeating yourself brother without reading and addressing the OP here. If you disagree with the OP please I suggest you read post # 6; posts # 7; posts # 8; posts # 9 and posts # 10 linked from the OP as they prove that Colossians 2:11-17 is not talking about God's 10 Commandments but the shadow laws from the Mosaic book of the old covenant that pointed to JESUS and God's plan of salvation in the new covenant and feast days.

According to God's Word in the new covenant God's LAW (10 commandments) gives us the knowledge of what sin is when broken *Romans 3:20 and if we break any one of them we stand guilty before God of sin *James 2:10-11. No one is under the law if they have repented and been forgiven of their sins. We are only "under the law" if we are guilty before God of breaking the law *Romans 3:19-20.

Please read the OP before commenting so you can have something to contribute. If you disagree with the linked posts above show us why you disagree?

Surface readers are like sifting sand going no where and blown about with every wind of doctrine because they have no root in the Word of God. Ignoring God's Word does not make it dissappear as it becomes our judge come judgment day *John 12:47-48

May God bless you as you seek him through his Word

Actually... there is some debate whether Jesus "kept the Sabbath" because He did
works on that day. Moses said NO work was to be done on that day.
Secondly, Jesus DID NOT RESPECT the Commandments - at least twice we read
Him quoting the law concerning the Ten Commandments, and then adding, "But I
say."
And Jesus gave His example by gathering with His people on the Sunday AFTER
the crucifixion.
Q1 - IS CHRIST'S EXAMPLE A COMMANDMENT?

and

The Apostles, Paul and brother of Jesus observed the Sunday.
Q2 - WERE THESE MEN LED BY CHRIST AND THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH?

ZZzz ... posted from an earlier post from the scriptures..

How can JESUS break the SABBATH which is God's 4th commandment of the 10 Commandments that give is a knowledge of what sin is. Are you calling JESUS a sinner?

If JESUS broke the Sabbath we are all lost because JESUS could not be our perfect sacrifice to free us from the condemnation of sin (Death) *Romans 6:23

In the days of Jesus the religious teachers of the day had placed so many man made traditions around Sabbath keeping that it had become a burden to the people. It was though in their eyes MANKIND was made for the Sabbath.

You still want to discuss the no longer existing Sabbath, fine with me.
So how do you Sabbath lovers observe Sabbath?
What are the things you do and do not do?

Do you work on Sabbath days?
Supposing you are a nurse in the hospital and you are required to work on Saturdays
Should you work or not?

JESUS never broke God's 4th commandment he taught us how to keep it. If JESUS broke God's LAW he could not be our perfect sacrifice for sin.

Jesus and his apostles were all Jewish; there were no Christians until after Christ's death.....as Jews, they were under the Mosaic Law. Gentiles were not added until later and the new covenant was in force. It was never a bad thing to observe the Law.....but Gentiles were not under any obligation to observe the Sabbath nor to get circumcised. The Law of Love applied to them. The Mosaic Law was finished, replaced by the New Covenant. (Jeremiah 31:31-34)

Can you give me a single scripture where Christians are commanded to observe a Sabbath?
The day is irrelevant if there is no command to observe it in the first place. Christendom's adoption of Sunday was nothing more than a disguised honor to the sun god.....much like a lot of other adoptions that had no place in Christian worship.

Sunday worship is a tradition and teaching of man that has led many to break the commandments of God. Jesus says that if we follow the traditions of man that break the commandments of God we are not following God (Matthew 15:3-9)

So you are telling us
You should not worship God on a SUNDAY because it is a sin!

Is that a fact?

Nope. According to God's Word (not mine) breaking any one of God's 10 commandments is sin *JAMES 2:10-11; 1 JOHN 3:4; ROMANS 7:7 and all those who continue in known unrepentant sin will not enter the Kingdom of Heaven because they reject the gift of God's dear son *ROMANS 6:23 and count the blood of the covenant an unholy thing *HEBREWS 10:26-39. In times of ignorance when someone does not know any better God does not hold us accountable to sin but when he gives us a knowledge of the truth can calls on us to believe and follow his Word *ACTS 17:30-31.

These are just your words denying God's. Let me know when you have scripture to share to prove your claims. If you have no scripture for your tradition why do you not believe God's Word? Only God's Word is true and we should believe and follow it over the teachings and traditions of men that break the commandments of God *MATTHEW 15:3-9. Ignoring God's Word does not make it dissappear. Only God's Word is true and we should believe and follow it *ACTS 5:29; ROMANS 3:4
